LAKEVIEW NEWS We are an important part of the community support that Lakeview receives. A few weeks ago, one of their freezers went into complete "meltdown" and a lot of food was lost. Churches and other organizations answered their prayers with a new freezer and food was replaced. On a recent visit, I enjoyed their new butterfly garden, complete with a birdbath, that was donated. We were able to donate a total of $90.00 in Ingles gift cards for June and July as a result of our door prizes proceeds. Keep up the good work. Please support the silent auction to be held at the quilt show, as part of the proceeds will be donated to the folks at Lakeview Assisted Living. Thank you, Judy Morris

PROGRAM NOTES Are you ready to party? Our August meeting is our annual ice cream social. You won’t want to miss this fun time with all your quilting friends. It is a great time to get to know some of our newer members or learn more about members that you don’t see often. Also, this is the month we honor one of our own who has done a great deal to help our guild grow and prosper. Come ready to have fun! No program, although you don’t want to forget your quilt show entries! August 30 is the date for our September meeting. Yes, I know that isn’t September but with the Labor Day holiday our meeting would be too late to answer quilt show questions so we have moved it to Monday, August 30. Be sure to mark that date on your calendar.

FROM PAULA CROOK, TREASURER Our 2010 Festival of Quilts is approaching very quickly. I would like to request that all receipts be turned in to me as soon as possible after a purchase is made. I plan to clear up all quilt show costs by the end of September. When you turn in a receipt, please include your name and the budget category that is to be used for the expense. Thank you for your cooperation in this manner.

QUILT SHOW BOOKLET SPONSOR ADS

To help offset the cost of printing the Quilt Show Booklet we are offering all Lake and Mountain Guild members the opportunity to become Show Sponsors. There are two levels available ~ Silver Thimble at $5. or Gold Thimble at $10. These will be one line, name only ads on one page of the Show Booklet. Please consider becoming a Sponsor! Contact Barbara Connolly ~ [email protected] or 886-9031 ~ for more information or to sign up. Forms can be found on the Guild Website or at the August 2nd meeting. That will be the deadline to sign up. Thank you.

FROM THE COMFORT QUILT COMMITTEE Don’t miss out on your chance to have your name proudly displayed on a quilt block on our Comfort Quilt Friendship Quilt Poster at the 2010 Festival of Quilts Show. The August 30th meeting will be the last chance to get your quilt square on the poster before our show. So far 31 of the 54 people we hope to get on our poster, have donated a comfort quilt this year. We thank everyone who donated a comfort quilt in July. After the July meeting we were up to 75 quilts for 2010! The following quilters donated a comfort quilt in July: Lucille Kriegel – 1, Denise Webb – 2, Dian Yanessa – 1, Lois Olson – 1, Barb Hornburg – 2, Lynn Brill – 1, Connie Bennett – 1, Sue Wareham – 1, Sandy Hawkins – 1, Nieta Cleveland – 2, Peg Mowrey – 1. After having been on the comfort quilt committee for the past 4 years we are ready for a change. Now is your opportunity to volunteer for this rewarding position at LMQG. Verla has agreed to stay on as an advisory member next year, and Katherine and Nieta are willing to mentor as well for the first couple of months in 2011. Please consider volunteering to help with comfort quilts next year. Various duties include: motivational ideas to encourage member participation, delivering quilts to the various charities (perhaps the most rewarding part), writing up the monthly comfort quilt news for the LMQG newsletter, storing and bringing donated fabric/purchased batting, printing thank-you cards, and overseeing the Christmas Stocking Project (Verla is willing to continue helping with this also.) We have all enjoyed being the comfort quilt committee and thank everyone for their wonderful support these last few years. When you have your comfort quilt ready, bring it to the guild meeting. Look for our comfort quilt table at the meeting, stop by and sign the sheet for any comfort quilts you are donating, show them off to the members, then drop the quilts back off at the table. We will get them to the people who need them. The best size for a finished comfort quilt is the width of fabric or approximately 42 inches wide and at least that long, preferably about 50 inches long. We gladly accept fabric donations; however please only donate pieces that are at least the size of a fat quarter. Contact Nieta Cleveland if you need batting. We also have labels available for you to put on your comfort quilts. If you have need of comfort quilt fabric, you can always contact Nieta Cleveland and make arrangements to get some. Comfort Quilt Committee: Katherine Allen, Verla Warther, Lucille Kriegel, and Nieta Cleveland.
