Pattern Basics We encourage breaking the rules, but here are a few things you might want to keep in mind: • Please read through all the instructions carefully before beginning a project. Every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of this pattern. • All instructions use a ¼" seam allowance unless otherwise stated. • All fabrics are sewn right sides together, unless otherwise stated. • Need help with any of the techniques used? Directions Assembling the blocks: 1. Appliqué the ladybug body and wings on the A squares using the appliqué method of your choice. Machine stitch or hand embroider the antennae as desired. Make thirteen. A

Make 13

5. Take the remaining C/B/C and F/E/F units and sew them together to make the borders which complete the checked pattern in the quilt. Follow the diagram to make the sides, top and bottom. The top and bottom border strips will have an extra C on the end. Press seams in opposite directions from the quilt center. Side Borders - Make 2 Top and Bottom Borders - Make 2

6. Sew the sides to the quilt. Press. Sew the top and bottom to the quilt. Press.

2. Sew a B to each side of the As. Press in the direction of the arrows. Sew a C on each end of the remaining Bs. Press. Make twenty-six C/B/C units; sew to the top and bottom of the As. Press. Make thirteen blocks. Square-up to 8-1/2" square. C B Make 13

3. Sew an E to each side of a D. Press. Sew an F to each end of the remaining Es. Press. Make twenty-six F/E/F units; sew to the top and bottom of the Ds. Press. Make twelve. Square-up to 8-1/2" square. F E

7. Mark where the 1/4" seams intersect on each outer corner of the quilt.

D Make 12

4. Sew the blocks into rows as shown. Press the seams in opposite directions from row-to-row so seams can "nest" when rows are joined. Sew rows together. Press.

8. Identify the middle of the each of the four Gs and the four sides of the quilt. Pin G to the sides of the quilt top starting from the middle. G will hang off both ends. Sew a G to a side of the quilt beginning with the marked 1/4" and ending at the marked 1/4". Sew both side borders this way.

12. Start sewing at the intersection of the seams. You can either stitch the 45° angle along the pressed fold line by machine on the WS or hand stitch from the front (RS) assuring precise line-up of the border design stripes. Sew all four corners in this manner. Trim the layers on the WS leaving a 1/4" seam allowance.

13. Lay backing RS down, batting and quilt top RS up. Baste. Quilt as desired. 10. Open borders and have top and bottom G ends lay on top. Press seams to Gs.

11. Fold G ends (ones laying on top) under 45° to miter the corner. Press well. Pin carefully to match the stripes in the border print.

14. Sew on the binding using a 1/4" seam allowance.
