LA CAÑADA FLINTRIDGE COORDINATING COUNCIL HISTORY AND PURPOSE The La Cañada Flintridge Coordinating Council is a nonprofit organization that serves as the coordinating body for the many local volunteer and service organizations. The activities of the Council are intended to assist other local organizations in planning dates for regular meetings, as well as special events. The Council also serves as a clearinghouse to the public for information regarding local organizations, including meeting times and places and identification of the leadership of each of the local organizations. The Council publishes an annual Directory of Community Organizations including officers, regular meeting schedules, and services provided. The Directory also includes a listing of the major events planned by this community's organizations for the upcoming year. In addition, the Council coordinates the Community Calendar of Events listing of regular meetings and major events. The Council conducts special Town Hall informational meetings to introduce to the community candidates for the La Cañada Unified School District Governing Board and the La Cañada Flintridge City Council. In addition, the Town Hall meetings include information regarding other measures on the ballot, such as propositions, that affect the citizens of our community. In 1965, the Council awarded the first Community Action Awards to organizations and individuals who had provided outstanding service to our community. In 1969, the Awards were renamed the Les Tupper Community Service Awards, in honor of Mr. Leslie (Les) C. Tupper, a La Cañada Flintridge resident and well-known Los Angeles attorney. "Mr. La Cañada" was an active member of the school board and later served as its chairman. He was also president of the Council before La Cañada Flintridge became a city and at a time when the Council was the only body that served as a link between the various local organizations.
