Worked on a multiple of 11 plus 2 sts.

Note: Read ALL these instructions thoroughly BEFORE starting to knit. There may be sections where there are two shapings to work at the same time (such as necklines or waist shaping).

BODY: 1. Cast on 101 sts on size 4 mm needles and use Stitch pattern charts. Do NOT join the round; this cardigan will be worked flat. Mark the side 'seams' at 25 sts from each end, leaving 51 sts in the middle (back of cardigan). 2. Work even until piece measures 15,0 cms (45 rows). 3. Divide for armhole. Transfer two front sections to holders, then join new yarn for the back. From this point on, work on back section only, with right side facing to start. 4. Continue until armhole measures 10,7 cms (32 rows).

5. Shape neck. Work both sides at the same time. Work 17 sts. Slip the next 17 sts to a holder. With a second ball of yarn, work remaining 17 sts. Dec 1 st at neck edge every row twice, until 15 sts remain. 6. Work even until armhole measures 12,0 cms (36 rows). Cast off 15 shoulder sts loosely.

FRONT: Cardigan right side worked first.

1. Transfer right body front sts from holder to needle, with right side facing. Join yarn. Work even until armhole measures 6,7 cms (19 rows). 2. Shape neck. Wrong side of work facing. Work 20 sts. Slip last 5 sts to holder. Next row. Dec 1 st at neck edge every row 5 times, until 15 sts remain. 3. Work even until armhole measures 12,0 cms (36 rows). Cast off 15 shoulder sts loosely. 4. Left cardigan front. Work as for right side, reversing shapings.

SLEEVES: 1. Cast on 35 sts on size 4 needles ( or circular needle ) and use Stitch pattern charts. 2. Inc 1 st at each end of every 11th row 4 times to 43 sts (44 rows total). 3. Work even until sleeve measures 18,0 cms (54 rows). 4. Cast off loosely.

SHOULDER SEAMS: 1. Sew fronts to back along shoulder seams.

ROUND (CREW) FRONT NECK SINGLE BAND COLLAR: --- by hand on size 4 mm needles. 1. With right side of work facing, pick up and work 5 sts from right front neck holder, 10 sts from right front neck edge, 2 sts from right back neck edge, 17 sts from back neck holder, 2 sts from left back neck edge, 10 sts from left front neck edge and 5 sts from left front neck holder. Total 51 sts. 2. Work 2,0 cms (8 rows) in Reversed Tricotst. ( RS; purl, WS; knit ) ribbing. 3. Cast off loosely.

BUTTON BAND: 1. Start with left front for girls. Using size 4 mm needles pick up and knit 51 sts (approximately 3 sts for each 4 rows along cardigan front) between bottom of hem and top of collar band. 2. Work in Reversed Tricotst. ( RS; purl, WS; knit ), ribbing for 7 rows. Cast off loosely. 3. Mark positions for 6 buttons, the first one 0,8 cms above the band bottom, the last one 0,8 cms below the band top. The rest should be evenly spaced between these two, approximately 4,4 cms apart.

BUTTONHOLE BAND: 1. Work buttonhole band as for button band, make buttonholes on the positions of the buttons.

2. Sew buttons at marked positions on the button band, being careful to align buttons with buttonholes.

FINISHING: 1. Sew sleeve top to armhole, easing to fit. Sew sleeve seams. Sew any remaining seams. 2. Darn/weave/sew in all loose ends.
