Why Did Krav Maga come to Ireland I am often asked  how I ended up dedicating the last 10 years of my teaching Krav Maga life to developing self defence course that has now trained over 13.000 people

The answer is very simple , I felt I had to! Toward the end of 2000 ,After many years of studying martial arts, achieving a black belt in Kenpo Karate and studying many other martial arts, I found myself walking through Dublin  late one Friday evening. I had just returned from living in New york, watching the people by going and seeing a number drunken rowdy groups it struck my that  I was more nervous in Dublin than I had ever been in New York ! ..and this is coming is a stocky ex-rugby player, with a scar, black belt and years of experience working in bars in Dublin while at school and college@ While my nervousness passed I became acutely ware of the risk of violence that existed and I had to ask myself if I felt my martial arts training would help me. At this point I  had to be honest and say no, I had been out of hard core training for a couple of years and had little or no confidence that I would be able to remember or apply any of the hundreds of techniques I had spent years learning. It was in that moment that the I finally realized the martial arts  style approach to the self defence problem was fundamentally flawed. Right there I decided that I was going to find a way to teach everyday normal people how to protect themselves. I had recently read “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People” by Steven Covey. In this book He details seven habits  he distilled from interviewing hundreds of

successful  people from many different walks of life, he examined entrepreneurs, adventured, sports heroes and many others One of the habits he identified was to ‘begin with the end in mind‘   This means that you should be very clear about what it is you want to achieve before you start on the path. With this in mind, I spent some time thinking  about the problem I wanted to solve . And I defined it as this:-You somehow knew you were going to be attacked, It as going to happen in 2 days, there was nothing  you could do to avoid the attack. You contacted me as a Self Defence intructor  and asked me to train  you for the next 2 days so that you could survive and escape the assault. What would I Teach you, I knew it martial arts wouldn’t work, I needed to find something else, something that work in the real world and could be learned fast.

Krav Maga was Brought to Ireland in 2001 by Patrick Cumiskey so So that every day normal people could learn how to protect themselves

How Fast Can You Learn Krav Maga There are many aspects of Krav Maga that make it unique, but one of the most important things that makes it stand out is that it’s main focus is on teaching you how to protect and defend yourself as quickly and efficiently as possible. So how is Krav Maga different from martial arts? When you take karate classes you learn the specific techniques of the type of karate you are studying. This takes the form of practicing and perfecting your karate form over a timeframe of years as you progress up through the system. First you start off with your white belt, then you advance to yellow belt, all the way up through the system-you get the idea. With karate and the other martial arts, you are learning an art form, and this takes years. Tactical Self Defence However, that is not what happens with Krav Maga. In fact Krav Maga is not even considered to be a Martial Art. it is considered to be a tactical self-defence system, It was designed to be taught quickly because those doing the teaching and those who needed the training had very little time to learn! In other words, you are learning how to build practical, usable self-defence skills that you can use in your every-day life. One of the key reasons Krav Maga can be learned so fast it is based on the natural movements of the body. You learn to work with your instinctive reactions that have evolved over thousands of years of evolution. Building on these ingrained instinctive patterns means these skills become instinctive once you are in a situation where you need them. You are moving in your own defence before you realise it.

How you train is also important - you need to learn to react and make decisions quickly. To get the best results from your training you need to take a structured course which has a defined start and end date. This ensures that there is a clear focus on getting you effective quickly, it also means you progress along a structured path with your course mates. Krav Maga Ireland’s course are structured as either a 12 Week, training once a week for 90 minutes or as weekend, training 9:30-5:30 Saturday and Sundat This proven approach has been used to teach over 13.0000 people including high level security agencies, specials forces, elite Gardai, miltary unites and most importantly every day normal decent people who simply want know they can protect themselves and their families.
