Descendants of Jacob Klock Part 1 Generation No. 1 1. JACOB 2 KLOCK (HENDRICK 1 ) was born October 08, 1708 in Stone Arabia, New York, and died May 09, 1798 in Montgomery Co., New York. He married (1) ELIZABETH BELLINGER, daughter of FREDRICK BELLINGER and ANNA FOX. She was born Bet. 1712 1715, and died Bef. 1766. He married (2) CATHARINA NELLIS July 27, 1781, daughter of CHRISTIAN NELLIS and BARVALIS KLOCK. She was born December 23, 1723, and died August 20, 1805 in Montgomery Co., New York. Notes for JACOB KLOCK: Jacob Klock was an officer in the French and Indian War where he was taken prisoner. He was a Captain in the Second Battalion Albany County Militia during that war. Albany and Montgomery County were same county at that time. He was also in the Revolutionary War. He commanded the 2nd. Reg't., Tyron County, New York State Militia. He was known as Col. Jacob Klock. Col. Jacob Klock also signed the Mohawk Valley Declaration of Independence. He was married to Catharina Nellis Helmer, daughter of Christian and Barbara ( Klock ) Helmer. He was also married to Elizabeth Bellinger. From " Compendium of Early Mohawk Valley Families, Penrose Vol. 1" Klock, Jacob, ( of Palatine ) , will dated 5/8/1798; probated 6/13/1798. Legatees: wife, Catharine; granddaughter, Eva ( wife of Christian Klock; their mother is named Anna), Anna ( wife of Rev. Henry Dyeslin ); son, Adam; grandsons, John, Peter and Henry March. (Catharine NELLIS was born on 23 Dec 172318 Jan 1724 in , , New York, died on 20 Aug 1805 in St. Johnsville, Montgomery, New York and was buried in St. Johnsville, Montgomery, New York.)SZT Although it is generally accepted that Jacob Klock was the son of Hendrick Klock, no one really knows his exact date of birth or if he was the son of Hendrick Klock. The following is from Jeptha Simms. He places the colonel as the son of old George Klock, not the brother. It is difficult to locate all the prominent citizens of this vicinity in their own little castles. Next to Fort Hess seems to have been Fort Klock, a palisaded stone house then owned and occupied by John Klock, father of Adam Klock, which house is yet standing over a mile to the eastward of St. Johnsville. At a southeast upper window of this house, the widow of Peter Haner was standing on the day of Johnson's invasion, when a bullet, near spent, struck her head, and she sat down stunned but not seriously hurt. I am glad that this old landmark, which is a very ancient building, is allowed to remain. The dwelling of Old George Klock, as called to distinguish him from his son, I infer, stood not far above John Klock's and was perhaps best known as Fort Klock. He had two sons, Col. Jacob and George, and a daughter Margaret, who married Col. Ebenezer Coxand after his death at Oriskany, married Hunter Quackenbush. Col. Klock, who married a daughter of Christian Nellis, then a widow Helmer, lived where Jonas Snell now lives, threefourths of a mile below the village. The place has never been out of the Klock family, and Mrs. Snell was a Klock. On the land of one of the Klocks' was erected at an early period, a Reformed Dutch** Church, a small edifice built of wood. It has neither steeple or bell, but had the sounding board of the times, over its one man pulpit. This church had some seats to accommodate Indian hearers. Domine Gros occasionally preached in this church before the Revolution. Rev. Henry Dyslin, reputed a good scholar, was one of its last pastors. George Bauder, a Stone Arabia boy of the revolution, assured the writer that the first Sabbath after his marriage in Kingsbush, he took his wife to this church. She was born Bef. May 04, 1754 in Fonda, Montgomery, New York, and died January 10, 1844 in Manheim, Herkimer, New York. Notes for ADAM KLOCK: Information from Klock/Clock Gen. New York in the Revolution pg. 401 gives Adam's death date as 10121823 aged 72Y1M20D. The Fonda Library, Amsterdam Chapter D A R pg. 17 gives buriels of Adam and Catharine as Dutch Churchyard, Manheim, New York. From the Sherman O. Klock Genealogy: Catherine Seeber is said by Simms the historian to have been the daughter of William Seeber, a German tradsman who keep a store before the French war to the west and not far from the present village of Fort Plain. Besides Catherine there were Magdalene, William Conrad, Audolph, and Jacob. William Seeber and his sons Audolph and Jacob were engaged at the battle of Oriskany under the banner of Herkimer, and it is quite likley that the remaining two sons were there also. Audolph was slain on the battle field, and William his father, and his brother Jacob were mortally wounded on that occasion. William Seeber the father, came to this country with a wife taken in the fatherland, and upon her death (which probably occured soon after their arrival here) he married a Miss. Walrath, and by her had three sons and two daughters namely: Henry John Adam Marilles (who married Peter Young) and Mary Elizabeth who never married. After that death of William Sr. his widow married John Rolfe who lived at the Boght, then a small Dutch settlement near Cohoes. Magdalene Seeber, the sister of Catherine, married Fredrick Bell, who turned tory, fled to Canada, and coming down with the British force under Sir. John Johnson, and died some two days later at his home where his wife, a woman of remarkable energy, had brought him. He left two small children, Betsey who afterward married George Fox, and Christina who became later teh wife of George Diefendorf.
Adam Klock, like his brotherinlaw Bell, too turned tory, and he too took part in the Johnson battle, but unlike the latter was less forunate in getting himself killed off there. In an affidavit sworn to by one Nicholas Herkimer, he with nine others, including the deponent, and one Jacob I. Klock, left the valley on Sunday evening July 1, 178, setting their faces toward Canada, which place they reached in eleven days. Some two months later a portion of this party returned to the valley to perpetrate a dastardly deed and were soundly trounced for their efforts. Adam Klock does not appear to have been with this party, but Jacob I. Klock's name is mentioned in that part of the affadivit which tells of this affray. Who was this Jacob I. Klock: There was but one Jacob I. Klock that I know of, and he was the son of Johannes. But I do not infer that he was the man in question: there may have been another Jacob I. Adam Klock retruned to his family after the war, and tradition says that he was not received with marked favor by his relations who had took an active and patriotic part in the struggle for liberty. In the "Normander Papers" mentioned int he sketch of Col. Jacob Klock, was one written by Jacob G. Klock, and signed by Adam, giving his father the power of attorney, which was excuted while he was in the British service. Just what this was done for I do not know. If he was the owner of any landed property at that time I have failed to discover it. There never was any property of any Klock confisicated, during, or after the war. While his father did not disinherit him, he did leave the farm on the everted to the remaining grandchildren. That was in the year 1998, and from that date all taces of him, his wife and the son Jacob, have been in vain so far as the writer is concerned, although Adam (No. 1097) who is said, but not with out question, to have married Catherine Staring, has been viewed with suspicion as being this lost Adam.

4. JACOB 3 KLOCK, JR. (JACOB 2 , HENDRICK 1 ) was born April 11, 1750. He married ANNA HESS September 27, 1770 in Stone Arabia Reformed Church, Albany Co., New York. She was born March 25, 1749. Notes for JACOB KLOCK, JR.: Date of Marriage from Compendium of Early Mohawk Valley Families, Penrose Vol. 1. Notes from the Sherman O. Klock Genealogy Little is known of this man. It has been infered by some that he to was a tory, but has never been proven. He may have been the Jacob I. mentioned in the sketch of his brother Adam, but if so then that is the only instance in which the initial " I " was used as a middle letter in his name. Else where it is noted as Jacob Klock Jr. or plain Jacob Klock, never with any middle initial. That he was dead in 1798 is proven by the will of his father who made ample provision for his widow Anna in his last will. His manner of death, and burial place is unknown. Anna Hess, his widow, never married again, and lived with her daughter Eva until her death. Many tales have been told to the writer by the Descendants of Anna, concerning the part she played in the Revolutionmoulding bullets for use by the militiadriving a fatted bovine into the nearby corn field and butchering the animal to keep it from being driven away by the enemyif there is any toryism in that family, and I beleive there was none, it surely had not affected her at that time. I stated above that she spent her last days with her daughter Eva; that is an error, for in looking over my notes I find that it was her daughter Anna instead. I have been unable to find the date of her death, and where she is buried. She no doubt lies in an unmarked grave like many other heric men and women of that day. Notes for JOHN HENRY DYSLIN: John Dysslin was a minister of the German Reformed Church at Palatine, St. Johnsville New York. He preached and wrote the church records in German. In 1829 the church aligned with the Dutch Reformed demonimation because it was easier to get ministers from this demonimation.Johann Dysslyn was the minister at the Palatine Church. Name was also spelled Dysslin. SOK Genealogy: The Rev. John Henry Dyslin was a Swiss and was born in Burgdorf, Canton Berne. of the nobility. On the voyage to America he was shipwrecked at sea, and vowing to God that if his live was spared he would devote the remainder of it to his Maker, he returned to his native country and studied for the ministry. On being ordained he returned to this country and became the first settled pastor at the present St. Johnsville, N.Y. where he began his work in the old Klock Church in 1788. 7. EVA 4 KLOCK (JACOB 3 , JACOB 2 , HENDRICK 1 ) was born August 03, 1780, and died May 13, 1861. She married CHRISTIAN KLOCK October 23, 1797, son of JACOB KLOCK and HANNAH NELLIS. He was born March 29, 1776, and died April 07, 1853. Notes for CHRISTIAN KLOCK: From the Sherman O. Klock Genealogy: Christian Klock, after the death of Col. Jacob Klock in 1798, lived on the homestead farm of the Colonel who had willed it tho Christian's wife Eva, and who came into possesion of it upon her grand father death. The old dwelling place of the Colonel, which had witnessed many stirring scenes during the Revolution, and which had escaped the torch of the incendiaries who ran mad thoughtout the valley, was torn down about the year 1830, and a new house erected in its place; this building is still standing (1932) and is owned by the widow of the late Sheldon Klock, who bought the house and lot form the Snell estate. I might add that Sheldon Klock, was not closely related to Christian Klock, or his wife Eve, and did not inherit this property as has been said. Sheldon Klock married a Powell for his first wife, and the widow of John F. Klock for this second. The maiden name of his second wife was Lillian Richards, the daughter of Warren Richards. Near this home, and perhaps on the very spot, Hendrick Klock the pioneer settler built his dwelling of logs not later than 1723, and near there he spent his remaining days. Near it onece stood the old Klock Church, and close by it the old Klock burial ground, where now lie many of name with unmarked graves. This Klock Church probably
was built about 1750, and by Colonel Jacob Klock. Christian Klock served in the war of 1812 as Leiut. of the 1st. Regt. N.Y.S. militia. Children of EVA KLOCK and CHRISTIAN KLOCK are: i. Notes for MARY ADLE: The following is a clipping from a Utica paper: July 28, 1904 "Little Falls, July 28, Aunt Mary Adle Davis celebrated her 95th birthday yesterday afternoon at her home 602 East Monroe street, by entertaining the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, together with a few visiting members of the D.A.R., and Mrs. Roberts of Utica, Vice State Regent of the order. She was presented a handsome bread and milk bowl and a fine silver spoon, on which was inscribed name, date, ect. The home looked very pretty in a trimming of American Flags. Five generations were present to recieve the guests, Mrs. Davis, Peter Davis, Mrs. F.H. Baum, Mrs. Kezzy Perkins, Miss Merie Perkins. It may be that in the course of time the names of the husbands of these two women have been confused. We are inclined to believe that the record of marriage as given by descendents in correct. There were Snyders who lived in the vicinity of the birth place of Sally Klock, and it is not unreasonable to beleeive she married some one of them. We find that on Nov. 13, 1764, one Ludwig Snyder, married Margretha Klock, and we also find that Ludwig and Margretha had a son Jacob born Dec. 7, 1766. The birth date of Sally Klock, is found in the Stone Arabia Reformed church records, Vol. 1, page 71. The marriage of Ludwig Snyder and Margretha Klock, is recorded in the marriage records of the same church, Vol. 1, page 175. SOK Sally Klock may have married Abraham Snyder. The 1860 Census for Theresa, Jefferson, New York lists Sally Klock (45) living with her parents, Joseph and Clarissa. If she did marry it was after 1860. Listed next on the census is her brother, Joseph and his family.

Landmarks of Steuben County Part III, Family Sketches Klock, James N., was born in the town of Manheim, Herkimer county, N.Y., March 2, 1840. Peter A. Klock, his father, came to Steuben county in 1866, and settled at Coss' Corners. He married Catherine, daughter of Peter Woolever, and was identified throught life as a farmer, and died in 1874, aged seventyone years. James N. was educated in the common schools. He has made a study of the weather and its changes since 1859, and since 1890 he has been giving special attention to the science of ElectroPlanetaryMeteorology. The basis of his theory is in the position of the inferior and superior planets relatively to the earth and its satellite and the sun, of which there are over 260 different positions taken into consideration. At the present time he is able to make an accurate forecast of the coming changes of the weather. In 1860 he married Irena, daughter of John Strough, by whom he had four children; John P., N. Julian, Melvin L., and Mrs. Olive C. Conine.
