KINGS BROADCAST NETWORK In 1993, the Sacramento Kings made the decision to bring all of the club’s broadcast activities inhouse, forming what is currently known as the Kings Broadcasting Network. In addition to producing all of their own radio and television broadcasts, the Kings retain all advertising revenue from the broadcasts. The club’s broadcast network also produces all pre- and postgame radio talk shows and one additional weekly radio show. KMAX (UPN Ch. 31) is back for its 15th season as the Kings’ flagship television station, and will broadcast 25 contests during the 2002-03 NBA regular season. The Kings Television Network also includes KREN-TV (Ch. 27) in Reno and KRVU-TV (Channel 2) serving Chico and Redding. In addition to the club’s over-the-air broadcast schedule, the Kings’ cable television network, FOX Sports Net, will broadcast 25 games over a number of cable systems throughout Northern California. KHTK Sports 1140 AM is in its ninth season as the club’s flagship radio station. Joining the 50,000 watt powerhouse on the ever-expanding Kings Radio Network will be stations in Auburn (KAHI-950 AM), Red Bluff (KBLF-1490 AM), Fresno (KCBL-1340 AM), Marysville (KMYC-1410 AM), Grass Valley (KNCO830 AM), Redding (KNRO-1670 AM), and Merced (KTIQ-1660 AM). Kings home games also air in Spanish on KRCX (99.9 FM) in Sacramento. Grant Napear, Jerry Reynolds, and Jim Kozimor, will call the Kings’ action on KMAX (UPN 31) and FOX Sports Net. The longtime radio voice of the Kings, Gary Gerould, will handle play-by-play duties on KHTK (1140 AM), which will broadcast all of the Kings’ games this season. Most notably, Gerould has been the pit road reporter for the ABC Sports broadcast team covering the Championship Auto Racing Team series. A speech and physical education graduate of Anderson (Indiana) University, Gerould headed west to Chico, California in 1963 where he became the news and sports director at KHSL Radio. In 1965, he moved to Sacramento and joined the sports department at KCRA-TV, where he worked for 12 years. During that span he also was the play-by-play announcer for Sacramento State football and basketball. In 1977, he formed Gary Gerould Enterprises and since then has freelanced as a public relations consultant, commercial spokesman, and motor sports writer and broadcaster.
