University of Massachusetts Medical Center, 55 Lake Avenue North, Worcester, MA 01655. Department of Hematology and Oncology. Protocol Office Manager. Responsibilities included the management of 64 protocols and 308 patients through NSABP, CALGB, and numerous pharmaceutical companies’ protocols. Verify patient’s eligibility per protocol’s inclusion and exclusion criteria and provide study and follow- up reports (inclusive of adverse drug reaction, toxicity, and response, etc.) Worked with the hospital’s IRB to initiate new protocols and served as the liaison between the department’s attending, residents, fellows and patients.

University of Massachusetts Medical Center, 55 Lake Avenue North, Worcester, MA 01655. Department of General Medicine/Primary Care, Research Analyst/Data Management Coordinator. Represented the department at symposiums, seminars, etc. Assisted the hospital’s house staff in developing and implementing research grants, methodologies and research protocols. Designed and maintained database using hardware and software packages such as Harris, Cyber, IBM, BMDP, SPSS, Minitab, SASS, etc.

University of Massachusetts Medical Center, 55 Lake Avenue North, Worcester, MA 01655. Department of General Medicine/Primary Care. Clinical Research Assistant. Assisted in writing and acquiring research grants. Developed and implemented research

protocols. Developed and maintained data bases for analysis. Assisted in analyzing research data for a vitamin B-12 and a H-Flu study which were later published in Gerontology and Journal of Public Health respectively.

RESEARCH: 1992-1995

The Worcester AIDS Project (WAC). Program Coordinator, Spectrum Research Center. This five year study funded by the National Institute on Drug Addiction (NIDA) was designed to develop and evaluate a community-wide surveillance system for HIV infection and risky behaviors among intravenous drug users (IDU’s) and their sexual contacts in the greater Worcester area. The Waiting List Community Study. Project Manager, Spectrum Research Center and NOVA Research Center, Bethesda MD. This three-year controlled trial was funded by National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) to test the effectiveness of a minimalist intervention (MI) to reduce IDU’s risk for becoming infected with HIV. Another intent of the MI strategies was to implement a prescribed set of interventions using the least amount of staff and resources to engage IDU’s who were placed on waiting list for methadone maintenance.

1986-1991

In-Treatment Research Studies As a Principal Investigator in the Spectrum Research Center, a number of studies were conducted relative to dosage requirement, client recidivism, and cultural appropriateness. The West Indian Heart Disease Study. CO-PI with Dr. Harry Greene at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center to conduct the first study, which attempted to document the coronary risk profile of West Indian immigrants residing in the Northeast. The objective of this study was to determine the effects of retention of diet and other aspects of West Indian traditional lifestyles on cardiovascular risk factors among female immigrants.

1982

The Jamaica Research Project This comprehensive study was of the public health care system in Kingston, Jamaica. The project was approximately nine months of fieldwork followed by three months of literature review and material preparation, which culminated in an one hundred and twenty-page report entitled, “An Analysis of the Kingston Public Health Care System.” The project was supported by the Jamaican Ministry of Health and Environmental Control, Hampshire College, and private donors.

1983

Caribbean and Jamaican Health Care System- Directed by Dr. Bob Von-Der Lippe, Hampshire College. This case study of Jamaica’s, Puerto Rico’s, and Cuba’s health care systems served to analyze the development process of these various systems. In this seventy-four-page analysis, the main focus was the identification of various factors, which either advances or retards the development of each system.
