STRATEGIES FOR A TOTAL

RECOVERY

by Jason sciscoe

David was a visionary. As prophetic men often do in times of great transition, young David discovered the vision of the future alone in the presence of God. Before Israel would ever know his name God identified him as a man after His heart (1 Samuel 13:14). This passion to go beyond the accepted form of worship and experience the continual joy of truly knowing God would become the driving force behind his whole life. Being anointed by Samuel to be the next king of Israel only intensified his passion for the things of God and tied him deeper to the prophetic destiny of his people. David learned how to war effectively through the prophetic words spoken over his life. He killed a lion, a bear, and a giant by the force of those words. He knew he would be king some day so he was not afraid to face any enemy that stood between him and the promises of God. He was so immersed in the prophetic that after he killed Goliath, he took the giant’s head to the city of Jerusalem still occupied by the Jebusites. He was sending a message to that city: what I did to this giant, I will one day do to you when I am king! So a champion was born and in time, a movement. King Saul feared him, but it only caused David to increase his influence. As Saul hunted David, everyone that was distressed, in debt, or discontented came to David and became transformed by his anointed leadership (1

Living in Triumph | 2

Samuel 22:2). If Saul would have sought God the way he pursued David, there is no doubt that Saul’s life story would have ended far differently. David’s small band of men grew to six hundred. For more than a decade they eluded the pursuits of Saul. Finally, after yet another close call with the king, David changed the way he spoke about the future. He was weary of running. The pressure was getting to him. He knew that if things remained the same Saul would eventually kill him. His prophetic idealism was running headlong into practical realism. David had six hundred men plus their wives and families to think about now. The kingdom age he had waited so long for seemed farther away than ever. He would do whatever it took to survive. It seemed his only option was to seek asylum with the Philistines. How did David end up living in Ziklag pretending to defend the throne of his former archenemy? Did he

ever imagine his life would be like this? How did this fit into the perfect will of God for the man after God’s own heart? Sometimes it is easier to rationalize our prophecies to fit our present circumstances than to make our circumstances subject to our long-awaited prophetic words. Everyone gets tired—the strongest saints, the best preachers, and even the greatest visionaries. David was no exception. Sometimes the longevity of your trial will bring you to a breaking point. During times of prolonged pressure, we can begin to translate the promise of God into something less than what God intended it to be. Unfulfilled dreams can, at times, get sacrificed on the altar of seemingly justified compromises. Often we can review our life through the lens of the past few years and somehow arrive at different conclusions about what God has formerly promised us. David stayed in Ziklag over a year. Although God had apparently allowed him this reprieve, I am sure David began to wonder if this was God’s ultimate will for his life. It’s possible he could have rationalized that he should remain there indefinitely, “doing good” by covertly killing the enemies of Israel and thinking he could conceal it from the Philistines. What about you? Have financial pressures, family crises, or unforeseen setbacks left you compromising your position about God’s promises? Have you been tempted to settle for less than God’s best? The truth is that Ziklag is always meant to be a temporary sojourn. But the longer you live there, the greater your risk of never leaving. Crisis struck again. The Philistines called for David and his men to fight alongside them, which would pit them against Saul and their own countrymen. God in His grace did not suffer them to fight. The Philistine lords sensed the fragility of David’s loyalty and sent him back to Ziklag. To their horror and shock, David and his men returned to Ziklag only to find it burned with fire and pillaged. Their wives, sons, and daughters had been taken captive along with all their possessions. Their grief was unimaginable; broken and weak, they wept until they had no more power to weep. Losing their families was more than they could bear. How could they follow David any longer? They had lost everything and things would never be the same again. David was devastated too. He grieved as deeply as his men grieved and his tears poured as profusely as theirs. He had been through a lot in his lifetime, but this was a new low. Israel had thrust him out and alienated him. The Philistines didn’t trust him. His city was a ransacked pile of charred lumber and stone. He had no money and no

place to go. Worst of all, his family was gone. Now his trusted friends that had fought by his side were picking up stones to hurl at him. When you are stripped of everything and removed from everyone, you find out what is really in you. When there is no one left to encourage you, you discover the depth of your relationship with God. Just when it looked as if hope had fled, the man after God’s heart emerged again. The indomitable spirit of a man truly anointed by God refused to quit. This passionate worshiper refused to die. Instead, David

prophetic idealism was running headlong into practical realism encouraged himself in the Lord. With this one action, he reversed the tidal wave of despair and grief and believed that God would turn it around. In that moment born of faith, inspired by hope, and surrounded by God’s enduring love, a total recovery began. Isn’t it time for a turnaround in your life? Are you ready for a total recovery? Here are seven simple strategies you can learn from David to start a total recovery in your life.

Strategy one: Decide to get up Your recovery begins inside of you. You can’t get over your trouble until you choose to get up. David encouraged himself—you and I must do the same. Begin by speaking the right thing to yourself. Confess that God is with you and you are “more than a conqueror” through Him.

Living in Triumph | 3

What about you? Have financial pressures, family crises, or unforeseen setbacks left you compromising your position about God’s promises? Strategy two: Redirect your energy away from things you cannot change and focus on things you can

Expect God to direct your steps. As they went, David found a mortally wounded Egyptian slave lying on the roadside. The slave gave them specific insights as to where the enemy was. On the very day Ziklag was burned with fire, God was already putting events in place for David’s total recovery. Live every day with anticipation that God will do the same for you.

David stopped grieving and started thinking about ways to recover what his enemy had taken from him. You cannot change what has already happened, but you can affect what is going to happen. Once you have grieved over your losses, you can start preparing yourself to recover everything you lost.

Strategy six: Help others recover along the way and they will help you

Strategy three: Listen to God Take all of your questions to God. David did. He called for the priest and inquired of the Lord. He let God determine his outlook about his present distress. Exchange your limited view of the circumstance for God’s view. Let God’s voice be the final word. He knows the end from the beginning.

Strategy four: Obey immediately God told David to pursue. The promise of total recovery requires action on your part. God will not do it all by Himself. You must do whatever you can do. When you immediately act upon the word given to you, it gives you strength to do more, go farther, and fight longer than you ever thought you could.

Strategy five: Live with anticipation Living in Triumph | 4

David could have been “too busy” seeking his own captured family to minister to the wounded slave. Instead, he showed compassion upon him and revived him. In turn, the man, now delivered from the Amalekites, told David exactly where to find the enemy camp where their families were being held captive. Carry the promise of total recovery with you and share that word with others. When you minister deliverance to others it will come back to you!

Strategy seven: Ambush the enemy It’s time to turn it around. He surprised you with an attack. Now it’s time to surprise him. David and his men attacked the enemy while they were rejoicing over their recent victories just as the sun went down. They fought them until sundown the following day and totally defeated the enemy, recovering all! It is time to fight. The last thing the enemy expects is that you’ll come after him after being knocked down for the count. When he least expects it, hit him hard and take it all back. It’s your turn to ambush the enemy! Your total recovery begins now.

AN EVENT I WILL

NEVER FORGET BY JASON SCISCOE

Pastor Scott Ardary has an amazing testimony. His childhood was less than ideal. He endured much physical abuse and neglect as a young boy moving from foster home to foster home, but God had a plan for his life. As a teenager, he found the Lord and immediately began winning souls. He sold out to God and God blessed him. Soon after, God gave him a wife and two fine boys. After being successful in business and working with his pastor in the Cleveland area, God opened a door for him and his family to start a church in a little city called Jefferson, Ohio (about one hour east of Cleveland on the Pennsylvania border). Though this is a rural area, God has greatly blessed their efforts. They have a new building and a thriving congregation of 200 members. In April, I was honored to preach a four-night revival for Pastor Ardary and Pentecostal Community Church. It was refreshing to see the life-changing power of the gospel at work. Most of this congregation was made up of people that had no former church background. I heard many amazing stories of men and women who were delivered from drugs, alcohol, broken homes, and all kinds of abuse.

On the first night as I entered the church building full of excited worshipers, I looked up at the praise singers and noticed one microphone stand without a singer. A ball cap had been purposely placed over the microphone. I soon learned the tragic story that explained the hat. Just two weeks before the revival, Michael, the young man who always sang behind that mic, was killed in a terrible car accident. Michael Theodore Jr. was on his way to Cleveland where he and his friends were to be sworn in as Marines when their vehicle was struck from behind. He and two other Marine recruits lost their lives that day. With a tragedy of this magnitude in their recent memory, you would expect morale to be very low for our revival meeting, but it was not. There

were many mentions of this dynamic Christian man during the course of our meeting. It seemed the eternal impact of his life’s testimony was greater than even the grief of losing him. continued on page 11

Ladies Confer testimonies of The events of these conferences are best captured by the testimonies we those who attended. Highlighted below are a few of those have chosen to share with you.

GLOW Conference Pontiac, MI

My heart was overwhelmed at the mighty presence of God that permeated this conference. The ladies came open and hungry for a divine move of the Spirit. God never disappoints. Hunger is what attracts Him; He kept His promise and drew nigh to us. I left so full. We are changed when we pour ourselves out. His Spirit restores, revives, and fills us up.

nce Chris Bertram, GLOW Confere Coordinator, Kimberly Sciscoe

“Divine intervention had me in that pew at the Apostolic Church that night, to hear an anointed word from Sis. Sciscoe. Only God knew the tests and trials that lay ahead of me, and He knew the message was going to plant a seed that would grow. The GLOW conference empowered, encouraged, and most of all, BLESSED me. The mental recharge, growth, and change I experienced that night were amazing, just like the God we serve. Sis. Sciscoe is an awesome woman, and I am honored to have been given the opportunity to know her, but most of all, to hear His word through her. I relate to her . . . and He relates to us. Thank you, Lord, for fellowship!” —Melissa Martinez, MI “The practicality of Sis. Sciscoe’s soul-witnessing seminar impacted me the most. She gave the burden of soulwinning an everyday application in both straightforward and simple terms, and pointed out means to this end. I felt more confident about certain steps I had already been taking to be a light to those at my Starbucks, and Borders, but I learned that while I was laying the foundation for friendship I needed to pay more attention to their needs and be sensitive to the voice of God as He directed my contact.” —Sarah Holland, MI

“Today is on top of the list of all the ladies meetings I have ever attended! I’ve been to many ladies conferences in my time and I’ve never heard teaching on soulwinning like this. It helped me a lot. Keep doing what you’re doing.” —an elder from San Antonio

Winning Our World...One Step at a Time Conference Garland, TX The entirety of this conference was a work of the Holy Spirit. The highlight of the Friday night service was the emotional healing and restoration experienced by many and a prophetic roadmap for others as noted in the testimony below. Saturday we focused on ways to win our world. “How many times have I uttered the words, ‘Why, God? Why have you forgotten me? I need answers, Lord. I need you after the suffering of the winter. The stripping. The bareness. The dying. The disappointment. The darkness. It’s just too much for me.’

“But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you” (I Peter 5:10). “We received this answer from God at our 2nd Annual North Cities UPC Ladies Conference by the mouth of our guest speaker, Sis. Kimberly Sciscoe. At the time, maybe none of us knew just how much we would need her encouragement and her voice in our lives. Yes, we all know suffering, but only God knows the path we take and what He plans for our future. “On Monday, two days after our ladies conference, rejoicing in our celebration and victories from the weekend, I got a call from a young lady from church who screamed, ‘He shot himself!’ In shock, I tried to catch my breath and find out what happened. A little while later I got a text from my best friend who told me her son was dead. I didn’t believe what I was reading. Would God really let this happen? “Standing in their front yard, pacing and praying until the police let us in. So many questions . . . In the dead of winter, an 18-year-old boy who was raised in the church took his father’s rifle and shot himself. The suffering was almost unbearable. God took him in the darkest hour. ‘God, why all the suffering? Where are you, God?’ “Sis. Kimberly clearly explained that suffering is only for a season and for a purpose. Hang on; winter is where

you learn to trust. Be still and know He is God. Learn that whether the Lord is giving or taking away, we should still bless His name. She spoke, ‘Walk slowly through the pain; don’t rush the process or you will lose something you need for the next season. For it’s the choices we make in the winter that determine where we will go.’ “God knew what the ladies of North Cities would face. I am so thankful for you, Sis. Kimberly, for pouring out your heart to us. Thank you for allowing God to minister through you. I thank God for you!” “Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: but rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy” (I Peter 4:12-13). —Teresa Barnhart, Conference Coordinator, TX

Florida District Conference Sixteen hundred ladies gathered for two and a half days of high-energy worship, singing, dancing, crying, laughing, and learning. Sis. Brenda Hale of Colorado brought revelation to us about fighting spirits of oppression and fear. Great deliverances took place as ladies reclaimed their spiritual freedom. On Saturday, as I taught on soulwinning, conviction and empowerment filled the house as ladies made fresh commitments to fulfill the Great Commission. After this session, Sis. Cyvonne Davy of Florida led in a powerful prayer demonstration. More than 45 ladies received the Holy Ghost for the first time during the conference.

“I Ioved your message at the Florida Ladies Conference. I was so blessed by your ministry. I especially loved your techniques on soulwinning. I purchased The Busy Woman’s Guide to Soul Winning book. LOVE IT ! I can’t put it down. You are a beautiful servant of the Lord with a wonderful gift.”—Jolene, FL I am truly blessed to have met you at the ladies conference in Ocala, Florida. I am not sure if you remember me, but I will never forget you. I came there in bondage and confusion but God used you to tell me He was giving me a fresh start and a new beginning. He has been doing just that. I have never seen God in the way I see Him now; falling in love with Jesus is the best thing I’ve ever done. I had to fight to get to that conference. Now I see that it’s because the enemy knew what God had in store for me. You prayed with me the first night and since then things have been different. I admired something you said to me in the rush of you autographing books and talking to people as you were being pulled out to lunch. You said, ”People are more important than luncheons and dinner dates.” That meant a lot because you took out just an extra minute to sign my book. Sometimes when I get weary I read the message you wrote and it makes me smile because I know God sent you to me. I told Him on the way to the conference that He needed to tell me if this is where I needed to be and He was faithful. I have been reading your book and it’s so awesome how God has given you this revelation on soulwinning. It’s practical, easy, and it works. I have been witnessing and seeing the fruit of my labor. I plan to get copies and give them to a few other ladies. I pray that God continues to bless your ministry and family. Stay available to God because through you He forever changed my life because of your faithfulness. —Zula Thompson, FL

This girls conference had it all: wonderful worship, exciting classes, anointed choir, dynamic sign team, late-night fun, formal masquerade banquet, special coronation for the 15-year-old princesses, and, most important, life-changing altar services. What a delight it was to be at this girls conference where we learned how to SHINE from the inside out by purging ourselves of doubt, fear, sin, guilt, and shame. The girls learned the precious value of saving themselves for their spouse and they committed themselves to moral purity. On the third day during the altar service a powerful spirit of intercession broke out upon the girls as they prayed for their families, friends, and schools. “As a high school senior, I’m at a place in my life where the doors I open and the doors I close will decide the life I live. Just like everyone, I’ve had my share of ups and downs, but at SHINE I was able to look back at my sunny days and cloudy days and realize that no matter what the weather, shining comes from the inside out. There’s nothing like being in a church full of girls with a passion for God. It was amazing—can’t wait for next year!” —Natasha B, GA “To this day, I’m still talking about how great SHINE was and how much of an impact Sis. Sciscoe had on my life. I really wish she could’ve spoken more. Her visualization about the broken heart truly spoke directly to me. I was that torn heart but God is slowly but surely mending the broken pieces.” —Anonymous, GA “Sis. Sciscoe, I just wanted to tell you how much you blessed me this weekend. I was a chaperone at the High Society Conference in GA and you really made an impression on me. I have since read over half of your book and have found some very useful information. Thank you for what you are doing in bringing Friendship

florida girl’s conference These Florida girls gave it their all in the two days of classes we had together. We spoke on topics: “How to Be Used of God Now,” “Being Pure, Poised, Prepared, and Passionate,” and “Relationships...with Parents, Friends, and the Boys.” The girls loved learning what many of their spiritual/ natural gifts/talents were as they did a personal gift questionnaire. Many of their natural gifts came to the forefront as they participated in group activities such as “A Day in the Life of a Modern Day Esther, Sarah, Rebekah, Ruth, Mary, Deborah, and Miriam.” The girls shone in this interactive group activity that applied the biblical traits of these women in today’s real-world settings. The photos below give a little insight into the beauty of friendship, worship, and consecration that we shared together.

“Girls conference was an amazing experience; hearing Sister Sciscoe teach and share stories of her past experiences helped me out the most. I know I am not the only one that goes through hard times. God always allows a rainbow to appear after a storm.” —Marie Hermis “It was one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had. I am glad my sisters and I went. My eyes were opened to recognize the still, small voice and I learned to tell the difference between that voice and others I have heard. It also helped me to realize the type of woman I want to be and what kind of guy I want to marry: someone who is going to be a pastor, an evangelist, or something. But I cannot just be a normal wife.” —Nikki Hermis “I had the time of my life at the services. Questions I had not even mentioned to my family were answered without even the slightest change in Sister Sciscoe’s messages. It was like God had spoken to her specifically for me. I know there were other girls who along with my sisters’ lives were changed.” —Renee Hermis

“Girls conference is one of the greatest experiences I look forward to every year. At this particular conference God spoke through Sister Sciscoe directly to me. Before the first service my sisters and mom and I were talking about what we were expecting out of the conference. By the last service Sister Sciscoe had mentioned everything I was expecting. I left renewed, on fire, and ready to face any adversary coming my way. I love that any time I go to a ladies conference no matter how old I get, God still ministers to me. I recommend that all girls and women alike should go. —Sarah Hermis “I am glad my daughter was among those young teens in the breakout sessions with you. She totally loved your classes, which says a lot. Thank you so much for what you do. My daughter wants to have classes to teach young girls how to live for Jesus. The Lord has really been moving on her this past year. My prayers are being answered. Again, thank you so much. You are a blessing.” —Jolene, FL

There was no one that prepared more for this revival than Michael did. His parents said he was constantly praying about it and inviting all of his friends to come. He had fasted and prayed much for the salvation of his friends right up until the day he was killed. Michael’s prayers were not in vain. The last night of our revival twelve of his friends were baptized in Jesus’ name. I’d like to think

that Michael’s view “from above” afforded him a look at the smiles of hope on the faces of his friends. These photos show just a few of his friends whose lives were changed by the life that Michael lived. Michael’s story of life and death teaches us that God’s ways are above ours, but He does hear our prayers. Michael was selfless and lived as a

surrendered servant. God got great glory out of Michael’s life and even his death was used to bring others eternal life. Michael, thank you for the inspiration your life is to all of us. You will live on in the lives of your friends and family and all of us who have been changed by you and your story.

I must be doing something right. Julianna and I had read books together on the front-porch swing for nearly an hour then headed inside to eat some ruby red grapefruit. After a few bites, Julianna looked at me and said, “Mommy, this is how I always imagined my life would be.” I grinned and then grinned again. All of you mothers understand the satisfaction that comes from deep within when your children say thank you in their own special way. Over the past few months I have enjoyed immersing myself in restructuring “our world,” setting up a home, creating family time, and making “mommy moments.” While all the revival traveling and speaking at ladies events has been rewarding, nothing can compare with the joy I’ve had just being a wife and mommy. I think God designed it that way. William Ross Wallace distilled the essence of “mommy moments” when he penned, “For the hand that rocks the cradle, is the hand that rules the world.” On Mother’s Day this year, I was thrilled to be with “the hand that rocked my cradle” and was honored to speak at my mother’s new church. My heart is full of thankfulness for the healing, hope, and new life God has brought to our family. I hope this summer you made time to create family moments. Make lasting memories. You won’t regret it.

BLOOM WHERE YOU ARE PLANTED

Excerpts from 2010 Mother’s Day Banquet by kimberly sciscoe

It’s that time of year when the flowers are blooming, the sun is out, and I start craving to dig in the dirt. I love to plant, but there’s one part of the process I do not like. Every year I dread it—cleaning out the pot from last year’s dirt, dried-up leaves, and leftover bugs. I know I must get through this part because my investment of flowers will be wasted if I plant them in dirty pots with old soil. So, I put on my gloves and start digging up the old so I can grow the new. The beauty of the new flowers gives me the motivation to get through the parts I don’t like. This is a lot like our life. God wants us to bloom where we are planted. Sometimes we look around and think, “Oh, I don’t want to bloom here—this isn’t the prettiest spot or the smoothest terrain. There are some things bugging me here. I’ll bloom later when things are better.” Too many people are discouraged because of where they are. They believe their happiness will come only when things change, so they spend all their energy trying to get somewhere better. God is more interested in changing us than He is in changing our circumstances. If you want to see change, if you want to see God open new doors, the key is to bloom right where you are planted. If you wait for things to be perfect before you are happy, you might have to wait a lifetime. Bloom where you are. Choose to be happy, smile, and do good things even when it is a sacrifice. When you bloom where you’re planted, you are sowing a seed for God to do something new. Even if things are uncomfortable we have to remember that God does not allow a challenge into our life unless He has a divine purpose for it.

Here are four keys for blooming where you are:

Kick out Disappointment and Discontentment. Disappointment Maybe you’re still battling events in the past or you’re disappointed by things that you thought should have happened. If these come to your mind, they are probably still affecting you. It’s time to let these go . . . once and for all. Romans 5:3-5 tells us what to do with our disappointment: “Let us also boast in our troubles; because we know that trouble produces endurance, endurance produces character, and character produces hope; and this hope does not let us down. What is this hope? It is the hope of transformation. Because God’s Spirit is in us, we believe the troubles/ disappointments are working to change us to be more like Him. They are aligning us for His will to be done in us. “Regard it all joy my brothers when you face various kinds of temptations; for you know that the testing of your trust produces perseverance. But let perseverance do its complete work; so that you may be complete and whole, lacking in nothing” (James 1:2-4). Did you catch that? We’ve got to let perseverance do the work in us. When we fight it, we actually prolong the trial and delay our growth. Perseverance means strength under pressure. James is saying, don’t succumb to the pressure or trial, but let it do its work in you that you may be perfect or complete and whole, lacking in nothing.

So, how do I go on and not succumb to the trial? How do I not let my disappointments overtake my mind and my emotions? James gave us the answer in the next verse: “Now if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given him” (James 1:5). Wisdom gives us the right perspective of the trial. God says, “Bloom where you’re planted” and you say, “Here? In the middle of this mess?” Wisdom solves every problem. Why? It gives you the prayers to pray to fix the problem and unlock the grace to get you through the situation. God’s wisdom is pure, peaceable, gentle, merciful, easily entreated, and without hypocrisy. It bears good fruit-blooms. Discontentment This is dissatisfaction with your world. “If only I had a loving spouse, a newer house, and a better job, then I could bloom. If only my kids were serving God or my health was good, then I could be happy and bloom. If only I could be a mother, then I would bloom.” If only, if only . . . God uses our challenges to “grow us up.” If God were to remove some of these things that are making us uncomfortable, we would not be prepared for where He is taking us. Let’s be honest; sometimes He plants us in places we don’t want to be. We have to say, “God, I may not like this, but I know I’m here in your divine plan and you would not have allowed it unless you were going to get good out of it. This is where God has me for this season, so I’m going to rise above it and choose to be happy.” This is what it means to bloom where you are planted. Psalm 37:4 has the best cure for discontentment. “Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.” To delight in someone is to find joy in their presence. When we make the Lord the object of our delight, spend time in His presence, and revel in His character, our deepest heart’s desires gradually align themselves with His own. We discover that what WE want is what HE wants—and then He can give us those things. Being content is a decision. It is a discipline. Like Paul, we must choose to be content. “I have learned that in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.”

what you have. When I start feeling discontent I make myself look around at the blessings I do have. I speak them out and express thankfulness for them. It’s impossible to bloom when you’re focused on what you don’t have. Many people are in much worse shape than you. You’ve heard the insight: I used to complain about my shoes until I saw a man with no feet. When you speak about your misery, things only get worse. “Death and life are in the power of the tongue” (Proverbs 18:21). Quit telling yourself how miserable you are. Sometimes we have to change the way we talk to ourselves. “I choose to be happy here. I am going to enjoy my job. I will love my spouse unconditionally. I will bloom here even though things aren’t perfect.” If we are in an uncomfortable situation, then God is either doing a work in us or He’s using us to do a work in someone else. There is a purpose for it. There’s nothing wrong with asking God to change a situation, but until it happens you have to trust that where you are is where you’re supposed to be. God may be waiting for you to pass the test and bloom where you are planted before He opens up new doors. “We are not in a position for God to promote us if we are not being the best we can be right where we are” (Joel Olsteen).

Don’t Focus on the WEEDS. Weeds are always my enemy amongst my flowers. As soon as I get rid of one patch of weeds, more crop up. I have to choose to focus on the flowers and not the weeds. It’s true in our relationships as well. You can’t change people. Some people are bent on being a weed and nothing you can do will change them. You just bloom.

Be thankful for where you are, where you live, Living in Triumph | 17

Weeds are never plucked up and put in a vase to adorn the dinner table. Blooms are admired and enjoyed by all. The best way to deal with a weed is just bloom. Don’t let difficult people steal your joy. Life is too short to focus on the weeds. When you bloom, you are planting seeds for God to take you higher.

Develop your Gifts and Talents. Invest in yourself. Make time to get better at your natural gifts, talents, and things you enjoy. Go back over your goals and put an action plan together. Blooming is growing. God made you for a great purpose so you have divine design. Seek out His direction for where He wants you to use your gifts. He knows what will bring you the most fulfillment. Your destiny is not determined by your past, by your

family, by your financial status, or how many things are against you. Your destiny is determined by the One who holds the world in His hands. “If you will take what God has given you and make the most of it—God will open up the right doors, give you the right breaks and put the right people to cross your path” —Joel Olsteen. In this season of spring, ask yourself: • What do I want to spring forth in my life? • What am I willing to plant so it can bloom? It is time to start planting. By summer’s end, what would you like to have blooming in your spiritual garden? A consistent prayer life, joy, compassion, patience as a mother, happiness as an employee, confidence in witnessing, faithfulness to church, unselfishness, ministry of singing, teaching Sunday school, volunteering, being a mentor, teaching a Bible study, having faith for the miraculous...the possibilities are endless. It’s your time to bloom.

EASTER

IN THE

EAST

BY JASON SCISCOE Being in Singapore for Easter weekend this year was very meaningful to me. I was personally touched by the purity of their trust in God. This church has deeply identified with the suffering of Christ, but they continue to be extravagant worshipers. Celebrating the glorious resurrection of our Lord with the Tabernacle of Joy was a powerful reminder that after suffering comes glory. The cross points us to an empty tomb. I witnessed the reality of His resurrection as I observed their exuberant joy in the presence of God.

I know of no greater living example of resilience and total trust in God than Missionary Steve Willoughby. There is no doubt that his example and leadership is the reason Tabernacle of Joy continues to move forward. Seeing his smile and hearing the assurance in his voice that everything would be all right inspired my faith and gave me more hope than ever that better things are just ahead for Singapore.
