of “keepin’ the music.. LIVE !!” Huge thanks go out to that small group of people who got together about 16 years ago and wanted to bring some outstanding music to Casper. It of course took a lot of effort, and time to do all the paperwork to establish the Wyoming Blues & Jazz Society as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit entity under Federal and State guidelines. That was accomplished in 1999, so that is why we say 2014 is the 15th year. The Society was founded for the purpose of promoting and perpetuating blues and jazz music. We believe that the public, young and old alike, should experience music in all forms. Blues and Jazz are the foundation of the true American music culture. The Society strives to introduce great talent not generally heard in this area. Over the years an impressive number of award winning artists have been brought to Casper, many of them “on their way up”, and many who were already pretty well established. Of course, the Parkway Plaza Hotel and the Attic have been a large factor in being able to do this. Their support over the years has been critical for having venues for our shows and jams. The Society has also been able to contribute over $5000 in scholarships to Casper College, host jams to include all ages of musicians and establish the Wyoming Blues Challenge to give musicians in our state the opportunity to compete in the International Blues Challenge. In 2013 there were a record number of over 200 members! The continuing support and involvement of members, sponsors and music lovers in the community has made these 15 years possible, but again, thanks to that handful of people with a vision for getting the whole thing started! “Australia has produced several noteworthy blues and roots acts in recent years, including some remarkable female vocalists. Anni Piper’s two previous releases... established her as a cardcarrying member of that club......Two’s Company offers 12 t racks driven by Piper’s distinctive, smoky alto, but it also highlights her considerable talent on bass....” Jonathan Black, ‘Blues Revue’ magazine, USA REVIEWS FOR “CHASIN’ TAIL” “She has the kind of voice and delivery that goes straight to your heart. The music is passionate in-your-face blues and blues rock, played well and best heard LOUD.... Anni Piper will, as my friend Don says, melt your face right off.” Sunday Night Blues Project, USA

A JAM IN 2015

“Anni uses this album and takes on a fantastic journey.... I simply cannot decide which is better or more effective: her vocals, her bass playing or her undeniably strong composition potential.” Mladen Loncar, www.soundguardian.com

Host bands are paid $200, and a sandwich off the Cafe menu. Responsibilities include providing sound equipment and drum kit, getting set up in plenty of time to start at 4. Host band opens the session with one set, then opens the stage for musicians who have signed in at the door. If there are not enough musicians in attendance, a member of the host band will be expected to fill in as necessary. At the end, the host band is asked to come back up in full to close out with a couple of songs There are "Jam Rules" on our website that all participants and especially the host band, should read, or ask for a copy at the Jam - these are not set in stone; just some guidelines to keep everything going in an orderly fashion and try to give equal time to all. We think it has been working out pretty well under these, but comments or suggestions are always welcome. If your band would like to host a Jam, please contact Jody Taylor, our Jam Coordinator at 234-4120. We love to get booked well in advance!

WYOMING BLUES SOCIETY IBC THANK YOUs A big hug to all you Wyoming Blues & Jazz Society Cats!!! Once again thank you for all your support with  the International Blues Challenge last January. After getting one competition under our belts we are now  much more familiar with the way things fly there. There were plenty of things to learn regarding the  competition itself that you would never otherwise know without being in the middle of it.  With that in mind, the Coyote Bros are coming back atcha' with a slightly  different blues style for the IBC competition. We noticed that bands of our  musical style (blues with some jazzy chord changes) didn't advance as  much as the bands that were more simple in their approach. You would  think the IBC judges would be more into "originality" but they were    definitely not.  This year we are coming back with a train pounding rhythmic style, stripped down to guitar, upright bass  and drums. We are also bringing in a big drum heavyweight from Bozeman MT, one of the finest  drummers in all the northwest, Michael Gillan. I've switched guitars to a gigantic Guild X‐175 (see picture)  which has the most cavernous and immense sound I've ever heard in a guitar.  Our trusty upright bassist  and great showman, Jobe Jennings will be right with me doing our best to dazzle. Jobe scored a lot of great  compliments for his showmanship on the judges score cards.

Hopefully we will retain our Wyoming championship this year. We will see you in July for the Wyoming IBC  and we are coming in to it hungry!!!! Love to all of you, and thank you for all that you do!

Have Mercy!!!  Reverend Gary Small  Gary Small & the Coyote' Bros.

Thanks For Memphis                                                       By  Chad Lore                                                             I would like to thank the Wyoming Blues & Jazz Society for sponsoring my  trip to the International Blues Challenge in Memphis last January.  It was the  experience of a lifetime.  It really opened my eyes to the depth of the world  of blues and expanded my appreciation of the genre.  I could go on for hours  about my experiences in Memphis but will leave you with this summary:   The weather was cold.  The beer was expensive.  The venue where I played  was marble.  The gumbo was fabulous.  And the Blues?   An epiphany!!  Thanks so much for making this trip possible.

WBJS Apparel is important!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ At this time we have regular t-shirts available, and a special selection of t-shirts for ladies. Your purchase helps the Society make a couple of bucks, but wearing those shirts when you attend other events is the big benefit! Many great contacts have been made from someone noticing the logo and starting up a conversation with the wearer.

About The Blues Foundation

It is a great way to promote the Society and increase awareness that we exist. Too many folks don't know about us, getting the word out is important to grow our membership and attendance at concerts.
