The study includes a component about student perspectives on academic literacy and their learning. Findings from one aspect of the study were presented in spring 2009. Findings from another aspect of the study will be presented in the fall of 2009, both at national conferences. Manuscripts will be submitted in 2010. Study of Teacher’s Knowledge About and Implementation of Academic Literacy: This study is in its third year and is an examination of changes in teachers’ understanding of academic literacy and changes in classroom practice over time. The research is funded by a CPEC grant and is based on the professional development work I have been doing with secondary science, social studies, and math teachers through the Redwood Area Academic Literacy Initiative. Findings will be developed for publication in 2009-2010. Student Resistance in Content Literacy Courses: Dr. Martha Ruddell, Dr. Kelly Estrada, and I conducted research on preservice teacher resistance in content literacy courses. Findings presented at the National Reading Conference in December 2006 and manuscript submitted for review in 2007. This study, carried out with three other members of the CSSE department, was completed in the spring of 2004 and the manuscript from it accepted for publication in 2005.
