WELCOME / INTRODUCTION
Dear friends, the Karate1 Premier League has become a trademark and success story of the WKF. Therefore the German Karate Federation (DKV) is proud to have been with the German Open among the hosts of these worldwide event series right from the beginning. With the Hanseatic City of Hamburg as this year’s host, we have chosen a cosmopolitan city with hanseatic flair and great hospitality. The German Karate Federation (DKV) warmly welcomes all participants from all five continents for the last big testing before the World Championships in Linz and we wish you a successful and unforgettable stay in this historical cosmopolitan city.
Wolfgang Weigert President of the German Karate Federation

Dear karate enthusiasts
On behalf of the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City Hamburg, a warm welcome to Hamburg for the German Open 2016. I was very happy to be invited to be patron of this competition taking place in the Sporthalle Hamburg. I am particularly pleased that the German Open is being held again in Hamburg for the first time since 2008. With about 800 karatekas from around 60 countries participating, we are guaranteed bouts of the highest international standard. It will make the competition one of the highlights of Hamburg’s 2016 sporting calendar. Karate is a fascinating Asian martial art that has been well established in Hamburg for many years, with enthusiasts spanning all age groups. Anyone wanting to pursue karate in Hamburg should have little trouble finding a dojo to suit them. I would like to thank the promoter of the German Open Premier League K1 2016, the World Karate Federation, and the joint organisers, the German Karate Federation and the Hamburger Karate Federation. I wish the contestants every success, the spectators exciting sport, and everybody a memorable time here in Hamburg.
Andy Grote Senator for the Interior and Sport of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg

VISA REQUIREMENTS
EU nationals EU nationals do not require a visa to enter the Federal Republic of Germany. Non-EU nationals Generally speaking, all other foreigners require a visa for stays in Germany. A visa is not required for visits of up to 90 days in an 180-day period for nationals of those countries for which the European Community has abolished the visa requirement. You will find an overview on visa requirements here: http://www.auswaertigesamt.de/EN/EinreiseUndAufenthalt/StaatenlisteVisumpflicht_node.html
Bodies responsible for issuing visas Under German law (section 71 (2) of the Residence Act), responsibility for issuing visas lies with the missions of the Federal Republic of Germany, i.e. its embassies and consulates-general. In principle, the Federal Foreign Office is not involved in decisions on individual visa applications, nor does it have any knowledge of the status of individual applications being processed by the missions. Ratione loci competence (local responsibility) for issuing the visa lies with the mission responsible for the area in which the applicant has his/her ordinary residence or domicile. Ratione materiae competence (subject-matter responsibility) lies with the mission of the Schengen state in whose territory the sole or main destination is situated.
