SUMMER Summer ... when the rising Juniors are sweating through foreign study orientation, and the rising Seniors finally feel like Seniors, ready (?) to dive into SIPs and comps. Classes drag on in the heat, but campus activities during the quarter help to remind everyone that summer can't be all work and no play. Varsity sports give way to intramural softball, frisbee golf and daily beach volleyball matches, whether in Severn's sand court or over in South Haven. Everyone gets to relax as spectators of the USTA Boys' 16-18 Junior Nationals in August, while the uK" triathlon at the end of the quarter gives individuals and teams the chance to participate and have fun. And, of course, there's mud wrestling, serving to break the midquarter tedium and generally making a mess of everyone involved, not to mention the showers. I nternational Fest on the Quad showcases the various worldly experiences and talents of both foreign study returnees and foreign students with lots of food, dancing, music, photos, costumes and customs from around the world and it isn't even an LACC. Naturally, with the coming of the un, the Quad also becomes the site of some less-focused events, like the improvised Slipn-Slide down from Chapel steps, or just sunbathing - uh , tudying. And the Quad becomes the focus with the arrival of Quadstock, the noon-to-night fest of music by student and local ba nds, full of frisbee-throwing, sun-tanning, work-shunning, beverage-drinking student fun. The first Senior TG I F confirms that summer i finally coming to an end, and that the fun has to be put off for a while - at least until Spring.

FALL Fall Quarter is a time of newness on campus, due mostly to the arrival of the next freshman class. The underclassmen actually rule the campus during this quarter, as the Juniors are away in foreign lands, and most of the Seniors are off SIP-ing. "K" received added freshness with the long-awaited opening of our Dow Science Center. The most exciting event of Fa ll quarter is always Homecoming. WINTER Winter - that dreaded "on" quarter. For everybody who isn't on foreign study, doing a deviant CD or SI P'ing, though, Winter Quarter can be fun, even if it is ten below most of the time. Classes may seem especially long and gray like the weather, but staying inside isn't so bad. There are lots of activities and, as always, Hornet sports to warm up with. But sports aren't the only diversions in the winter. Who can forget housing registration , always full of surpri es this year a lottery? The BSO dinner provides for a real celebration and the Senior TGIF leaves everyone smiling. The major campus activities of the quarter are the dancing and "gambling" of Monte Carlo and the antics at Airband. In between all of the planned activities, though , everyone makes their own fun, whether traying down the quad, making stress angels in the snow, or just kicking back with a few friends and waiting for Spring.

STUDENT LIFE Beyond K Plan activities, there are many other campus rituals that make life interesting. Streaking the Quad, getting a package a t the Union De k, walking to Munchie Mart, talking to squirrels, snoozing in the Library, driving to Sweetwater's at midnight, and relaxing at Waldo's are just some of the ways we cope with the rigors of campus life. How else would we survive fried perch night at Saga, waiting five hours for a dryer on Sunday afternoon , parking at eil Post, or spending all day in line for student housing? Isn't it ironic that "K" is known for all the big events, but it's all the little daily rituals that will come to represent our most vivid memories of college?
