First United Methodist Church Jamestown, ND May/June 2016

Pastor Elmo Herman Awesome faith in an awesome God is a sermon series that I will be sharing in the month of May. Quite a few of us reading this article will think back to the song Awesome God. I still remember the first time I heard it and how impressed I was by the title and the words of the song. This provided great opportunity for people to think about their God as being truly awesome. It makes me think about the times in my life when I have experienced the awesomeness of God. As a child experiencing the awesomeness of God in the birth of a new animal on the farm. There were cats, dogs, calves, pigs, deer, rabbits and lots of gophers. Still today when I hold something newborn, whether it's an animal or person, I see the awesomeness of God. Recently in church we covered the passage in 1st Kings 18:42 - 46. It's a great story where Elijah after three and a half years of drought climbs to the top of Mount Carmel and pray for rain. He bends down to the ground and puts his face between his knees. It's in humbling himself that he experiences not only the awesomeness of God but the power of God. The same holds true for us. When we humble ourselves before our God we stand a better chance of experiencing his awesome presence. Elijah prayed eight times in this passage before his prayer was answered. I greatly appreciate Elijah's ability to persevere in prayer. I want to close by thanking everyone that continues to remain faithful in their prayer life. Answers to break through prayers are on their way. I hope we see God's Awesomeness every day. At 19:14 (the year our church was built) or 7:14pm each day First Church’s Breakthrough Prayer Team is inviting everyone to share in this prayer. Breakthrough Prayer Awesome God, I praise you for abundantly blessing our: Families, Friends, Church, Community and World. Help me to fulfill your will. Amen.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES Taylor Schmiechel Nick Schaak Erik Wells Jared Staiert

FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH TO HOST INFORMATIONAL MEETING ABOUT NICARAGUA MISSION TRIP There will be an informational meeting at First United Methodist Church in Jamestown on Wednesday, May 4th at 6:30 PM to discuss a possible Mission Trip to Nicaragua in 2017. Paul and Mikki Schlosser, formerly of Jamestown, have committed themselves to becoming full time missionaries in Nicaragua, as of January of 2015. Their ministry is called “Faith Revealed”. They work with the Nicaraguan Resource Network and Nicaraguan pastors in developing strategies with U.S. partner churches to help the local people improve their spiritual, educational, health and personal needs. The Schlosser’s work with short term mission teams from the Dakotas and Indiana, alongside a Nicaraguan church and its community. Mission trip activities may include preaching, teaching, providing VBS, and building projects such as homes, classrooms, and churches. The informational meeting will provide an opportunity for Paul and Mikki to talk with you about traveling to Nicaragua for mission work. They look forward to answering questions about their work and what mission opportunities are available. The Mission and Outreach Committee at First United Methodist Church is planning the event and hopes to form a team that would travel to Nicaragua in 2017.
