POTENTATE’S MESSAGE

LADY’S MESSAGE

by Illustrious Sir Paul Trausch

As I sit down here to write another message, I just can't get over what is going on! You guys just keep doing amazing things!! Onion sales went extremely well. Thank You to Everyone who got in there and got it done!!. With just a little effort I think we can double our sales next year. Wouldn't that be cool. At Ceremonial you knocked it out of the park. With 75 new nobles being the biggest class in 7 years or more. It couldn't have gone more smoothly with over $600,000.00 in donations, thanks in large part to the 560,000.00 donation from the Max & Marilyn DeCamp Estate. Those of you who have been around long enough to remember Max & Marilyn are not surprised that they remembered us in their Will, knowing how much they loved the Shrine. They will always be in our hearts. Next up is the baseball showcase. This game is on track to break all kinds of records. Keep in mind all the proceeds go to the Building Preservation Association. So please come out watch a great game and bring lots of friends and family. Be prepared to be amazed at what happens when we work together. CSSA is just around the corner. I beg all of you to come to Little Rock with us. It's close, it will be fun for all, and we will be able to show all the other temples in Central States why ABA kicks ass and is # 1. We will be helping with rooms this year. The amount is yet to be determined. Regardless, lets go down there and show them how it's done. Don't forget the Pote's golf Event. You won't want to miss this one. Check it out and get your entry in early. Last thing: Pote's trip to Cabo Time is running out to make reservations and it's getting harder and harder for Dena at Southwest Travel to find air fare. Please don't wait any longer to contact her and get your trip reserved. We already have approximately 25 couples going. Don't miss out.

Ladies,

What a wonderful turn out for Ceremonial. I think everyone had a great time. At the dance we welcomed the new Nobles and their Ladies. The dance floor was busy all night, I think that there was a dance off between one of the Nobles and our granddaughter, anyway they kept us entertained, what fun! Those of you that stayed for breakfast had a nice treat, it was just what everyone needed. Hope that we continue this. Thanks Dave for the wonderful spread. Things are beginning to slow down a little. Just look at the calendar for events that all the clubs and units are doing. Looks like we will be swimming in the lakes and rivers, swinging some clubs. And of course eating and drinking. The things we do best! Imperial in Tampa July 3-7. It will be here before we know it. Ladies meeting July 28th. At the lower level of the Temple, social time 5:30-6:30 or when ever you get there. Dinner 6:30. Maybe some entertainment? We are going to have a Taco Bar. No cost this month. Yes that's right NONE. But, you still have to get your reservations in to Kim, and let her know you are coming. I don't want anyone to go hungry! Reservations MUST be in by July 25th, Don't put it off!! August 5th, Paddle Party! Yea!! Bring your Friends & Family. Come and bid on merchandise. No Ladies meeting in August. Because everyone will be at C.S.S.A in Little Rock!! We are so close that we should have a great turnout & I am sure a fantastic time. Ladies, don't forget about our new Shrine Ladies all 24 of them!! Get to talking to them, encourage them to join in on the fun meetings, and C.S.S.A Thanks for listening. What can I do for you? That's what I am here for! Shrine On!! Sue

In signing off I just want to thank everyone for such a great job. Thanks for coming out and supporting me and the rest of the Divan. You have no idea what it means to us to see everyone having fun and supporting your shrine. It is greatly appreciated. Bye all.... Now lets Shrine On.

SHELL KNOB SHRINE CLUB

by Ron Jester

Greetings Nobles and Ladies

The lake is getting busy and the temperatures are soaring, which means summer is here. Many of us will be spending our time on the beautiful waters of Table Rock Lake and for those of you that have the opportunity, come join us for our next great event! The Shell Knob Shrine Club is hosting the annual H20 Poker Run on Saturday, July 23rd, on the lake at Shell Knob. This has become one of the most fun-filled events of the year for those who participate, with lots of boating, swimming, socializing, and just playing on the lake. You also have the opportunity to win a terrific prize and eat a great meal prepared by our talented cook crew. Pre-registration for the Poker Run will be at Table Rock Water Sports and T&J Marine, both located ¼ mile south of the Shell Knob bridge. Tickets are $20.00 for those that pre-register, but you must do it by Friday, July 22nd at 5:00 pm. To register the day of this fun event, simply show up at King’s River or Big M Marinas between 9:00am and noon. All participants must check in at one of the two Marinas. After leaving, there will be four stops to pick up your cards, with the last stop at Campbell Point, where the meal will be served and the winning hand will win a large prize. Other prizes will also be awarded! If you have any questions, please contact Buck (417-858-0380) or Tom (417-671-2900). We hope you all will join us because it is always a great time! Our Bass Tournament went off without a hitch, once again. Lots of fish were caught, the food was tremendous, everyone had fun, and the weather was great. The first place prize, for big bass, was won by Ryan Cambell and Ken Schiermeir, of St. Louis. They won the John Deere Gator, donated by Jim Banks of Legacy Farm and Lawn. First place for heavy stringer was captured by the Groeteke brothers, Ryan and Brett, of the Springfield area. Every fisherman took home great prizes, with the 260 rods and reels from Lew’s. A HUGE thank you to ALL of our great sponsors for your generous donations. The Ladies had a wonderful weekend too, with our Shell Knob Girls showing off their hospitality. If you have never been down for this great weekend, we invite you to join us next year! As always, we extend an invitation to all of our Nobles and their Ladies to join in on our fun events. We would also like to invite you to our monthly dinner meetings. They are held on the second Wednesday of each month, with happy hour at 5:30, meeting at 6:30, and dinner to follow. Come and join us anytime you can. We hope you all have a safe and fun summer and that you can make it down to see us at the lake! Fraternally Yours, Ron Jester

CHAPLAINS NOTES

by Kris Booth

Greetings All!

For those of you that know me, I tend to be a very talkative individual. Rarely do I have little-to-nothing to say, but recently that was just the case. I have become overwhelmed with the feeling of true brotherly spirit and love I have recently experienced. As I write this, Ceremonial has just passed, and what a Ceremonial it was. New Nobles and Established Nobles alike came together with fun and gracious attitudes and I was truly moved and privileged to be a part of this noble fraternity of Masons and Shriners alike. Then Sunday evening I received a call from Chief Rabban Greg Keeling that took my breath away. One of our brothers was involved in a motorcycle accident and the prognosis was not good. My wife and I rushed home to get changed and get to the hospital, when we arrived we witnessed a remarkable sight. Although it was apparent that Brother Ponch was not going to make it, as we walked in we were met with no less than 7 brothers already at the hospital to show support to a fallen friend and most importantly his family, to say I was taken-aback would be an understatement. I will say Ponch will be missed dearly, but I have comfort knowing that he left us a proud Mason, knowing the brotherhood he so deeply loved was there for every moment. Nobles and Ladies, I hope if this did not touch you deeply it at least makes you think…. To steal a phrase from my predecessor, “we all knelt at the same alter…” and nowhere was that more apparent in the actions of this weekend. I am renewed in my faith, I am renewed in my hope, and I am renewed in my love for each and every one of you one hundred times over. So please, always remember, this is family, and family is forever. Fraternally yours, and God Bless, -Kris

CRUISER NEWS

by Gary Hensley

Lots of updates Online issues of the Shrine News Links to Clubs & Units Picture Galleries Fill out Masonic & Shrine Petitions online Suggestions: [email protected]

The Black Camel Has passed through our midst again to bring another Brother before The Great Architect of The Universe. Dwayne “Poncho” Crouch was called away on June 5, 2016. His love and passion was riding and he was doing what he loved when he passed. We all remember “Ponch” as a great friend, Brother, Shriner, Cruiser, and BMT Widows Son. Some of you may (or may not) remember him sharing some apple pie with you. He always had a huge smile and hearty handshake for you when you saw him. I guess that’s what I’ll remember most. Our hearts and prayers go out to the friends and family of Poncho. On May 13th Rex and I had our annual shower at the Nixa Sucker Days Parade. Accompanied by Ragedy Andy and a few Keystone Kops who were already wet we traversed the wet streets of Nixa much to the delight of the parade goers. AND, we managed to get all three of us back unassisted. That’s a first. Ceremonial was next up and we had a good turnout. We had on display on Friday night one of our new canopies we purchased for the unit. They are big, RED, and COOL. We will be taking them with us wherever we go for some needed shade. By the time you read this we will have finished the boat races and our first major fundraiser of the year. If you didn’t make it don’t worry you have the chance to make the next one at the end of the summer. We always have a great time. Coming up is our Hospital trip to St. Louis on Aug. 5-7. We will tour the new hospital early Saturday morning then have the day to enjoy terrorizing the streets of STL. It should be a lot of fun and I hope you can attend. For info give me a call. Well that’s it for now. Keep the wind in your hair. That is all…

CLOWNS by Troy “Pepe” lacey Clowns Here it is already July and this year has really flown-by! The clowns had an awesome turnout for the Circus with around 50 clowns showing up to make the kids smile! We want to extend a thank you to the SOCMO Clown unit from the Salem area and to the Moolah Clowns for coming to help us with the circus. A great time was had by all! The Spring Ceremonial proved to be an exciting event with several Novice’s coming by the Clown room to say Hi! and to enjoy the festivities. Thank you to all the Noble’s who stopped by to visit with us! If you ever thought Clowns couldn’t do anything without wearing make-up, well you are almost right! We spent a day cooking hot dogs and hamburgers for the Day at the Range again this year. This event allows individuals with disabilities to partake in outdoors activities and provides them with lunch. This year the Clowns cooked 1000 hamburgers and 1000 hotdogs! If you have wondered, Where’s the beef? we found it! Until next time… We provide the smiles for the kids!

LACLEDE COUNTY SHRINE CLUB

by Howard Ridgley

LEBANON CIRCUS A Circus is fun, great fun, for "Kids" of all ages. It's a show that features feats of physical skill and daring with animal acts and sundry performances that offer rides on elephants, camels and ponies in carousels. We sit in awe as we watch the aerialists flying through the air and laugh at the clowns as they display their tomfoolery. It's just great!! I captured children enjoying themselves on the various rides, and I could be wrong, but I think I even got a picture of an elephant with a smile on his face while performing for us. Compound all of this by giving away 18 bicycles and six scooters and you have created a memorable event that will be forever remembered. LACLEDE COUNTY SHRINE CLUB OFFICERS We have had an adjustment of our officers because Noble Kasey Griffin and his family will be moving away and he is stepping down. Noble Griffin will be missed. We wish him and his family much happiness and a wonderful future. The Vice Rajah is now Casey Shadel and the new Treasurer will be Jason Arends. A new Secretary is to be determined. Noble Arends is going to be one busy guy as he attends to his duties as Treasurer, Secretary and Capt. of the Keg Patrol. Add to this his active military duties as a senior NCO. I guess the old saying goes, "If you want to get something done, go to a busy man". Hang in there, "Sarge" ! RECENT EVENTS: Marshall and Nixa Parades UPCOMING EVENTS: 4 July 2016: Marshfield Parade 9 Sept 2016: 21st Annual E. D. Rush Memorial Tournament will be held at the Great Life Golf and Fitness in Lebanon

KEYSTONE KOPS

by Dusty Keyes

First of all the Keystone Kops would like to remind you that ALL NOBLES are welcome to attend one of our meetings and see how much fun it can be to be involved in OUR SHRINE as a Keystone Kop. Our meetings are the 2nd Thursday of every month. If you would like information on what we do or have any questions at all, feel free to contact any of us. We had a great Spring Ceremonial. Welcome to all the new nobles and their families. Reserve the date for August 13th. This is the KOPS Steak Out. It’s a great time that helps our unit. There will be plenty of great items in the silent and live auction. If you have attended a KOP Steak Out, you know the good food, entertainment and memories (some with pictures) that are made at these. Please turn in your onion money. Also pay your dues if you haven’t already. Congratulations KOPS for placing FIRST in every parade this year! Keep it up, 2016 has many more parades and many more first place trophies! Last but certainly not least. Remember that as Shriner's we are called to help kids that can benefit from the services that our hospitals provide. If you know of a child that needs these services, please contact one of the officers listed below or call the ABA Shrine office at 869-9164. HOSPITAL DADS

welcome all Nobles from any unit or club to be part of this great experience. If you do it once or multiple times it will benefit some wonderful kids and be something you will never forget.

by Shawn Brower

Thanks to all the Dads that worked the 2016 Circus in April. We had good attendance with lots of smiling face as they left JQH. It is always great to see every Noble wearing their Fez. The Dads also ushered one concert in April-all sections were reserved with over 3000 in the auditorium. In May, we had two well attended concerts and one MMA fight. Thanks to the Greeters for providing the meals before these events.

Everyone is welcome at our monthly meeting-the first Wed of each month on the third floor. Social 5:00, Dinner 6:00, and our meeting at 7:00. Any Dad interested in driving our patients to our Hospital, please call Dan Lawler(417-736-2504). Check the hospital Dads Facebook page to be kept updated on upcoming events. Remember: "It's not about us, it's about the Kids."

Our Hospital Screening resulted in four new patients being accepted into the Shriner's Hospital system-we feel it is a success if we get a single patient! It had been two years since the last screening. Thanks to Douglas Pitts and everyone that helped this year. The Ladies Sporting Clays shoot was in April with ten Dads helping. These ladies are great shots! On our June bus trip for New Nobles and their guests, we had lots of excited people enjoying seeing areas of the hospital unavailable during patient treatment days. We hope to make this an annual trip with any Noble welcome. The Price Cutter Charity golf tournament will be August 11-14 at Highland Springs Country Club. We will be working the same areas as last year with volunteers needed. Reminder if you have not worked this before a volunteer application will need to be completed. Sweepstakes tickets are $25 with first prize a 2016 Ford F-150 and $10,000 second prize. Several parades are scheduled this summer and fall. If anyone would like to drive or ride in the Hospital Dads van in any of the upcoming parades or if you know of any Shriner hospital kids contact Shawn Brower 619-8064. Tim Vendt and his Baseball Showcase Public Relations committee have been busy gathering information from TV stations, radio stations, newspapers and magazines in southwest Missouri. This will be the basis for future ABA events-several Dads are on this committee and thanks for the the hard work. Try to make this game on July 16th at Hammons Field to see the best players in the area. Bubba's Fight For Burns Run was in Clever in May and drew over 130 runners. It was a 5k and a 10k. Mike "Duck" Edwards has helped with this run before. Bubba is a Shriner Patient with one of our Burn Hospitals who is now 11 years old.We believe this is something ABA should be involved with every year. Our Hospital Van makes some trips on weekends to the St Louis airport and Haven House. These trips work well for the Nobles still working Monday through Friday. If you would want to go on a ride-along to the Shriner's St Louis Hospital or are interested in driving our patients to our Hospital, please call Dan Lawler (417-736-2504). We make 2-3 trips each week and occasionally on weekends. We

CORVETTES by Chuck Nathan The Corvette Unit has been in three parades since the last issue. In April we made the road trip to Camdenton for the Dogwood Festival parade. After the parade we were treated to some fantastic food and drink compliments of Rusty Shadel at the Kinderhook Country Club. Thank you Rusty. When the calendar rolled to May we headed north to Greenfield for our annual visit to Greenfield for the Buffalo Day's parade. Kenton Umlauf drove in the parade, but not the Directors Staff Firetruck, but a 1983 Corvette owned by Jay Brown. As always, we stopped after the parade for great food, drinks, and fellowship at Jay and Kathy's. Thank you to Jay and Kathy. Of course, June was the Ceremonial and what a day it was. Great to see so many new guys coming into the Shrine. We had a great turnout of 12 cars for the parade. Our group included three Past Potentates. Illustrious Sir Mickey Tolliver, a Corvette Unit member drove his car and carried Illustrious Sir John Richarson. Nic Mertz had Illustrious Sir John Thomas with him. Don Johnson brought out his 1963 split window and the newest car the is once again Fred Harle. Illustrious Sir Paul T. drew the winning ticket for the Glock 43 at the ceremonial dance on Saturday. Congratulations to our winner, ABA's own, Sid Rosenbaum. The gift basket provided by the Corvette Unit was presented at the ladies meeting at the Ceremonial.

You’re Invited to a Paddle Party/Quarter Auction!!!!

Friday August 5, 2016

Lower Level of the Shrine Mosque All proceeds go to: Shrine Mosque Preservation Association

Preview Items: 6:00 pm Auction 7:00 pm

Limited Seating - Reserve Your Seat Now! Email: [email protected] for reservations

Admission Only $10 Concessions Available What is a Paddle Party Auction you ask? It is an event you do not want to miss! A Paddle Party is a fun way to try to win some of your favorite items for less than a $1.00! You bring 2 or 3 rolls of quarters and use these to bid on items. We will have items to bid on that night! You will place bids of $.25 each.

How it works: For your $10 you'll receive 3 Paddles and Chips (with matching numbers for bidding). Chips are placed into the large drawing bin for the auction. When we auction an item, you decide how many chances/paddles to bid with. For each chance/bid, you place 1 quarter into the cup on your table and raise your paddle(s). If we draw your number you win the item. If a number is drawn and there was no bidder, we keep going until someone wins!! … It is that simple!

A Fun Night out with the Girls!!! So raid that piggy bank for Quarters no need for the green, silver is the best for this event! 32
