June and July have become for us at Advent a time of rest and renewal. Many of our ministries are taking a much needed time of hiatus until August. We continue our call to worship our Lord in this place, but we also know that many will travel this Summer as well. May this summer be a time where you are renewed in mind, body, and spirit to serve our Lord always. .

VBS June 13-17, 2016—Cave Quest: Following Jesus the Light of the World Planning continues for this Summer's Vacation Bible School "CAVE QUEST: Following Jesus the Light of the World". VBS will be held from 9:00am-11:30am the week of June 13-17. On sign-up central there are postings for things that are needed for the week of VBS. Please see if there is an item that you might be able to help provide. We continue to need volunteers to help, if interested please see Heather Herrmann. We are looking forward to digging deep into what it means to be a follower of Jesus who is the light of the world! Fellowship & Events Fellowship Coffee Hour We will continue throughout the summer with coffee only, unless you decide to bring some goodies to share. Join us following the 9:30am worship service in the Fellowship Hall! Advent Women’s Breakfast The women of Advent will resume breakfast in the Fall on the first Sunday of each month. Men’s Fellowship Breakfast There will not be a Men’s Pancake Breakfast during the months of June or July. Catch the Spirit Dinner There will be a “Catch the Spirit” Picnic June 5. Our next Catch the Spirit will be in August. Enjoy your summer! Book Club Advent’s Book Club will not be meeting during Summer months. Enjoy your summer! Southeastern Synod Assembly Members of the congregations from Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama & Mississippi gathered for the annual assembly of the synod n Birmingham, AL. Thank you Mary and Paul Filpus-Luyckx for being the delegates from Advent. You represented well the people of God at Advent. October 7-9, 2016 A weekend of support for men and women who have been widowed within the past three years is being offered at Camp Kinard near Batesburg-Leesville, SC on October 7-9, 2016. A New Road 33 is sponsored by the SC Synod Evangelical Lutheran Church and is assisted in funding by friends and former participants of A New Road weekends. The seminar is designed for participants to receive help with the transition to a new way of living. Professional counselors and presenters will be available with information on financial and coping skills. Ruther Strait-Ellis, Grief and Trauma Counselor, will speak on “Keys to Coping for Adults and Children” and other grief related topics. James Caulder, Informed Decisions, Inc., will share information on Social Security and Financial Issues. Attorney Matthew J. Myers will present a session on Wills, Trusts, and Probate. The Reverend Tommy Lineberger, Jr., Head Chaplain, will present a session on “The Healing Element of Sharing our Stories.” Jane and Craig Duensing will share “Songs for the Journey.” There will be a series of panel discussions that include young adults, who at various ages, experienced the death of a parent. Another panel consists of team members discussing “Plan B for My Life.” Dee Snelgrove Camp and Ann Simon (co-facilitators) and Carol Ann Green (founder) are assisted by many other team members who have attended previous A New Road weekends. This month we have another chance to serve homeless families through our commitment to Family Promise/Interfaith. For the families we serve, moving from place to place can be a difficult time of transition. Help us to welcome them into our Church home as we at Advent provide safety, shelter and food during this week. Thank you so much for all who have already signed up to help. Your dedication, caring, and help is a blessing to both the families at Family promise and to the life and ministry here at Advent.
