Life around us is decaying, Sign of our mortality; Yet we yearn for life unending; This God’s plan–our destiny.

Jubilee Year of Mercy

Let us work for our salvation As Christ bids us all to do; One with him we share his mission: All creation to renew.

December 8, 2015 to November 20, 2016

“Merciful Like the Father”

While we wait the new creation, Let us spread God’s love on earth; Here we make our preparation To be children of new birth. O Sacred Heart, O Love Divine!

Text: © 2005, John G. Hibbard.

Tune: WINCHESTER NEW, LM.

1.

O Sacred Heart! O Love divine! God’s merciful and saving Sign, Who guides the world to its true goal And lifts the burdens of our soul.

2.

O Sacred Heart, O life anew! Refreshing all who follow you; Whose death defeats our sinful pride With precious Blood from wounded side!

3.

O Sacred Heart, O radiant light! Now seated at the Father’s right; Whose love descends from heaven above To show the passion of your love.

4.

O Sacred Heart, O gentle yoke! Whose saving mercy we invoke; The Church you call to be a sign Of love out-poured from you, the Vine.

5.

O Sacred Heart! O mercy sure! That moves our hearts to serve the poor; Whose Cross bestows the healing light To comfort us in every plight.

Now Let Us Heed Christ’s Gracious Call

Text: © 2011, John G. Hibbard.

1.

Tune: MELCOMBE, LM.

Now let us heed Christ’s gracious call To take the Cross, forsaking all, And set our face to serve the Lord, With firm resolve and faith restored.

2. To follow Christ without reserve, We pray our life will never swerve Or from his company depart, But serve the Lord with mind and heart. 3. With love renewed we pray the Lord, That we will serve with one accord: Christ’s risen life we gladly share With those who live in sin’s despair. 4. Give glory to our God most high, For Christ who on the Cross did die, That works of mercy, now begun, Will help all people live as one. 5. Now at this Altar is the Sign Of God’s true love for contrite hearts; For with all sinners Christ does dine And gives the life that love imparts.

Praise the Lord Who Made Us Stewards

Text: © 2007, John G. Hibbard.

1.

Tune: EN CLARA VOX or STUUTGART, 87.87.

Praise the Lord who made us stewards Of his work ‘til time shall cease; When he visits all his vineyards, Judging care for lands and seas.

2. Let us build on earth God’s Kingdom With the love Christ does extend; So we seek the Spirit’s wisdom To be stewards to the end. 3. Through the trials of life we journey; On the path to heav’n we race; Here to know God’s loving mercy, There to see God’s holy face. »

3. Blessed be all those who suffer For the sake of Jesus’ name; Their reward is great in heaven, Great their joy as they proclaim: Blessed be the God who loves us, Who has called us as his own.

4. Blest be God who lifts the humble, Feeds with finest wheat the poor, Hears the prayer of those in trouble, And through Christ our pride does cure. Blessed be this God who loves us, And who shares new life with all.

Let Us Love As Christ’s Disciple

Text: © 2012, John G. Hibbard.

1.

Let us love as Christ’s disciple For the glory of God’s name And do good to all his people, As his mercy we proclaim.

2. God the Lord alone is holy; His compassion he has shown Through his steadfast love and mercy, Coming from his glor’ous throne. 3. Called to love not only neighbour, But our enemies as well, May we seek the Spirit’s favour, That in peace with all we dwell. 4. Drive all hatred and resentment From our hearts and minds, O Lord, That we follow your commandment With a love that brings accord. 5. Grant our love be seen in action And true mercy in our deeds, That we share with all the vision Of your bounty in our needs.

Anointed by the Spirit, The Scriptures he fulfills, And reading from the prophet, God’s favour he instills. For captives there is freedom, And for the blind new sight, The Christ proclaims the Kingdom Has dawned in glorious light. Therefore we praise the Father For sending Christ the Lord To be our life and Saviour, Whose love brings us accord. What we have seen and witnessed, We tell to all on earth, That are truly blessèd Through Christ with second birth. We share a blest communion With Christ through faith and love, Whose word brings us salvation From God who reigns above. With saints we sing our praises To God, the triune One, The Spirit who now raises Our minds to Christ the Son. Blessed Are the Poor and Hungry

Blessed are the meek and lowly, For the earth they will posses; Blest are those who show true mercy, Those who search for righteousness. Blessed be the God who loves us, Who shows mercy to his own. »

Seeking mercy, come to Jesus, To implore his healing grace, For we know our Lord is gracious And our cares he will embrace. Praise the Lord who shows us kindness With new life for all our race. Christ has chosen to enrich us Through the power of his Cross, Sharing life that he possesses To restore our greatest loss. Praise the Lord who shows us kindness Through the glory of his Cross. Filled with zeal by the Gospel, We rejoice in endless life For the Lord has saved his people From the death of endless strife. Praise the Lord who conquers evil, Where the deeds of death are rife. Christ the Word of hope and mercy, Comforts those both far and near; When our lives and hopes grow weary, Know the Lord will then appear. Praise the Lord, the dawn of glory, Who will dry our every tear.

Gracious Father, source of mercy, Living Word who came to earth, Spirit of God’s love and glory, Crowning life with heav’nly birth: Fill with joy this holy season In this year of jubilee And renew the Church’s mission To proclaim new liberty. Loving Father of salvation, Source of hope and radiant light, Calling us to heal division: Love and justice to unite; Bring us reconciliation In this year of jubilee, That all know the Lord’s redemption As he heals adversity. Jesus Christ, the face of mercy, Image of the Father’s love, Born in time to share our story, Mary’s Son from heav’n above: Fill your people with rejoicing In this year of jubilee For you brought your people healing, Freed from all inquity. Spirit of the new creation, Strength and hope for those in need, Flame of love and transformation, Melting hearts of stone and greed: Fill our hearts with love and mercy In this year of jubilee That we feed the poor and hungry And relieve their misery. »

This is a joyful season Of feasting, praise and pray’r, For God has brought salvation, A love beyond compare. A covenant of mercy Now given as a sign Of Christ who rose in glory To share his life divine. The Lord shall feed his people And give them pastures green, For none shall ever trample The weak they thought unseen. For springs of cleansing water Shall quench his people’s thirst And satisfy the hunger Of those the world thought cursed. O sing for joy, you heavens, Exult, O earth, and sing, For you are not forsaken But chosen by your King, Who brings God’s consolation To all his suffering ones, That you may know salvation, The vict’ry Christ has won.

Through Christ we are made friends And know God’s saving ways, That we may live reborn in love And offer God our praise.

Tune: MERLE’S TUNE or AURELIA, 76.76.D.

O praise the risen Saviour, Whose mercy shall not cease; He stood among th’Apostles, To give the Spirit’s peace; And now we know their story— Their doubt brought faith to light; Through them we know for certain Christ stood within their sight. We celebrate the witness To Christ now plainly seen; He showed his hands, still wounded, Where nails once had been. We now believe the Gospel From wounded side and hands, And know the wondrous myst’ry, That Christ among us stands. Rejoice as newborn children And praise Christ’s wounded side, The sign of resurrection, That tells of him who died. Now blest are all believers Who know but have not seen And live the joyful message Of Christ for us unseen.

“Honour, glory, praise, and blessing,” Is the pilgrim’s joyful hymn, As we journey in thanksgiving, Joining all the cherubim. Sabbath rest to know our blessing In this year of jubilee And reflect upon our needing Mercy, love and liberty.

To you, th’Apostles sing in praise, And you the prophets laud; To you the white-robed martyrs sing And raise their voice in praise. And you the Church on earth acclaims: The Father glorious! Your worthy, true and only Son! And Spirit Paraclete! You, Christ, we praise as glorious King! The Father’s ageless Son! And, spurning not the human race, You came of Virgin’s womb. We glory in the Cross of Christ, That is our life and love, Our resurrection’s pledge and hope, Salvation’s life above. Behold the glor’ous Tree of life, Reversing Eden’s strife, When Jesus’ faithfulness o’ercame Our sin of pride and shame. We praise the Wood that saved our loss, When Christ hung on the Cross; For as he freely bore our death, He gave the Spirit’s breath. Behold the Cross where death is slain So life might ever reign, The first-born Son rose from the dead To be the Church’s Head. O Tree of immortality, The fruit of victory; Our risen Saviour brought new birth, Transforming all on earth. »

Come, O Spirit, Holy One, From the heights send forth your light With celestial beams most bright; Father of the poor, now come, Come, O Giver, gifts impart, Come, O Light for every heart. O Consoler, wise and best, Kindly Guest for every soul, Sweet refreshment and control, In our labour be our rest; Be relief in midst of heat, In all woes, a comfort sweet. O most blessed Light now shine In the inmost mind and heart; To your faithful grace impart For without your will divine Life itself would never be, Nothing good would come to be. Wash away all sordid sin, Water what is truly dry, To the ill, your health supply, Soften what is hard within; What is cold make warm again, What is wayward now regain. Give the faithful who in you Place their confidence and love Seven gifts from heav’n above, Give the virtue that is due; Give salvation’s blessed end; Give the joys that never end.

Tune: LIEBSTER JESU, 78.78.88.

Word of God that brings good news For all people, poor and lowly, With your love our hearts infuse, That with joy we praise your mercy. Word of God, who brings us freedom, Teach us with your holy wisdom. Son of God, forgive our sins; Hear our pray’r for love and mercy; For in you new life begins In our spirit, mind and body. Son of God, renew your kindness, Grant, in turn, we show forgiveness. Word of God, who speaks of love, Make us agents of your healing And to be as gentle doves, When your word we go forth preaching. Word of God, we stand in wonder At your works that show God’s favour.

O God, we praise your mercy, Revealed in Christ your Son; He made the Church His Body, To minister as one. Now bless and make us holy, To serve with gratitude And feed Christ’s living body With gifts of heav’nly food. We thank you for the mission To preach with one accord, Your message of redemption Is truly our reward. With nothing for the journey We trust in you alone And preach the Paschal Myst’ry— The life that Christ has shown. »

O bless our God and celebrate A Father’s love that could not wait To pardon all so lavishly, Who have returned begrudgingly. Exult in God who sent his Son, When wayward hearts had made them run Far from their Father’s home and kin To live a life of wanton sin. Give praise to Christ for us who died, Despite our sinfulness and pride, That we might know how great the love The Father gives from heav’n above. This gift so great we celebrate: A Father’s love that could not wait To celebrate so lavishly With those who served begrudgingly. For all the Father had he gave And does not treat us as a slave, But shares with us his life divine And sets a table rich and fine. Lord our God, How Great the Mercy

In the wilderness Christ went, Forty days in hunger spent, All to show God’s word alone Is the food he made his own. Make us hunger, Lord, we pray For the Gospel’s Truth and Way. Strong to face the threefold test, Christ fulfills his holy quest– Faithful to the Father’s will– Does he serve God’s people still. Give us strength, Lord, when we fail, For we are so weak and frail. With your angels to protect, Grant, O Lord, we may reject Selfishness and greed and pride, So to be your spotless bride. For new life may we adore God our Father with you, Lord.

We come before the Father To give you thanks and praise, And this we gladly offer For your most gracious ways. We Praise You, Lord, For Your Great Love

Let your Word renew our thinking In the ways we act and pray— To be gracious in forgiving Those who wrong us through the day. Grant that we who know forgiveness May extend a healing hand, Showing your great love and kindness To fulfill what you command. As we gather at the Altar Fill our hearts with gratitiude, And forgive whene’er we falter, As we pardon others too. Now accept the thanks we offer As we praise your endless grace; And like Christ who came to suffer, Those who wrong us we embrace.

This Is the Day of Life

This is the Day of Life, When Christ arose in light; His sacred Blood has cleansed our stains And robed his Church in white. His call restores our faith, And gives the blind new sight, The mercy of the Lord gives hope To all in dark of night. O mystery profound: The Cross destroys all shame; Christ’s flesh that cleanses sinful flesh, Our hearts for God reclaims. O praise the deed sublime: The blind receive new sight. The remnant is brought home again, And all behold God’s light. For Christ renews our faith By this great paschal grace: His triumph makes us one with him, To see the Father’s face. »

David’s House has been established As we see God’s love unfold! For his offspring saves God’s people, As the prophet had foretold. Glorify God’s wondrous blessing In the Church’s grateful hymn; With the saints and Virgin singing, Let us join the cherubim. By his birth and incarnation Christ renews humanity; So we praise in adoration God the blessed Trinity. Praise the Father, Son and Spirit, God the holy Three-in-One; Praise our God until the trumpet Sounds the advent of the Son.

Gracious Father, Rich in Kindness

Gracious Father, rich in kindness, Source of life and radiant light, Send your Son to heal our blindness And to give our hearts new sight. Praise and glory for salvation Through Christ’s death and victory: This the time of our redemption, When Christ saved humanity. Christ the Son and Lord of mercy, Word made flesh from pow’r on high, Born in time to share our story, Bear the Cross for us and die. Let your word among us dwelling Change our life and history; Be the Dawn of love’s rejoicing Through the Cross that sets us free. »

So hail the Christ proclaimed of old, Whose birth and presence John foretold; Both from the womb and desert place, John did acclaim God’s saving grace. Awake and hear the Baptist cry, ‘Repent and see, the Lord is nigh.’ Prepare the path for Christ the Lord, That we may walk in love’s accord.

Tune: FRANCONIA, SM.

Rejoice, the Lord is near! The God of pow’r and might! Who brings the reign of brotherhood To all who curse the night. The mountains of our pride The Lord will soon destroy And raise the humble and the meek To revel with great joy. That day it will be said: Behold the God we seek; The Lord will come in might to save; Rejoice, he saves the weak! The Groom is robed in light To greet his waiting bride And bring her to the wedding feast And place her by his side. All honour be to Christ, Who stands now at our gate; And praise the Holy Trinity, Whose mercy we await.

Tune: STUUTGART or DRAKES BROUGHTON, 87.87.

God on us true love has lavished Through the mercy of his Son, Who now shares with us his glory In the vict’ry he has won. From the banquet feast we hasten To proclaim God’s steadfast love, That all people know the mercy Of the covenant of love. Let us sing with greater fervour Of the Master of the Feast, Who has brought us endless mercy By his death as our High Priest. For the Father’s gift of mercy And the Lord who gave his all, We give thanks and plead for healing, That in greed we may not fall. Glory be to God the Father, To the Son, embracing death, To the Spirit now and ever, Who bestows new life and breath.

Immaculate Conception O God of Life and Blessing

O God of life and blessing: The Maker of the earth, The Word of love unending; The Spirit of new birth. We sing in jubilation Of Mary’s sinless life– Preserved from her conception, Untouched by sin and strife. For long before creation You planned to send your Son To be for us salvation, Born of this sinless one. O God, we sing with gladness On this most joyful feast, Through her, conceived as sinless, The reign of sin has ceased. Now through the looming darkness Emerges Christ the Sun– The Lord who shines with kindness Upon his chosen one. And so we praise the Virgin Who bore within her womb The Christ who brings us pardon By rising from the tomb. To you, O God of mercy, We bring our praise and joy, For you restored the glory That sin did once destroy. Through her, graced by the Spirit, You sanctify our race, That we, without her merit, May see your holy face. Blest Mary’s pure conception, You gave through Christ the light, And we by sins’ remission Will share her glory bright.

Immaculate Conception Loving Author of Salvation Tune: HYMN TO JOY or OMNI DEI; 87.87.D.

Loving Author of salvation, Source of life and radiant light, Sending Christ the new creation, Earth and heaven to unite. Now we praise the Incarnation By the Holy Spirit’s might, In a womb pure since conception, Waiting for God’s gift of light. Jesus, Son of blessed Mary, Word made flesh from pow’r on high, Born in time to bring us mercy, To reveal our God is nigh. Now we praise the angel’s greeting, Planned from all eternity; On the day of her conceiving, God restored our destiny. Spirit of new hope and vision, Breath of life for all on earth, Source of love and transformation, Moving hearts to seek new birth. Now we praise the Spirit’s action, Source of Mary’s holiness; Freed from sin and death’s corruption, Mary lauds God’s graciousness.

Tune: WINCHESTER NEW, LM.

Sing praise for John, the prophet’s voice, That lifts our spirits to rejoice; He is the herald for our day, Whose presence marks the Saviour’s way. To John the Prophet came the sight Of Christ the Lamb, the Lord of Light, Who comes to give a second birth To all God’s people on the earth. »
