This Is Real Life By Heidi Busse

The title of this column notwithstanding, it has always been difficult for me to let people see my “real life.” I would rather folks see the image of a perfect family with no mess, no struggle, no worries. And yet, we are a real family living in the real world having struggled with illness, death, job loss and the day-to-day stress of raising kids. So, at this time of year, I must admit that there is a part of me that wants to skip right over Holy Week and go directly to Easter. Who wants to walk through g the pain and suffering, ng, sadness and sacrifice of Triduum? And yet, the three d days ays th ay tthat hat at ccomprise omp om prrisse the Triduum (orr Holyy Week) Wee e k) are the most mos ot important in the he Church Chu urc rch year; year ye ar; the th he whole wh w holle of our Christian an faith th h is is found foun fo fou und in in tthese hesee days. Without the Last Supper on Holy Thursday, theree would be no Eucharist. Without the washing of the feet, we would not be called to serve one other. Without the Crucifixion on Good Friday, there would be no Resurrection on Easter Sunday. Yes, Jesus suffered (and so do we). But his suffering offers the promise of salvation. His death on the cross offers new life to all believers. Palm Sunday to the Easter Vigil is a long and powerful journey. We hope this issue of Take Out will enhance your family’s Holy Week experience so that your Easter celebration will be filled with all the joys and blessings of real life.

Saint Joseph was a just man, a tireless worker, the upright guardian of those entrusted to his care. May he always guard, protect and enlighten families. ~ Pope John Paul II Joseph, the husband of Mary and foster father of Jesus, was a working class man, a carpenter. The Gospels of Matthew and Luke give us the few details known about his life. He was most likely poor — he offered only two turtle doves at the Temple where Jesus was circumcised. And yet, both Matthew and Luke place Joseph in the line of King David who first D Da vid d (s ((see eee Mt Mt 1:1-16 11::11- 6 and 1-16 and d Lk Lk 3:23-38). 3:23 23-3 23 3-3 -38) 38)). Celebrate St. Joseph on March 19 by asking for his h care and protection of your family this day and always.

“Let us then endure in hope. Let us devote ourselves, side by side with our hoping, so that the God of the entire universe, as he beholds our intention, may cleanse us from all sins, fill us with high hopes from what we have in hand, and grant us the change of heart that saves. God has called you, and you have your calling.” — St. Cyril of Jerusalem
