Journeys of Paul Tour—2017 A Study Tour in Greece and Italy

BJU President Steve Pettit and Sam Horn, BJU’s executive vice president for enrollment and ministerial advancement, will host a 12-day tour of the journeys of Paul on May 8–19, 2017. Our journey is an unforgettable opportunity to follow the footsteps of the Apostle Paul. Travel with us along part of the ancient Roman highway system, the Via Ignatia, to Philippi to visit the Roman Forum, the tribunal, the prison and the riverbank where Paul met Lydia. We’ll visit Vergina, the original capitol of Macedon, to see the royal tombs discovered in 1977. Take a drive to Meteora in central Greece to view a complex of sandstone rock formations with numerous monasteries perched on the peaks. We’ll also travel along the coastal road to Corinth, where Paul ministered for 18 months. The tour of Rome will begin with the magnificent ruins of the ancient city, including the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and a visit to the catacombs located beneath the city. Visit the Church of St. Paul, the traditional place of the apostle’s execution. While in Rome, we’ll also stroll through the luxurious Vatican Museum, which houses inestimable treasures, ending with the Sistine Chapel to marvel at Michelangelo’s stunning frescos. Before concluding our time in Rome, we’ll continue in the Vatican by touring St. Peter’s Basilica, including the opportunity to view the city from the top of the enormous dome. Reservations are limited and on a first-come basis. For a detailed itinerary and information on costs and travel information, visit journeystour.bju.edu. Questions may be directed to the tour coordinator, Gary Reimers, at [email protected] or (864) 907-3657.

Steve Pettit—Tour Host Steve Pettit became the fifth president of BJU in May of 2014. An alumnus of BJU, Pettit previously served on the Board of Trustees. He earned a BS in business administration from The Citadel in 1978 and an MA in pastoral studies from Bob Jones University Seminary in 1980. Following his BJU graduation, both he and his wife, Terry, saw their calling in pastoral ministry and evangelism. For five years, Pettit served as youth pastor for First Baptist Church in Bridgeport, Michigan, before entering full-time evangelism. In the following 29 years, the Pettits traveled year-round in evangelism, conducting more than 800 campaigns, crusades and camps throughout the United States and preaching in 21 countries. Sam Horn—Tour Host Sam Horn joined the BJU administrative team in January 2015 and serves as executive vice president for enrollment and ministerial advancement. Sam Horn earned a BA in Bible (1986), an MA in Bible (1988) and a PhD in New Testament interpretation (1995) from BJU. In 2007 he completed his DMin in expository preaching from The Master’s Seminary in California. Sam has served in both academic and pastoral roles throughout his ministry. He served in various academic and administrative positions at Northland International University from 1996 to 2002. In 2004 he became the senior pastor of Brookside Baptist Church in Brookfield, Wisconsin, where he served until accepting the presidency of Central Baptist Theological Seminary in Plymouth, Minnesota, in 2011. Sam and his wife, Beth, have two children—Robert, a BJU student, and a daughter, Ashton, who attends Bob Jones Academy. Gary Reimers—Tour Coordinator Gary Reimers joined BJU in 1998 to teach in the seminary, where each of his courses contribute directly to pastoral ministry, such as expository sermon preparation and issues in church ministry. Reimers earned a BA in Bible, an MA in Bible and a PhD in Theology from BJU. In 1983 he and his wife, Jan, moved to Dover, New Hampshire, to plant Heritage Baptist Church where they ministered for 15 years. The Lord then gave Gary an additional burden to help train future pastors and missionaries, directing them to return to BJU in 1998. In addition to serving as a Bob Jones University Seminary professor and as the senior pastor of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Greenville, South Carolina, Gary enjoys numerous travel opportunities, including visiting his church’s missionaries as well as leading annual Holy Land (Israel, Jordan and Egypt) and Journeys of Paul (Turkey, Greece and Rome) tours.
