John Pearce began riding at age 11 on his family farm. After many years in the amateur/owner jumper divisions, John started his grand prix career in 1990. The following year, he and his grey mount, Super Trooper, had a second place finish in the World Cup Qualifier at the Spruce Meadows National and a third in the World Cup Qualifier in Halifax, Nova Scotia. In 1992, John was named to the Canadian Equestrian Team and represented Canada at the World Cup Final in Del Mar, California. The pair went on to compete as members of the winning Canadian team at the 1992 CSIO Mexico Nations' Cup. In 1995, John had a very successful year, winning the Chrysler Leading Canadian Rider Award at the Spruce Meadows Masters and being a member of the winning Nations' Cup teams in New York and Toronto with Vagabond. In 1998, John had a career year. He was named the Leading Grand Prix Rider at the HITS Desert Circuit in California with Vagabond, and was named Open Jumper Speed Champion five out of the six weeks of competition with Caspar. Following successful showings in the Selection Trials, John finished second overall and was named to the Canadian Team headed to the World Equestrian Games, where he was Canada's top performer. He capped off the season by winning the Jump Canada Series and helping the Canadian Team win the Nations' Cup at the Royal Winter Fair. John’s partnership with Vagabond continued until 2000, when a third place finish in the Selection Trials, earned John a berth to Sydney, marking his first Olympic appearance. John operates Forestview Farm in Stouffville, Ontario, where he trains horses and riders for the show ring, and has developed a reputation for finding and developing horses with international potential.
