Communications and Fundraising Officer – Morrisons Partnership (12-month Maternity Cover)

1. Main Purpose of Job •

To raise the profile of the Morrisons Partnership and Sue Ryder’s service expansion both nationally and locally.



Lead on the communication of Sue Ryder’s partnership with Morrisons via internal communication channels within both Morrisons and Sue Ryder as well as externally via national and regional media



To help foster collaboration and support across the charity through effective internal communications.



To support implementation of creative profitable fundraising campaigns and events with Morrisons – both colleague and customer focused.

2. Position in Organisation •

Reports to Head of Corporate Account Management and Morrisons Partnerships (with dotted line to Head of Marketing and Communications)



No direct reports



Key internal contacts: Morrisons Partnership Team, Morrisons Project Team, Morrisons Ambassadors, Central Marketing, Communications and Digital teams, Regional Marcomms Officers, Retail Communications, Fundraising Directorate.



Key external contacts – Morrisons Partnership management, Morrisons Communications teams (press, internal communications and digital), regional media, service users and families.

3. Duties and Key Responsibilities Communications (55% overall): Public Relations (15%): •

Development & implementation of a PR & media plan which delivers upon the needs of the Morrisons Partnership by raising the profile of the new services and Online Community and looking at channels for calls to action to be delivered to target audiences.



Development of a network of relationships both externally, with regional media and internally, e.g. across the Marketing, Communications and Digital teams, Marcomms Officers and Retail to help facilitate the successful delivery of a PR & Media plan.



Lead responsibility for drafting and issuing press releases; briefing spokespeople; drafting patient stories, media evaluation (monthly PR report), gathering communications collateral including third party testimonials, images and video content that relate to the Morrisons Partnership.

Digital: (10%) •

Lead responsibility for the generation of partnership content for the Sue Ryder and Morrisons social media channels and the Morrisons Partnership section of the Sue Ryder website.



Work closely with the central Digital team to build Morrisons activity into the planner.

Internal Communications: (20%) •

Lead responsibility for the development and implementation of internal communications and engagement plans which, subject to the approval of the Head of Corporate Account Management and Morrisons Partnership, help foster a culture of collaboration, understanding and engagement for the partnership across Sue Ryder and Morrisons.



Channels (Sue Ryder and Morrisons) included, but not limited to, are RyderNotes, Ambassador update, Retails Comms, Hello Himore, Fresh News, Yammer, Facebook and Twitter.

Marketing: (10%) •

Work closely with the central Digital & Marketing teams to ensure relevant marketing resources are made available to the Morrisons Partnership Team and the various fundraising activities colleagues/stores undertake for Sue Ryder.

Fundraising (45% overall): •

To provide fundraising and administrative support to help achieve corporate fundraising income targets for both individual and team activity across the Morrisons

partnership. •

Work with the Head of Corporate Account Management and Morrisons Partnership and Account Managers to support delivery of fundraising plans and help maximise income.



To act as a key contact within Sue Ryder for internal directorates, ensuring the strategy is fully implemented and Sue Ryder provides the very best in account management.



To lead and manage specific projects as agreed with the Head of Corporate Account Management and Morrisons Partnership.



Oversee the account management of selected Morrisons stores (exact stores/region TBC)



Management, support and stewardship of challenge events and participants – working collaboratively with the Events Team and wider Morrisons Team.



Build strong relationships with key contact(s) at Morrisons.



Build network of relationships beyond the key contacts at Morrisons including, but not limited to, Store Managers, Community Champions and individual fundraisers.



Ensure objectives of both the partner organisation and Sue Ryder are achieved.



Evaluate and document the partnership, ensuring all activity is recorded accurately on Raisers Edge database especially event participants and individual donors – working collaboratively with the Supporter Care team.



Provide reports and analysis as required.



Travel as well as working some evenings and weekends may be required.



Adhere to any necessary Charity law and regulations, as required.

4. Knowledge & Experience Communication aspect of the role: •

Minimum of 2 years experience working in a PR and/or journalistic environment.



Experience of developing a network of relationships across a range of regional media.



Experience of equipping an organisation to generate stories that combine the aims of that organisation with issues of interest to the media.



Excellent track record of securing successful regional media coverage for campaigns.



Excellent understanding of traditional and digital media (print, broadcast, social and online).



Experience of maintaining consistent messages with the media and acting as an official ‘spokesperson’ to the media, when required.

Demonstrable experience of creative and strategic thinking.



Experience of writing for the web and the ability to repurpose traditional PR materials to allow them to be shared online with a wider audience. Experienced in content planning, sourcing and editing for both social media and brand operated platforms.



Experience of using Facebook and Twitter to grow an engaged online community and in monitoring the social media landscape for insight, sentiment and key influencer identification.



Highly proficient copywriter (off and online) and editor.



Understanding of internal communications and the need to tailor the message to maximise staff engagement.



Experience of managing a marketing and/ or communications campaign.



A can-do approach. Must possess a positive attitude and the ability to identify alternative solutions to problems.



Excellent organisational and administrative skills – experience of google mail, google docs, Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Excel.

Desirable Experience and Skills •

Experience of using PR to generate fundraising within a charity.



Experience of working with, and dealing sensitively with, media case studies.



Creation of rich content assets.



Experienced in delivering digital campaigns and commissioning bespoke content.



Knowledgeable about web analytics and digital KPIs, particularly Google Analytics.



Proficient in HTML, Photoshop.

Track record in account/project management of large scale, complex partnerships with national companies



Experience of working in corporate fundraising



Experience of internal and external relationship development with people at all levels including at a senior level



Track record of meeting and exceeding required results



Experience of leading, planning and delivering fundraising activity, campaigns and events to budget



Experience of working as part of a team to deliver joint objectives as well as working well independently

7. Scope of Job •

Work with Morrisons to implement the agreed communications and engagement plan for the partnership.



Lead on the PR and media coverage to achieve the objectives of the partnership while working closely with multiple stakeholders across Sue Ryder and Morrisons.



Be the main point of contact in the Morrisons Partnership team in relation to the design and production of marketing material – via Morrisons and Sue Ryder.



Collaborate with Sue Ryder and Morrisons digital teams to maximise social media activity and maintain an up to date and engaging web presence for the partnership.



Oversee content for internal communications of the partnership within Morrisons and Sue Ryder.



To support ongoing fundraising activity and help maximise income from planned activities, events and campaigns



Relationship building and management – both across Morrisons (Partnership Team, Area Managers, Store Managers and Community Champions network) and internally across Sue Ryder.



Support on monitoring and reporting the partnership.

8. Dimensions and limits of Authority •

To maximise fundraising potential of the partnership with Morrisons (specifically store fundraising) alongside communicating partnership activity and fundraising success internally with Sue Ryder, Morrisons and externally.



Operate within a budget, as agreed with Head of Corporate Account Management and Morrisons Partnerships.



Can authorise expenditure within agreed budget.

9. Qualifications •

CIPR (Chartered Institute of Public Relations) qualification or equivalent or CIM (Chartered Institute of Marketing) qualification or equivalent



Degree Level or member of a professional body of recognised Graduate status. (NVQ5).
