Visit us at www.righttoplay.com JOB SUMMARY: Right To Play’s (RTP) Canadian National Office (CNO) is a busy hub, generating funding of $8M annually for RTP’s global programs, and providing crucial support in advancing our vision of a healthy and safe world through the power of sport and play. The Senior Development Officer, a new role in the organization, is responsible for implementing all aspects of our strategy for the growth and development of our major donor base. Our goal is to grow major gift revenue sustainably and to create a loyal donor base for the future. Reporting to the National Director, and working collaboratively with other members of the CNO, the Senior Development Officer (SDO) is specifically responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting stewarding and building the base of individual and corporate supporters. This key fundraising position will independently design and implement strategies to cultivate relationships with approximately 150 existing and prospective individual and corporate donors giving more than $5,000. In addition to managing the day-to-day relationships with this portfolio, the SDO will participate in developing our overall strategy for this donor group and will be a key partner in creating donor communications and stewardship plans. In addition, this portfolio involves working closely with the National Director and Founder on their prospects, helping to manage these pipelines.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Job Responsibility #1: Major Giving Portfolio (80% of Time):            

Effectively manage a portfolio of approximately 150 prospects and donors, 85% of the portfolio will be individuals Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gift donors to meet annual revenue goals Collaborate with colleagues and National Director on a strategy for high priority, high touch individual giving prospects Identify potential for high value corporate prospects and foundations Provide behind-the-scenes management of the donor pools for the CEO, Founder and National Director (e.g. proposals, strategy, follow-up) Participate in creating and implementing a multi-year plan for major donors with concrete and measurable goals, annual calendar and metrics Develop and implement relationship management strategies and timelines Maintain database records, using CRM, tracking contact and pipeline related information Conduct regular face-to-face meetings with donors, including direct gift solicitations throughout the year Establish goals to move donors up the giving cycle and solicit multi-year pledges Implement strategy for Board member involvement in cultivation and stewardship including at Board member related events and fundraisers; provide Board members with necessary professional and strategic support Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of Right To Play international programs and use this to create opportunities for donors

Job Responsibility #2: Communication, Stewardship And Events (15% of Time):       

Collaborate with the Communications teams (CNO and Headquarters) to establish a regular and engaging cycle of compelling and strategic communication for major giving donors Collaborate with the Development Writing Specialist to create targeted solicitation materials which inspire donors to give to the organization Partner with the Finance and Communications teams to maintain an efficient stewardship process that ensures all donors receive personalized and timely communication and acknowledgment Collaborate on the development of ideas for cultivation, stewardship and other fundraising events Plan and execute event follow up for major donors and prospects at all Right To Play events Participate in the monthly Global Major Donor call with other National Offices Determine, with global fundraising colleagues, which CNO donor communication materials are relevant and potentially useful for other National Offices and cooperate with global colleagues to ensure these materials are available to them

Job Responsibility #3: Performs Other Duties as Assigned (5% of Time):  

Key participant with respect to annual and strategic planning and operational execution at the CNO Attendance at all Right To Play signature fundraising, stewardship and cultivation events

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (must have): EDUCATION/TRAINING/CERTIFICATION:  

Minimum degree from a relevant university program Post graduate degree or accreditation in philanthropy or fundraising is preferred

EXPERIENCE: 

Minimum five (5) years of progressive experience and success in major gift fundraising, business development, prospecting, donor cultivation and relationship management

COMPETENCIES/PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:          

Must have excellent prospecting skills and proven ability to uncover good leads from databases and other sources Must bring creative and actionable ideas to convert donors to higher value givers Strong interpersonal skills, in particular, exceptional ability and the confidence to relate with different levels of stakeholders including high net worth individuals, donors and corporations Ability to interpret and communicate complex programs and ideas to a varied audience Proven ability to set priorities, complete work with minimal supervision and meet deadlines Flexible and adaptable; able to work both independently and as part of a team; A hands-on team player Strong strategic planning and critical thinking skills Excellent written and verbal communications skills Ability to take initiative to ensure results; self-motivated Highly professional in approach and detail oriented

TECHNICAL SKILLS:   

Extensive experience working with Microsoft Office applications Solid understanding of fundraising software such as MS CRM, Raiser’s Edge or Salesforce Public speaking and presentation

LANGUAGES: 

Fluency in written and spoken English

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS (an asset):    

Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred Knowledge of fundraising database platforms such as Microsoft CRM or Raiser’s Edge Experience within a multi-national non-profit preferred Experience with fundraising for internationally based programs preferred
