By Judith Costa There are ways to create a new life with more abundance, health, wealth, friends, pleasure or Love. The tool you can use to create it is the power of your mind, but I am not talking about thinking; what I am talking about is imagination. You can create using all colors, with all sort of details. Not only artists create. You are a creator too, and you build a life with your imagination, or the lack of it. Your brain does not distinguish between what is imagination and what is real. The brain is activated at the same level when you are in a beautiful place on vacation, or when you are planning the vacation and imagining all the things you will do. I can take all my memories of diving and create an imaginary dive trip in the Great Barrier Reef of Australia with all sorts of details. I will complete my movie with the information I have about Australia, the films I have seen, the books I have read. I have all the information I need, but I don’t think about it, I am imagining myself there. I can feel myself under the water, the day is beautiful, the sea is calm, and it is sunny. The water is at the perfect temperature and it is full of coral and fish there. All the colors of the rainbow are represented. Maybe you don’t use your

imagination because you have forgotten how to. Perhaps you believe that imagining a thing that is not real will make you suffer because you are not sure if you can achieve what you imagine. It may seem like a bad idea to daydream about what you want and you don’t have, yet. But it is not. Your imagination is your power, the energy you need to manifest the trip to Australia or anything else. Without imagining myself in Australia I cannot convince the Universe and myself that my desire is real. My dive trip to Australia is already happening; even if at the moment it is happening in my mind and in my heart, it is real. It will be manifested, within a divine timing, but I will go to Australia for sure. I can see myself there. I don’t know when I am going. I cannot tell you where the time or the money will come from, but I am sure that the Universe will take care of all the details. The only thing I need to do is to desire it, picture it, play with it, visualize it, dream about it awake and sleep, but in a relaxed way. The Universe and its concierge service are taking care of it. Meanwhile I use my imagination to go to my favorite beach in Australia every day, and I spend some time there. Redondo’s girls basketball team fell just short of pulling off a big comeback Monday, losing to Troy 52-44 in the MLK Classic at Serra High. Redondo stayed close throughout, cutting a 13-point second half lead to two on a Lane Arkangel 3-pointer with just under three minutes to play, but that was as close as Redondo (7-7) would get. Troy’s Kiana Smith scored 11 of her game-high 28 points in the final four minutes, including three shots from behind the arc, to fend off Redondo. “We had two tough games this weekend, I felt like we only played well for a half against Orangewood Academy (on Saturday). Today it was another tough game, but I liked how we played for four quarters,” Redondo coach Marcelo Enriquez said. “We struggled offensively in the first half, but things kind of came together in the fourth quarter. Overall, the effort was con-

sistent of what we are looking for.” Redondo fell behind early as Troy (10-5) put together a 10-0 run to begin the second quarter to take a 19-8 lead with Smith scoring eight points in the run. Redondo rallied with a 7-0 run of their own with a threepointer by Lauren Tsuneishi followed by baskets by Arkangel and Alyssa Munn to cut the Troy lead to 19-15. Troy finished the first half with a 7-0 run to go up by 11 at the half. Troy built its lead to 12 at 33-21 late in the third quarter after a three-point play by Smith and they held a 10 point lead with five minutes to play in the game when Redondo made its move. Munn scored four points and Tsuneisi and Arkangel hit back-to-back 3-pointers to cut the Troy lead to 44-42. “At halftime we regrouped, went over what (we) needed to fix, and what we needed to overcome and we got our intensity back up,” said Arkangel, who scored 13 points and five rebounds. En Vogue has never been afraid to break the mold and step ‘outside’ the norm. From “Free Your Mind” to “Whatta Man” they have been trendsetters in music and style! Today, they are redefining the idea of beauty and what it means beyond the traditional sense with their distinctively fusion of music and style. Recognized as one of the top 5 highest selling American female music groups in history En Vogue has sold over 20 million albums and effortlessly transitioned into the digital age, amassing over 30 million streams and over 26 million YouTube views on their top 6 hit singles alone: the R&B and Pop smashes Hold On, Free Your Mind, Never Gonna Get It, Giving Him Something He Can Feel, Don’t Let Go, and Whatta Man feat. Salt N Pepa). Now, in 2016, the group will present their most creative music yet with the release of “Electric Café”. The new music explores a variety of sounds, like electric guitars on Oceans Deep, yet stays true to their signature sound on the harmonious, Déjà Vu. In support of the new music, En Vogue will embark on a world tour with shows throughout North America (U.S. and Canada) and Europe (Holland, the U.K., Denmark). For the last two decades, En Vogue has continued to cement their legacy via stirring live performances on the The Grammys, Saturday Night Live, Oprah Show to major events such as the Kentucky Derby, Super Bowl and delighting U.S. troops in Iraq. each day is a living affirmation that they’re born to sing and have NO plans to ever let go. Since En Vogue’s debut they have set a standard for female R&B and pop groups, as trendsetters and regarded as one of the top female acts of all time by publications and media such as Billboard, Rolling Stone, BET, MTV, HuffPost, FUSE, New York Times, Complex, and US Weekly. En Vogue’s magical formula of fusing style, sophistication, sass, and sex appeal helped the group sell over eight million copies of their first album, “Born To Sing”. They went on to record six more albums: “Born To Sing”; “Funky Divas”; “EV3”; “Masterpiece Theatre”; “The Gift of Christmas”, and “Soul Flower”. Additionally, they have been featured on soundtracks: “Why Do Fools Fall

In Love”, “Set It Off” (featuring Billboard #1 hit, “Don’t Let Go”), Sesame Street’s “Elmo’s Elmopalooza!”, and Disney’s “Simply Mad About the Mouse”. Group member, Terry Ellis, also experienced solo success with her album “Southern Girl”. Contrary to belief, En Vogue has never disbanded. As true music veterans who have withstood everchanging music industry fads and trends, the group continues to record and perform worldwide with original members Cindy Herron-Braggs, Terry Ellis, and newest member, Rhona Bennett. Cindy Herron-Braggs says it best, “We find total freedom and fulfillment when we hit the stage. It’s the ultimate connection with our fans. Ken Baysinger Thrills Once Again with ‘Missing and Exploited’

Ken Baysinger returns to the literary scene and stuns readers with his best novel yet. “Missing and Exploited” (published by Xlibris) is a gripping tale of a cold case investigation of cases involving the abduction and long-term captivity of children. Recent press coverage of cases in Salt Lake City, Cleveland, and South Lake Tahoe have compelled the author to take a close look at the reality of abduction and captivity.   “Missing and Exploited” is a fictional treatment of this tragic reality. Twenty-five years after the kidnapping of a 7-year-old girl, her name is found scratched on a beam from a recently torn-down building. When the remains of a young woman are found nearby, Corrigan – and his readers – are plunged into the true nightmare of child abductions.   As in his previous novels, “El Camino” and “Deadly Gold,” the author buffers the overall darkness of Cor-

rigan’s cold case investigations by adding light-hearted vignettes involving the characters and their sometimes comical adventures. Baysinger also stays true to his diligent concern for technical and geographic accuracy, having visited all of the locations where his novels take place. He has driven the roads his characters drive and walked every piece of ground where his characters walk.   But what is different from Baysinger’s previous novels is the depth of feeling.  He leads his readers into minds of those who prey upon children in this highly-charged, emotional investigation, skillfully weaving his fiction into a background of fact

involving well-known cases of child abduction and captivity.   “Missing and Exploited” is entertaining, while acknowledging the seriousness of the topic. The bottom

Mars by 2025 should be America’s ‘great again’ goal By Rick Manning Gene Cernan is dead. The last man to walk on the moon is not walking on earth anymore, and his death should be a sober reminder of how far the U.S. space program has fallen. In 1957, the space race formally began when the Soviet Union beat the United States by launching a 23-inch diameter ball, the Sputnik satellite, into low altitude orbit which transmitted radio signals to the ground.  Just four years later, in 1961, Soviet Yuri Gagarin manned a space craft and returned to earth safely, less than a month later American Alan Shepherd was launched into space in Freedom 7 where he was able to pilot the ship rather than effectively riding in the belly of rock thrown into the sky. Six years after the Soviet’s Sputnik shocked the world, John Glenn became the first person to orbit the earth.  Six years after that, on July 21, 1969, the world watched in awe as pictures were transmitted back from the moon with Neil Armstrong’s immortal step punctuated by the words, “That’s one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind,” spoken thousands of miles from earth directly into our television sets.  Millions of kids went outside with their parents, looked up at the sky and everything was different, because a man, and most importantly, an American was on the moon. The bonds of earth had been forever broken, and the heavens were ours for exploration. Just a year later, the Apollo 13 mission similarly riveted the world as both a catastrophic failure and a miracle of human ingenuity, that safely returned astronauts Jim Lovell, Jack Swigert and Fred Haise home. But the Vietnam War wore on, the daily body counts brought to the American people by the three television networks consumed us. The disruption in our streets and the corruption in our government took our eyes away from the stars downward to a meaner, less idealistic place. By December of 1972, America was tired of spending money on moonshots.  The goal had been achieved and there was little enthusiasm for another big mission, and less than four years after our hearts were lifted, Gene Cernan became the last person to walk on the moon, and few even noticed. As difficult as it is to believe, no line on the author’s commitment is, literally, the bottom line. Baysinger has pledged to donate to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children 25 percent of his first year royalties for this novel.; hoping to help reunite kidnapped children with their families through this organization.

one who is forty-three years old or younger was alive when man last walked on the moon. Few younger than the age of fiftyfive remember the exhilaration of hearing a voice from the moon. In less than six years, America went from putting a man in orbit to putting two on the moon, but it was not without cost.  The first Apollo astronauts Gus Grissom, Ed White, and Roger Chafee were killed in a capsule fire during testing in an event that shocked the nation. Undeterred, the program went forward with a conviction that those men should not have died in vain and the mission would be accomplished. Today after the retirement of the space shuttle, American astronauts have to pay for rides into space to go to a space station that was largely paid for by U.S. taxpayers in a Russian Soyuz space capsule that was redesigned using U.S. taxpayer dollars to join a crew that is predominantly Russian. And if NASA is to be believed, the new Orion spacecraft may not be ready for a manned mission until 2021 or even 2023, probably a flyby of an asteroid in lunar orbit. Don’t expect NASA to put a man on the moon anytime soon with that schedule. Meanwhile individual companies are testing manned space vehicles with the goal of monetizing space travel. Companies with cool names like SpaceX, Blue Origin, Bigelow Aerospace, SpaceDev and Virgin Galactic are testing the earths bonds. And while these are great, it almost makes one long for the days when America was united in a mission to go to the moon, and the world was astonished when it happened.  While the obstacles of future big picture missions like Mars travel and colonization may seem daunting today, remember that our nation went from throwing a rock into space to walksee MARS Pg. 5 “Missing and Exploited” By Ken Baysinger Hardcover | 6 x 9in | 396 pages | ISBN 9781524552701 Softcover | 6 x 9in | 396 pages | ISBN 9781524552695 E-Book | 396 pages | ISBN 9781524552688 Available at Amazon and Barnes & Noble CCN

Music Industry Veteran Shanti Das Teams Up With The American Heart Association To Recruit Volunteer Ambassadors to Drive Healthy Living in Urban Communities Music industry mogul Shanti Das and the American Heart Association are teaming up to bring awareness to heart disease and stroke, the social determinants of health and opportunities to become a volunteer ambassador for community change in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. National Day of Service, Monday, January 16. Das, who is one of the newest national ambassadors for the American Heart Associations EmPowered To Serve(TM) movement, is featured in Take Me Home, a short video docuseries produced by the Association in collaboration with MIRAR. Heart disease, including stroke is the No. 1 killer of all Americans, and African Americans and Hispanics are at increased risk compared to other populations. All too often, people in urban communities suffer from diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity leading to heart disease and stroke at much higher rates than their Caucasian counterparts. In too many of the communities there are barriers to heathy living such as, lack of access to large grocery stores with fresh fruits and vegetables; lack of access to safe, places to exercise and lack of equitable heath care. Kaitlin Olson talks ‘dream’ jobs on ‘The Mick’ and ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’

Kaitlin Olson, of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” now has another weekly television gig as a wild aunt who becomes the guardian to her niece and nephews on “The Mick.” At the Television Critics Association Winter press tour, the actress said she was “super honored” to be starring in two shows at once. “I really wanted to do this, but my kids are always my top priority,” she said of working on two shows. “I have a full-time job like millions of women in America. So we’re figuring it out.” Olson is now on TV both Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
