If you hold an active GA Teaching Certificate, continue to step 2. If not, you must attend a substitute teacher training and receive a certificate, then continue to step 2.
2. Have Background Check Completed *Bring a money order for $47.50 payable to Jefferson City Schools to the Board of Education located at 345 Storey Lane, Jefferson GA 30549 *Receive an ORI number and take it to the courthouse *Have your fingerprints scanned *Return to pick up the report
3. Provide Background Report and Paperwork *Bring background report to the Board Office with *Completed: Application, Reference Forms, Proof of Education (Diploma or GED), Teacher’s Certification or SubTraining Certificate, General Information, Tax Forms, I9 (with copies of acceptable documents) and Drug Free Workplace ***When all of the above is completed your name will be submitted to the Board for approval. The Board meets each 2nd Thursday (requirements must be met no later than the Tuesday prior to the Board meeting).

Board Policy Drug-Free Workplace

The Board is concerned with the well-being of all school system personnel. The Board recognizes that a drug-free workplace encourages employee productivity and promotes the accomplishment of the Board's missions and goals. In accordance with Georgia's Drug-Free Public 1Nork Force Act of 1990, the Board hereby declares that the manufacture, distribution, sale or possession of controlled substances, or other dangerous drugs are prohibited in the workplace for all Board employees. In addition, the beverage alcohol Is included in this policy in regard to the workplace. The Board prohibits the unlawful possession, use, manufacture, distribution or sale of alcohol in the workplace. For purposes of this policy, the following definitions shall apply: 1. "Controlled substance" means any drug, substance, or immediate precursor included in the definition of the term 'controlled substance' in paragraph (4} of Code Section 16-13-21; 2. "Convicted" or "conviction" refers to a final conviction in a court of competent jurisdiction or the acceptance of a plea of guilty; 3. "Dangerous drug" means any drug or substance defined as such under Code Section 16-13-21; 4. "Marijuana" means any substance described in paragraph (16) of Code Section 1613-21; 5. "Board employee" means any person employed on a full-time, part-time, temporary, or intermittent basis and shall also include all officials or administrators of the Jefferson City Schools. A Any Board employee who is convicted for the first time, under the laws of this state, the United States, or any other state, of any criminal offense involving the manufacture, distribution, sale or possession of a controlled substance, marijuana or a dangerous drug shall be suspended from his or her employment for a period of not less than two months. Any such employee shall be required as a condition of completion of suspension to complete a drug abuse treatment and education program licensed under Chapter 5 of Title 26 approved by the Board. Any such person shall be ineligible for any employment for a period of three months from the date of conviction.
B. Any employee who is convicted for a second or subsequent time under the laws of this state, the United States, or any other state, of any criminal offense involving the manufacture, distribution, sale or possession of a controlled substance marijuana or a dangerous drug shall be terminated from his/her employment and shall be ineligible for employment with the Jefferson City Schools for a period of five years from the most recent date of conviction.
