The Epiphany. Three Wise Men were looking for the new born king. They have heard about the prophecy and have found through celestial clues that the child will be born. They traveled from the East and searched for the new born king by following the star. The wise men sought for the true Wisdom born as a man. How admirable. These wise men were intelligent and obviously leaders in knowledge and wisdom. Yet they did not stop finding the truth until they found themselves being led towards the Truth. My parents have impressed on me the importance of knowledge and literacy. For them, knowledge is wealth-everlasting, incorruptible and secured. For them, knowledge is key to life. Take note of this: Knowledge is key to life. How far have we reached as we advance in our discoveries using knowledge? Very far. We have “known” a lot of mysteries that puzzles us. In fact, we have gone so far that we have known that there might be life besides earth. Truly amazing! Yes, we have spiraled to heights of knowledge that were never before known. We advance, but we also give up something. The equation is simply the economy of human progress. When we know more of the mysteries that surround human life, we also know less of the true Truth, who is God. The Wise Men did the opposite. As they discovered truths about human life, they also learned more of the true Truth. Why? Because they did not consider their discoveries as independent from the Truth. They knew their discoveries were integral in seeking the Truth. The Wise Men followed the bright star. If we follow the bright star rather than following human illuminations, we will see not just a brightness but the daylight. o0o Epiphany means manifestation. The Lord manifested himself to the wise men through the star, a familiar sight to these astronomers. God manifests to us through the familiar. In our daily lives, the common happenings daily are God manifestations. But we are always turned towards the spectacular. In that sense, we miss a lot. Remember: the familiar is the way God manifests himself always. o0o Feast of the Baptism of the Lord. The Christmas seasons ends with the celebration of the Baptism of the Lord. In this celebration, we look at Jesus being baptized by the Baptizer and the Father proclaiming him as His only begotten Son. Jesus’s ministry starts from here. Prior to this, he has manifested in the wedding at Cana. In that occasion, Jesus protested to do a miracle because it was not yet his time. But with his mother pleading for the newly weds’ cause, Jesus did the miracle of turning the water into wine. That miracle was equally heavenly as all the other miracles he did during his public ministry. As we begin to walk with Christ, rather as Christ leads us the way, may we see that he does not fail to reveal God to us. It is our own willingness to see him all the way so that we may know the Lord well.

Knit One! Pray One! Happy New Year and welcome to 2017! St. Mary's Prayer Shawl Ministry will hold it's first meeting of the New Year on Monday, January 9 at 9:00am to 11:00am in the basement of the Lady of Guadalupe House. As we begin our new year, this ministry again dedicates it's works to providing the comfort and solace of a prayer shawl to anyone in need without charge or obligation. We extend this ministry to all our brother and sisters in Christ especially those that may have lost their connection with hope and trust in our Lord. Prayer shawls are available and located in the Gathering Space in an unlocked cabinet in the back of the room near the windows and also kept in an unlocked closet located near the water fountain in the main hallway where wheelchairs are located. Prayer Shawl Ministry meets every 2nd & 4th Mondays of the month and all meetings are open to anyone wishing to join this beautiful journey into a spiritual experience through the work of our hands. There are no obligations and all supplies are provided. Meetings are another way to get acquainted with the church family. If you would like to know more about this ministry, you can contact Carol Hawke at 541-926-2106 or [email protected] or the parish office. We also have someone available to help you learn how to crochet or knit. We look forward to having you join us!

Eucharistic Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament The Baptism of the Lord “The Eucharist is the center and summit of the whole sacramental life, through which each Christian receives the saving power of the Redemption, beginning with the mystery of Baptism, in which we are buried into the death of Christ, in order to become sharers in His Resurrection, as the apostle teaches (cf. Rom 6: 3-5). In the light of this teaching, we see still more clearly the reason why the entire sacramental life of the Church and of each Christian reaches its summit and fullness in the Eucharist.” (Pope John Paul II) Please join us for Eucharistic Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Adoration is available in the chapel 24 hours every day. For adoration outside of the 24-hour regular Thursday schedule, call the office for instructions and to enlist. Everyone is welcome. Spend as much or as little time as you can. Thank you for offering our Lord this special hour. Expect God's blessing, and give Him thanks.
