The American Republic (AMR) Federal Armed Forces and Federal navy The current prefix used for American navy Ships is steeped in revived tradition and uses USS, the original meaning of which no longer applies. Prior to the Cal-Tex Republic changing its name to the American Republic the old prefix was CTS. Even reflagged NAC ships will bear the registry USS. History and Organization. Early in the Cal-Tex Republic’s, history they purchased all of their Navy ships from Mothballed or Reserve NAC fleets. Many of these ships are still in use today and, despite a highly successful propaganda campaign to make other nations think otherwise, still comprise the bulk of the AMR fleet. Even before their secession from the NAC, Austin and Fenris had large civilian shipyards and built a huge number of merchant hulls. After Cal-Tex was formed these yards were expanded and Cal-Tex became the largest producer of commercial hulls in human space. Nearly 15% of all human cargo is carried in a hull produced in these yards. The revenue that flowed in enabled Austin (now New Pasadena) to build military yards and begin construction of their own warships. In 2171 Rio Bravo seceded from the NAC. Cal-Tex also purchased the predominately Canadian settled system of Iota Horologii and the Brazilian settled system of

Harmony from the Royal Dutch Commonwealth. The next year all three systems were granted seats in the senate and a resolution was brought forth to change the Cal-Tex Republic’s name to The American Republic and adopt a constitution very similar to the one the United states on old Earth was founded on. The resolution passed unanimously. Within the next 18 months the AMR would annex three other systems near the edge of explored space. Rumors spread about the Americans finding and possessing a derelict alien spacecraft or excavating a million year old alien colony. The AMR government denied these allegations of course. In 2184 many AMR capital ships were being rotated back to the yards for refitting, most ahead of schedule further fueling rumors they were being outfitted with reverse engineered alien technology. In 2187 ‘Task Force 27, consisting entirely of refitted AMR ships, joined with other nations in repelling an attack by the Kr’Vak at the battle of Rheinhold. After the battle a high level, and very classified, meeting took place between the NAC and the AMR. A deal was struck, called the Treaty of Avalon. The AMR would provide the NAC with the specifications and technicians needed to install Advanced Shields onto NAC ships in exchange for several new construction warships to replace the AMR’s aging Reserve Fleet. By 2193 only about one quarter of the NAC’s capital ships had been upgraded while nearly all the AMR Battle Fleet had received their upgrades. Unfortunately those ships were still few in number compared to their navies. By 2194 the Kra’Vak had reached Earth. The AMR, and others, sent every bit of Battle Fleet it could get underway, in pursuit. Only the Reserve Fleet was left behind to guard the home territory against attack. Ship Design and Doctrine The Navy is divided into four basic sub-groups. Battle Fleet which comprises all the new construction ships plus a small number of the newer NAC designs. Battle Fleet gets the best of everything and is the organization charged with ‘taking the fight to the enemy’. The bulk of the Marine units are also attached to Battle Fleet. Reserve Fleet consists of all the older NAC ships and several converted merchant ships. These ships are used for defenses purposes only. Most are very old and often not in the best of repair. Survey

Command is the exploration branch of the navy and consists of many purpose built ships. Survey command will go anywhere, even where they are not wanted, if a piece of valuable technology is for the taking. Some groups have called them little better than ‘grave robbers’. Next to Battle Fleet, Survey Command has the largest budget. Lastly, Fortress Command is responsible for each Star Systems fixed defenses and sub-light patrol ships. The AMR builds it ships with exploration well as military duties in mind. As a result most of its ships are capable of at least a minimum amount of scientific duties and often will have a dedicated science team on board. The ships are built with crew comfort in mind and tend to be much more ‘livable’ than say the ships built by the ESU. Ship weaponry, prior to 2184, was fairly consistent with other human navies. Beam armament was a priority. Pulse Torpedoes were only mounted a few purpose built units. The newer refitted ships now carry Advanced Shields and Twin Arrays, all of alien design re-engineered for human use. The rumors of a recovered space craft are true and in fact the AMR recovered two as well as the facilities they were based at. One ship was almost fully intact and is undergoing repairs to get it combat worthy. The other ship, as well as the alien facility they were discovered in, was badly damaged and there is no certainty they can be repaired. Battle Fleet does employ a few specialty ships such as Minesweepers, Assault ships etc., but all those are NAC built ships transferred to the AMR in the treaty of Avalon.

American Republic Special Rules: Gatling Battery The Gatling Battery is a specialist short-range beam mount capable of delivering a rapid burst of fire. The more advanced aiming and control systems of the Battery can also be used very effectively in point defense fire. A Gatling Battery used in anti-ship fire generates 6 beam dice (BD*) out to a range of 12 mu. These dice must all be directed at the same target. The Battery may also be used as a Point Defense installation, at which point it fully follows the rules for PDS. The one exception is that the Gatling Battery may have limited fire arcs, and if the ordnance or fighter is attacking from outside its' arc, the GB cannot fire in point defense mode. GB's with arcs to the rear of the ship may fire in PDS mode into the baffles, but they may not fire in antiship mode into the baffles.

Twin Particle Array The Twin Particle Array has become the primary armament on the newest AMR ships and is a more developed version of the convention of beam weapon. By more careful focusing and control of the particle stream and more consistent beam can be maintained. The TPA generates 2beam dice (BD*) to a range of 24 mu. The TPA can also be used in a point defense mode very effectively. In this mode it acts just as a Point Defense installation, with the exception that if the TPA has limited arcs, then the point defense coverage is also limited to those arcs, like the Gatling Battery above.

Advanced screens Thanks to advances (and scavenged technology), The AMR has developed a heavier version of the standard screens used by most human fleets Advanced screens not only protect against beam weapons, but also against torpedoes, missiles, and other weapons that normally ignore screens. Beams, Grasers, fighters, and other weapons that are affected by standard screens are affected in the same way when attacking a ship with advanced screens. SMPs and similar weapons that ignore standard screens and roll a combined hit and damage D6 are affected by advanced screens as if they were beams. Against level-1 advanced screens a roll of 5 inflicts 1 damage point, 6 inflicts 2 damage points plus a re-roll. Against level-2 advanced screens a roll of 5 or 6 inflicts 1 damage. Torpedoes, missiles, and other weapons that are unaffected by standard screens and roll one or more D6 for damage subtract 1 from each damage die against level-1 advanced screens. Against level-2 advanced screens, sub- tract 2 from each die. (Negative damage is treated as zero)

First entered service: 2173; Currently in AMR service: 1; Lost in action: 1 Decommissioned/scrapped: 0; Under Construction: 0; Received Class A refit: 5 The SHILO class is the AMR’s only super Dreadnaught, overshadowed only by the Enterprise class Super Heavy Carriers. It was the first class ship to receive the new refits. Though small for its size compare to more modern SDNs currently being fielded by other nations it none the less has given a good account of itself in battle.

AMERICAN REPUBLIC BATTLE FLEET SHILO CLASS SUPER DREADNOUGHT REFIT-A 696pts 186 Mass

PDS (POINT DEFENCE SYSTEM) Against Fighters or SMBs, roll 1 die per PDS: 1-3 = no effect, 4-5 kills ONE fighter or missile, 6 kills TWO and allows a reroll (reroll kills are same as for first die roll). First entered service: 2185; Currently in AMR service: 6; Lost in action: 2 Decommissioned/scrapped: 0; Under Construction: 2; Received Class B refit: 1 (in progress) The Refit A version has become the standard configuration and performed well in action against the Kra’Vak at Reinhold. Its advanced shields, still highly classified, are able to repel or degrade fire from human weapons that conventional shields are ineffective against. The twin Batteries, though more massive, offer the ship a much greater flexibility than standard beams.

An entirely conjectural design that the AMR refuses to say exists despite scattered, though unreliable, reports of sightings. Several military watchdog groups insist the ship is real and could only have been built with alien technology.

Battery may fire in PDS mode instead of anti-ship. First entered service: 2194; Currently in AMR service: 2 The Athena Class Escort cruisers were a joint project as part of the Avalon treaty. The NAC was required to build the hulls and engines and then transfer them to AMR yards for completion. This is why they look so radically different from more typical AMR warships. The ‘bulbous’ forward hull is actually a dense cluster of sensor and fire control systems to provide the Task Forces the Ticonderoga is assigned to ample warning and threat assessment capabilities. Intended to escort the new Enterprise super carriers, the class has not yet seen combat.

AMERICAN REPUBLIC BATTLE FLEET ANACONDA CLASS PATROL CRUISER 271pts 78 Mass

First entered service: 2186; Currently in AMR service: 18; Lost in action: 2 Decommissioned/scrapped: 0; Under Construction: 5; The refitted Anaconda is even deadlier than its predecessor and can be found in any Task Force the AMR deploys. Few enemy cruisers can match its firepower at close and medium ranges.

AMERICAN REPUBLIC BATTLE FLEET COBRA CLASS PATROL CRUISER 298pts 84 Mass

PDS (POINT DEFENCE SYSTEM) Against Fighters or SMBs, roll 1 die per PDS: 1-3 = no effect, 4-5 kills ONE fighter or missile, 6 kills TWO and allows a reroll (reroll kills are same as for first die roll). The change was essentially to add a dorsal Pulse Torpedo turret and expand the berthing spaces for the extra crew required for the weapon. The class has only seen a handful of engagements and has thus far not proven itself a viable design for the investment.

AMERICAN REPUBLIC BATTLE FLEET COBRA CLASS PATROL CRUISER REFIT-A 308pts 84 Mass

This is an unusual variant of the standard Battle Cruiser and oddly does not utilize any of the advanced weapons and shields seen on the newest AMR ships. This has led many to believe that either this ship is simply a weapon test platform or, more importantly, the AMR may be having production difficulties with its new weapons.

AMERICAN REPUBLIC BATTLE FLEET CONSITUTION CLASS BATTLE CRUISER REFIT-A 377pts 104 Mass

First entered service: 2188; Currently in AMR service: 3; Lost in action: 0 Decommissioned/scrapped: 0; Under Construction: 2; The Constitution-A is a formidable ship and is often seen leading cruiser squadrons. Two of these ships, Exeter and San Mateo were responsible for destroying a Kra’Vak SDN at the battle of Reinhold. The Constitution is more than capable of independent operations on its own as well and is frequently seen in boarder systems and anywhere the AMR Government wants to ‘show the flag’.

AMERICAN REPUBLIC BATTLE FLEET CONSITUTION CLASS BATTLE CRUISER REFIT-B 376pts 104 Mass

BEAM BATTERIES Dice at range: 0-12 12-24 24-36 36-48 Class 3 Battery 3 2 1 TWIN BATTERY 2 BD* range 24mu. Battery may fire in PDS mode instead of anti-ship.

May replace one squadron with torpedo bombers for 18pts ea. First entered service: 2179; Currently in AMR service: 6; Lost in action: 2 Decommissioned/scrapped: 0; Under Construction: 0; One of the last classes to receive the new refits, the upgrades have improved the class considerably. Though never intended to take on a warship it can match fire with many light cruisers or destroyers.

AMERICAN REPUBLIC BATTLE FLEET FENRIS CLASS ESCORT CARRIER 90 Mass 326pts (338 pts if not using Critical hits to Hanger bays rules)

Class 1 Btty scores a kill on 5 or 6 (re-roll) BEAM BATTERIES Dice at range: 0-12 12-24 Class 2 Battery 2 1

May replace both squadrons with assault shuttles First entered service: 2176; Currently in AMR service: 2; Lost in action: 2 Decommissioned/scrapped: 0; Under Construction: 0; Originally intended as a light carrier the Fenris class has been largely replaced by the larger Juno class. The class is now used primarily for ant-piracy patrols and convoy escorts. One ship rechristened the Saipan has been converted for use by the Marines as an assault ship.

AMERICAN REPUBLIC BATTLE FLEET FENRIS CLASS ESCORT CARRIER REFIT-A 90 Mass 327pts (339 pts if not using Critical hits to Hanger bays rules)

TWIN BATTERY 2 BD* range 24mu. Battery may fire in PDS mode instead of anti-ship.

First entered service: 2186; Currently in AMR service: 1; Lost in action: 0 Decommissioned/scrapped: 0; Under Construction: 0; Only one Fenris class ship has received the new refits. This ship, the Kirkwall, has been since transferred to UNSC command for participation in operation Overlord as a scout ship looking for the Kra’Vak home worlds.

AMERICAN REPUBLIC BATTLE FLEET ZEUS CLASS STRIKE CRUISER 224pts 65 Mass

PDS (POINT DEFENCE SYSTEM) Against Fighters or SMBs, roll 1 die per PDS: 1-3 = no effect, 4-5 kills ONE fighter or missile, 6 kills TWO and allows a reroll (reroll kills are same as for first die roll). AMERICAN REPUBLIC BATTLE FLEET ZEUS CLASS STRIKE CRUISER REFIT-A 224pts 65 Mass

BEAM BATTERIES Dice at range: 0-12 12-24 24-36 36-48 Class 3 Battery 3 2 1 GATLING BATTERY 6 BD* range 12mu. Battery may fire in PDS mode instead of anti-ship. First entered service: 2192; Currently in AMR service: 2; Lost in action: 0 Decommissioned/scrapped: 0; Under Construction: 0; The Zeus class refit changes the role of the ship slightly to a more close range raider but has increased its fire power considerably.

AMERICAN REPUBLIC BATTLE FLEET SPARTAN CLASS STRIKE CRUISER REFIT-A 223pts 65 Mass

PULSE TORPEDOES (Semi Armor Piercing) Hit 2+ 3+ 4+ 5+ 6 6 mu 12 mu 18 mu 24 mu 30 mu DP 1D6, ignores shields First entered service: 2192; Currently in AMR service: 2; Lost in action: 0 Decommissioned/scrapped: 0; Under Construction: 0; The Spartan class is the AMR’s newest strike cruiser. It has proven very successful in several engagements against pirate raiding ships. With shielding far heavier than most ships its size it can hold its own in a fight longer than its opponents

AMERICAN REPUBLIC BATTLE FLEET MAGNOGAL CLASS LIGHT CRUISER 180pts 50 Mass

PDS (POINT DEFENCE SYSTEM) Against Fighters or SMBs, roll 1 die per PDS: 1-3 = no effect, 4-5 kills ONE fighter or missile, 6 kills TWO and allows a reroll (reroll kills are same as for first die roll). BEAM BATTERIES Dice at range: Class 3 Battery Class 2 Battery

0-12 12-24 24-36 3 2 1 2 1

First entered service: 2171; Currently in AMR service: 4; Lost in action: 1 Decommissioned/scrapped: 0; Under Construction: 1; The Magnogal class light cruiser is an excellent design and equally a match for most other navies light units. Its only drawback is its limited speed for such a light unit. The basic design laid the foundation for the Atlanta class escort cruiser that followed. So far there are no plans to upgrade this class with the newer shields or weapons

AMERICAN REPUBLIC BATTLE FLEET ATLANTA CLASS LIGHT ESCORT CRUISER 175pts 48 Mass

BEAM BATTERIES Dice at range: Class 3 Battery

0-12 12-24 24-36 36-48 3 2 1

First entered service: 2180; Currently in AMR service: 2; Lost in action: 1 Decommissioned/scrapped: 0; Under Construction: 0; The Atlanta class is a dedicated Point Defense fire support cruiser that easily rivals the capabilities of similar ships in other navies. However its anti-ship capabilities are limited to only one beam battery.

AMERICAN REPUBLIC BATTLE FLEET ATLANTA CLASS LIGHT ESCORT CRUISER 179pts 50 Mass

PDS/ADS (POINT DEFENCE SYSTEM) Against Fighters or SMBs, roll 1 die per PDS: 1-3 = no effect, 4-5 kills ONE fighter or missile, 6 kills TWO and allows a reroll (reroll kills are same as for first die roll). ADS can fire once up to 12MU or twice at 6MU. Class 1 K-Gun score a kill on 5 or 6 (no re-roll) BEAM BATTERIES Dice at range: Class 2 Battery

0-12 12-24 2 1

First entered service: 2180; Currently in AMR service: 1; Lost in action: 1 Decommissioned/scrapped: 0; Under Construction: 0; The Atlanta refit is a major improvement over the previous version though lacks some redundancy in its anti-fighter tracking computers. One ship attached to the Galifrey carrier group was lost over Reinhold while fending off massed fighter attacks against the carrier.

AMERICAN REPUBLIC BATTLE FLEET MAGNOGAL REFIT-A CLASS LIGHT CRUISER 159pts 45 Mass

SMALL SPINAL MOUNT- BEAM Range 24MU, Beam width 1MU, DP = 12BD for each weapon. May only fire every other turn, ship may not maneuver the turn after firing. All must fire at the same time. First entered service: 2189; Currently in AMR service: 2; Lost in action: 0 Decommissioned/scrapped: 0; Under Construction: 0; The Mauler is an experimental design attempting to meld Spinal Mount weapons normally found in AMR defense satellites, onto a warship. In computer simulations the ship has done well but has not seen actual combat yet. The ship has not proven itself to fleet Commodores either who are unsure how to incorporate a ship with such indiscriminate area effect weaponry, into the close formations used by the AMR. Its short range is also a drawback.

AMERICAN REPUBLIC BATTLE FLEET ROUGH RIDER CLASS DESTROYER 108pts 32 Mass

PDS (POINT DEFENCE SYSTEM) Against Fighters or SMBs, roll 1 die per PDS: 1-3 = no effect, 4-5 kills ONE fighter or missile, 6 kills TWO and allows a reroll (reroll kills are same as for first die roll). BEAM BATTERIES Dice at range: Class 1 Battery Class 2 Battery

0-12 12-24 24-36 1 2 1

First entered service: 2180; Currently in AMR service: 6; Lost in action: 2 Decommissioned/scrapped: 0; Under Construction: 2; The Roughrider is a respectable destroyer by any measure and proven itself in countless engagements on the frontier. There are several variants with different weapon combinations or (as rumor would have it, cloaking systems) but the one presented here is the most prevalent.

AMERICAN REPUBLIC BATTLE FLEET WASP CLASS FAST FRIGATE 85pts 25 Mass

PDS (POINT DEFENCE SYSTEM) Against Fighters or SMBs, roll 1 die per PDS: 1-3 = no effect, 4-5 kills ONE fighter or missile, 6 kills TWO and allows a reroll (reroll kills are same as for first die roll). BEAM BATTERIES Dice at range: 0-12 12-24 24-36 36-48 Class 1 Battery 1 SHORT RANGE PULSE TORPEDO (Semi Armor Piercing) Hit 2+ 3+ 4+ 5+ 6 4 mu 8 mu 12 mu 16 mu 20 mu DP 1D6, ignores shields

First entered service: 2186; Currently in AMR service: 12; Lost in action: 3 Decommissioned/scrapped: 0; Under Construction: 2; Most often working in pairs the Wasp is an excellent ‘faint and parry’ attacker often taking a wide flank around enemy formations and making torpedo runs from astern. The class has been hugely successful with other minor power navies interested in purchasing the class. If sold the Wasp will be the first warships the AMR has exported.

AMERICAN REPUBLIC BATTLE FLEET APACHE CLASS FIRE SUPPORT FRIGATE 83pts 24 Mass

PDS (POINT DEFENCE SYSTEM) Against Fighters or SMBs, roll 1 die per PDS: 1-3 = no effect, 4-5 kills ONE fighter or missile, 6 kills TWO and allows a reroll (reroll kills are same as for first die roll). BEAM BATTERIES Dice at range: Class 2 Battery Class 3 Battery

0-12 12-24 24-36 36-48 2 1 3 2 1

First entered service: 2186; Currently in AMR service: 4; Lost in action: 1 Decommissioned/scrapped: 2; Under Construction: 0; Originally intended as a squadron leader for Wasp frigate squadrons the Apache class has been mostly retired. The engines of the Apache never enabled them to integrate well with Wasp squadrons.

AMERICAN REPUBLIC BATTLE FLEET TEXAS CLASS BOMBARDMENT DESTROYER 124pts 35 Mass

PDS (POINT DEFENCE SYSTEM) Against Fighters or SMBs, roll 1 die per PDS: 1-3 = no effect, 4-5 kills ONE fighter or missile, 6 kills TWO and allows a reroll (reroll kills are same as for first die roll). BEAM BATTERIES Dice at range: Class 1 Battery

0-12 12-24 24-36 36-48 1

MISSILE Range 36 MU Salvo: D6 in salvo, D6 DP each First entered service: 2191; Currently in AMR service: 2; Lost in action: 0 Decommissioned/scrapped: 0; Under Construction: 0; The Texas class is a conversion of two Rough Rider class destroyers. Modified by the NAC to launch large missile salvos the ships can deliver large amounts of ordinance at once. The AMR is not showing a lot of interest in this class for the time being however due to a shortage ammunition ships and colliers to support them.

AMERICAN REPUBLIC BATTLE FLEET SCREAMING EAGLE CLASS CORVETTE 153pts (51 EACH) 14 Mass

Battery may fire in PDS mode instead of anti-ship. First entered service: 2192; Currently in AMR service: 18 Lost in action: 0 Decommissioned/scrapped: 0; Under Construction: 18; The screaming eagle class is intended to be a replacement for the badly aging Sentinel Class. Heavier and with more staying power it can account for itself in battle very well. Only one squadron of these craft have been given Gatling batteries however due to a bottleneck in Gatling production. The remaining 9 ships have been equipped with a forward firing Class 2 Particle Beam until the weapons become available.

AMERICAN REPUBLIC BATTLE FLEET SENTINAL CLASS CORVETTE 140pts (35 EACH) 10 Mass

PDS (POINT DEFENCE SYSTEM) Against Fighters or SMBs, roll 1 die per PDS: 1-3 = no effect, 4-5 kills ONE fighter or missile, 6 kills TWO and allows a reroll (reroll kills are same as for first die roll).

Submunition Packs 3BD* hits to 6 mu, 2 BD* to 12 mu, and 1 BD* to 18 mu. By passes standard shields. Advanced shields work as standard shields First entered service: 2165; Currently in AMR service: 22 Lost in action: 8 Decommissioned/scrapped: 5; Under Construction: 0; The Sentinel class is the oldest ships in AMR service with the exception of the former NAC ships of the reserve fleet. Designed initially as fast raiders in a similar vain to what fast patrol boats were in old Earth wet navies. The Scatter pack munitions give the ships considerable damage potential if they can get close enough.

AMERICAN REPUBLIC BATTLE FLEET SENTINAL CLASS CORVETTE TYPE-G 163pts total 10 Mass

First entered service: 2194; Currently in AMR service: 0 Lost in action: 0 Decommissioned/scrapped: 0; Under Construction: 0; The refit Sentinels were an attempt to breathe new life the class but will most likely never be produced to the production issues with Gatling batteries. To date none of these conversions have been produced.
