The merger was completed in January 2011. In 2014, following an intensive cooperation process, ECA-EC incorporated the archives and history of IDOCO (Internationale des Organisations Culturelles Ouvrières) which dissolved at the end of 2013.

The European Choral Association – Europa Cantat is a network of organisations, choirs and individuals in the choral field in Europe. The General Secretariat offers information and services about the choral world in Europe. Benefit from the Singing Community

One Voice for Choral Music in Europe European Choral Association – Europa Cantat

Are you searching for inspiration or do you want to meet singers, conductors, composers and managers of all ages? Do you want to sing with people from all over Europe and beyond?    We invest in capacity building and training, in connecting people from different communities and in raising awareness for the benefits of singing. We therefore help to strengthen the choral network and offer opportunities to people like you who like singing and learning from each other. Through the over 50 national and regional associations in 29 European countries and Israel, which are members of the European Choral Association – Europa Cantat, we reach out to around 2,5 Million people connected to vocal music across Europe. Our recent study (singingeurope.org) has shown that the potential of singing people in thw European continent including Russia is around 37 Million. Our intention is to reach out to as many of these singers as possible – as well as to those who do not sing, yet. Sharing the benefits of collective singing we would like to raise the awareness for its possible contribution to the development of the individual, the improvement of social skills and the inclusion of those in danger of exclusion.

Our activities in different European countries are always international and educational, and they include opportunities for meeting people from other cultures and learning from each other. You can choose between big and small festivals, training courses, conferences and other activities for choirs of all kinds, vocal groups, singers, conductors, composers and choral managers from Europe and beyond, partly in partnership with organisations in the host country, and we promote interesting activities from our network (for details see the programme 2017 on the following pages).

ACTIVITIES UNDER THE LABEL OF ECA-EC All activities promoted by the European Choral Association – Europa Cantat including those published in this brochure are based on the following principles: activities for choirs and singers are non• competitive • all activities have an educational aspect (which can be a training course, workshops, choir-to-choir concerts, Open Singing or other elements which help participants improve their level). • all activities are international, welcoming participants from outside the host country and providing information and activities in English for an important part of the programme There are three basic types of activities published under the label of the European Choral Association – Europa Cantat (ECA-EC), with the 2017 and some 2018 activities published in this brochure.

ACTIVITIES OF THE EUROPEAN CHORAL ASSOCIATION – EUROPA CANTAT For 2017 see pages 7 - 10 These activities are designed by ECA-EC and travel between different countries. They have a typical structure which remains the same with some aspects adapted each time. ECA-EC is involved in the artistic design and the most important decision-making processes and the participation fees include reduced fees for direct and indirect members of ECA-EC as well as for participants from specific country groups (ECA-EC fee system based on a solidarity principle) • • • • • • •

The artistic programme is developed in partnership with ECA-EC and the participation fees are based on the ECA-EC system (see above).

ACTIVITIES FROM THE NETWORK, PROMOTED BY THE EUROPEAN CHORAL ASSOCIATION – EUROPA CANTAT For 2017 see pages 16 to 24 Different types of choral events that ECA-EC has decided to promote since they follow the three principles described above. The concept, structure and artistic programme are developed by the local organizers alone and ECA-EC has no responsibility for the quality of these events. Activities promoted by ECA-EC also include “Sister Festivals” of the EUROPA CANTAT festival in other continents such as the America Cantat Festival (next 2016 in Bahamas) and the Africa Cantat festival (2017 in Democratic Republic of Congo) with which there is an agreement of mutual support and promotion. Young singers between 18 and 30 years old, good sight readers ready to prepare scores in advance. English will be the working language ZIMIHC

Do you enjoy having fun, making new friends and learning a lot? And would you like to find your way in the Netherlands during only one week in summer 2017? Would you like to meet other highly motivated singers in Utrecht, also base for the famous Netherlands Chamber Choir? Then EuroChoir 2017 is the place to be! In 2017 Maria van Nieukerken (NL) and Lorenzo Donati (IT) will be your dedicated conductors. The repertoire will be a mix of Dutch and Italian choral music with the common theme of water. Rehearsals will take place on several locations to learn more about performance skills as well. Touristic information: The main location for the EuroChoir rehearsals

and accommodation will be Akoesticum, a state of the art performance art training center near Utrecht. Some of the rehearsals and concerts will take place in Utrecht, beautiful city in the heart of the Netherlands, home of the EUROPA CANTAT festival 2009, only 30 min by train from Amsterdam. It has a lot to offer, as singing capital of the Netherlands and with beautiful caals, great shopping facilities, bars, restaurants and many historic sites - you will fall in love immediately. European Award for Choral Composers 2017-2018 Deadline: April 30th 2017 Aim group: Composers in countries in which the European Choral

Festival EUROPA CANTAT XX Tallinn 2018 The European Award for Choral Composers is the continuation of the “Golden Tuning Fork” Award, organised by AGEC over many years, and was first organised by the European Choral Association – Europa Cantat in 2011/2012. The aim of the award is to discover unknown or less known choral works from different European countries, already published and/or performed or written for the occasion, that are good and interesting and can be performed by a good average choir, not just by a top-level choir. The next edition of the European Award for Choral Composers will be organised in 2017, with the winning compositions being performed in the Festival EUROPA CANTAT XIX in 2018. Choral compositions can only be nominated by a national or regional federation, member of ECA-EC who can submit up to 3 works in each category, composed by one or different composers within the past five years. Categories:

(a) choir a cappella (b) choir accompanied by up to four instruments Every choral formation from two to four parts (divisi allowed), for mixed or equal voice choirs of all kinds of genres (classical, pop, jazz, etc.) The performance time of a composition is limited between minimum three and maximum nine minutes. Awards:

Each awarded work will be performed in the frame of the festival EUROPA CANTAT XIV in Tallinn, Estonia, in July/August 2018. The composers of the winning works will be invited to the festival. In addition ECA-EC will use their best endeavours to promote the publication and the spreading of the awarded scores. Deadline for applications: April 30th 2017, the winning compositions will be chosen by September 2017.
