Blue Dragon Fish

The sea creature of this issue is nature's very own Pokemon: the Blue Dragon. It's not actually a dragon. Dragons are fictional, of course, but these little sea slugs definitely deserve the connotations that "dragon" implies. They generally spend their time loitering near the surface of the water, waiting (like most things do, it turns out) for food to come nearby. The Blue Sea Slug is also known as the Blue Ocean Slug, Blue G laucus, Sea Swallow, and the Sea Lizard. First, we should note that this really is a slug. A dramatically beautiful blue nudibranch sea slug can be found floating a long in the world's oceans. They are actually upside down, the blue foot facing up and the silvery back facing down. This coloring helps with camouflage from above and below. They are only a few centimeters long and float using surface tension and a sack of gas in its stomach. It's really heartening to see stomach gas put to such good use! From the body extends all those lovely sticky-out bits and what can onlf be called a long tail. Most slugs just have a nasty end that doesn't have the eyes on it, but the Blue Sea Slug looks like it has a rea tail. But watch out! The tips of these tendrils are armed with nematocysts, the specialized stinging cells that can only be found on cnidarians. Though, the Blue Sea Slug isn't a cnidarian. This gastropod is a top predator in its particular arena. They eat all sorts of other floating oddities such as the Violet Sea Snail, the Blue Button and the By-the"wind Sailor. Special attention, however, is given to the mighty Portuguese Man o' War. Having some sort of Snorlax-like ability, the blue dragon is immune to the man-of-war's venom. Instead of being hurt by the venom, the blue dragon actually absorbs the most potent venom from the man-of-war, which makes it even more potent, and stores it in the ends of those fin/hand-like appendages. It can do this even with cnidarians, because this slug is completely immune to their stings. In fad, Portuguese Man o' Wars is their favorite food! Not only can they munch into those tentacles, they even pick out the most powerful stinging cells they can find. Once eaten, the stomach somehow knows not to digest the nematocysts. They are instead moved into the jazz hands/cerata and make their way to the fingertips. Here, the stings are stored for use against predators. They are even more effective (painful) than they were on the Portuguese Man o' War, since the Blue Sea Slug can select the very best ones and leave the less developed ones alone. Thai Cuisine Vol. 1 Thai cuisine is the national cuisine of Thai land. Blending elements of several Southeast Asian traditions, Thai cooking places emphasis on lightly prepared dishes with strong aromatic components. The spiciness of Thai cuisine is wel l known. Thai cuisine is more accurately described as four regional cuisines corresponding to the four main regions of the country: Northern, Northeastern (or lsan), Central, and Southern, each cuisine sharing similar foods or foods derived from those of neighboring countries and regions: Burma to the northwest, the Chinese province of Yunnan and Laos to the north, Vietnam and Cambodia to the east and Malaysia to the south of Thailand. In addition to these four regional cuisines, there is also the Thai Roya l Cuisine which can trace its history back to the cosmopolitan palace cuisine of the Ayutthaya kingdom. Its refinement, cooking techniques and use of ingredients were of great influence to the cuisine of the Centra l Thai plains. Western influences from the l 7th century C E onwards have also led to dishes such as foi thong and sangkhaya. Thai cuisine and the cu linary traditions and cuisines of Thai land's neighbors have mutually influenced one another over the course of many centuries. Regiona l variations tend to correlate to neighboring states (often sharing the same cultural background and ethnicity on both sides of the border) as well as cl imate and geography. Southern Thai curry tend to contain coconut milk and fresh turmeric, while northeastern dishes often include lime juice. The cu isine of Northeastern (or lsan) Thailand is similar to southern Lao cuisine whereas northern Thai cuisine shares many dishes with northern Lao cuisine and the cuisine of Shan state in Bu rma. Many popular dishes eaten in Thailand were origina lly Chinese dishes which were introduced to Thailand mainly by the Teochew people who make up the ma jority of the Thai Chinese. Such dishes include chok (rice porridge), kuai-tiao rat no (fried rice-noodles) and khao kha mu (stewed pork with rice). The Chinese also introduced the use of a wok for cooking, the technique of deep-frying and stir-frying dishes, and noodles, oyster sauce and soybean products. Egyptian Journalist Ati Metwaly won the CNN African Journalist Award 2016 in Culture , beating 38 finalists from 14 countries. She received an award for her story 'Music against all odds' published in AI Ahram Weekly in November 2015. Metwaly was the only journalist from Egypt and one of two journalists from North Africa shortlisted for the award last July. The gala award ceremony took place in Johannesburg, South Africa. Established in 1995, the award currently includes 14 categories with the objective of reinforcing the importance of the role of journalists in Africa's development and to reward , recognize and encourage journalistic talent across all media disciplines.

British Guild of Travel Writers' The Sinai Trail (represented on the ceremony by Sheikh Ahmed Abu Rashid) was named one of the best new tourism projects at the prestigious British Guild of Travel Writers' annual awards attended by top Egyptian officials. Winning in the 'Wider World Category,' Egypt's Sinai Trail was recog nized for its ability to change perceptions of the Sinai. "As well as presenting some good news after five years of political turmoil and revolution, this trail also helps document the Sinai's traditional Bedouin knowledge, a rich, still-largely unwritten chapter of our human past," said the BGTW about the Sinai Trail.
