The neo-renaissance City Hall in the town centre. Revitalized autumn 2011. The angel looking down on the town square was made by Jerzy Chalupec - father of Pola Negri.

Things to see

The oldest building in the city is the Gothic church founded in 1388. The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church has been rebuilt several times, currently with the baroque interior (of the 18th century). The main altar with the painting of Virgin Mary was created by Wojciech Gerson. In summer 2012 the District Council House regained its former appearance from the 1920's. Today the Municipal Cultural Center and the Public Library are located within its premises.

A statue of St. Anthony located on the hill named after the patron has a special meaning for the people of Lipno and the neighboring communities. There are also taking place annual pilgrimages with relics of the saint. The monument is a part of larger green area called Gabriel Narutowicz City Park with recreational facilities and a stylish (restored) wooden gazebo.

The modernistic architecture cinema “Nawojka” was founded in 19th century. Inside the gallery of film pictures, as well as Musem of Pola Negri.

Famous Lipno citizens Historical land called “Ziemia Dobrzyńska” gave birth to many great people. Nawojka was the first woman who, disguised as a boy, had graduated from the Academy of Krakow. Unfortunately she was exposed and sentenced to life in a secluded order by inquisition tribunal. Wincenty Rapacki was born in Lipno in 1840. He was famous as an actor, author and director of Dramatic Arts. The most renowned citizen of Lipno was undoubtedly Pola Negri (1897-1987), who is regarded as one of the greatest stars of silent movies. After her father's exile to Siberia, she moved with her mother to Warsaw, where she was educated by Honorata Leszczyńska, the daughter of Wincenty Rapacki. Her career developed rapidly and after having been recognized by German film industry, she pursued her American dream in Hollywood. Among other famous people who were born in the Lipno region are: President Lech Walesa (born in Popowo), professor Leszek Balcerowicz, Jerzy Pietrkiewicz i Henryk Czarnecki - known writers, Leszek Kolankiewicz - Jerzy Grotowski's assistant and professor Stanislaw Ossowski - sociologist and cultural theorist.

Events May/June Film Review "POLA AND OTHERS" The event promotes Pola Negri films by recalling her career achievements and rewarding other Polish artists, who have been successful beyond the borders of our country. The review is accompanied by exhibitions, recitals and contests. Silent movie with improvised live music, stage curtains in the color of red wine, subdued light coming from the lobby and fumes of freshly brewed coffee create an unique atmosphere, which attracts people from the remotest corners of Poland and Europe to Lipno.

June Lipno Days Lipno Days are celebrated on St. Anthony's day constituted by the Catholic Church. Attraction for people who want to travel back in time to the Middle Ages. During these days there is a lot of historical reconstruction events, chivalry tournaments and musical concerts .

August Motocross Since 1981 motocross has been held annualy, today regarded as one of the most important motocross events in Poland. Attracts the best players from Poland and from abroad. Each event brings thousands of fans together. In 2012 it was the first time the event 5th Polish Motocross Championship - had lasted two days.

August/September Festival "LIPA" - Rock Farewell to Summer Year after year the event gains more fans. It consists of two parts - music contest and stars’ concert. "LIPA" helps young talented people being recognized. This is possible because mostly festival is financed by private sponsors. Mayor of Lipno is a honorary patron of the event since its beginnings.

Sport

Large recreational offer is provided by city of Lipno (MOSiR - Sport and Recreation Centre). It governs: indoor swimming pool, Municipal Stadium named after Wieslaw Witecki and multifunctional sport objects ORLIK. These facilities allow residents and visitors to develop sport skills. Municipal "Mien” Sport Club has been operating since 1922. It attracts sport fans. Having in mind the future football players the Student Sport Club has been founded, currently very popular among young boys. Sport in Lipno means also motocross. What is more Kyokushin Karate Club has been bringing to our town the prestigious tournament awards since 1996.

Culture Promotion of culture in Lipno depends mainly on The Municipal Cultural Center (MCK) and the The Public Library. In Lipno rich cultural activity of NGOs is . In addition cultural life in Lipno concerns meetings with artist, art exhibitions, contests and photographic exhibitions. Polish music stars such as Goya, Stan Boris or Bracia gave concerts in Lipno.

Lipno has a rich educational offer. There are four elementary schools, three middle schools including one private. Educational institutions are also: Romuald Traugutt High-Shool Group, Military High-School, the Technical School and Dobrzyń Music School. The youngest residents of the city are provided with pre-school education in three public kindergartens,one private, three points of preschool. Recently a nursery has been opened.

Briefly about the municipality

City of Lipno is the seat of Lipno district and the largest urban area. The biggest asset of Lipno is its central location in a country with the route No. 10, linking the West of the country (Szczecin-370 km) with Warsaw (160 km). This route also connects the city with A1 motorway Lubicz junction (Łódz - Gdańsk) - 40 km. Another convenient connection is route No. 67 connecting Lipno to the Southern part of the region (Wloclawek) and the A1 motorway (Kowal junction 40 km). Lipno is a railway station for the Toruń - Sierpc line with a freight side track. . An equally important advantage of Lipno is its close location of Toruń (50 km) and Ciechocinek (60 km). Since 1997 Toruń has been one of the twelve objects in Poland, that were distinguished with the entry onto the UNESCO World Heritage List. The city owes its unique character first and foremost to its perfectly preserved historical buildings. Ciechocinek is one of the most important and the most popular health resorts in Poland. It is famous for the biggest in Europe wooden graduation towers and the climate pleasant for visitors and favorable to health and rest.
