Fitness

Northwest Suburbs of Chicago and has been practicing Yoga for the past 4 years. Laura played high level sports, including ice hockey at the University level. Injuries led her to deepen her Yoga practice and later became a 200 RYT with Yoga Alliance. She received her teaching in Vancouver, British Columbia while attending school there. Her teaching style is very relaxed and fun, and ranges from slower movements to some more advanced poses, leaving room for creativity and personal growth.

We are very proud to introduce our new Fall/Winter Dance Instructor “Becky Mikos”. Becky has over 7 years of dance teaching experience ranging from ages 3 to 93! She has taught in Crystal Lake, Chicago, Seattle, and Washington D.C. Becky has completed two teaching methods courses as a part of her BFA Degree in Ballet and Modern Dance which she earned from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth TX. ABOUT OUR NEW YOGA INSTRUCTOR: Laura Jordan Laura grew up in the

Storytime Dance Class #235-01 (ages 3-5) Sat. 10:45 -11:30 a.m.

Designed for students aged 3-5. Storytime Dance will begin with stretches and a few basic ballet positions and movements. We will read a story as part of the class, and then students will use their imaginations to dance as characters or aspects of the story.

Pre-Ballet Class #235-02 (ages 5-7) Sat. 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

For young dancers with little to no experience, Pre-Ballet will include stretches and will expand upon ballet positions, movements and terminology learned in Storytime Dance. Aspects of dance history may be included. For example, we will learn about or watch a short section of the ballet “Sleeping Beauty,” then learn a dance based on, or inspired by, the ballet studied.

Level l Class #235-03 (ages 7-9) Sat. 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.

For beginners, Level 1 will consist of mostly structured ballet curriculum, with aspects of dance history included. For example, we will learn about or watch a short section of the ballet “Sleeping Beauty,” then learn a dance based on, or inspired by, the ballet studied. Aspects of Character style dancing may also be included. For example, we may watch a portion of a popular film (Mary Poppins, Hairspray, etc.) then do a dance with movements stylized to fit the genre of dance in the film.

Level ll Class #235-04 (ages 10-13) Tues. 4:45 – 5:45 p.m.

For beginning to intermediate students. Level ll will be half structured ballet class, and half jazz class. At this age, students can be introduced to the positions, movements, terminology, and combinations associated with both ballet and jazz technique. *could be split into two classes, Ballet ll and Jazz ll

Level lll Class #235-05 (ages 13+) Tues. 5:45 p.m. – 6:45 p.m.

For intermediate to advanced students. Level lll will be half structured ballet class, and half jazz class. Including stretches, positions, movements, terminology, and combinations, associated with both ballet and jazz technique. *could be split into two classes, Ballet lll and Jazz lll Teacher reserves the right to place students in levels based on a combined consideration of age, ability, and experience.

Half of the class will consist of practicing skills and the other half of the class will be playing game like settings. Last class will consist of playing an entire game of volleyball. This league is geared towards learning to enjoy the game and have fun.

OPEN GYM FOR TOTS & TODDLERS

During the winter months when the weather is inclement and your little ones are active, come and play with us. Parents are REQUIRED to stay and supervise. This is a great way to meet and visit with other parents. Open gym follows the school schedule, so if there is no open school there is no open gym. Open gym may have to be cancelled at times when special events will be taking place. Open gym will start the October 7th.

History: The Taekwondo is one of the newest Olympic Sports and about 2000-year old martial art, originated from India and developed in Korea. Who we are: This program is offered by K. H. GENERAL INFORMATION All registrations are processed on a first come-first serve basis. The department reserves the right to cancel or consolidate classes depending on registration. A full refund will be issued for all cancelled classes. All classes are held at the Island Lake Village Hall, 3720 Greenleaf Avenue, except as noted in course descriptions. All participants must register through the Parks and Recreation Department, payment must accompany registration.

PHOTO RELEASE During the session, there may be times when participants will be photographed. These photos may be used for decorating our bulletin board or other publicity purposes, as well as appear in our Recreation Guides. If you do not wish photos to be taken, please inform the Recreation Administrator.

LATE PICK UP PROCEDURES Parks and Recreation Staff cannot be responsible for children who are not picked up on time. Offenders will be charged $15 for every 15 minutes of tardiness, payable before the child can return to class.

REFUNDS All Recreation classes are run depending upon enrollment. If the Recreation Department cancels a class, a full refund will be issued. All refunds requested must be in writing and are subject to a $20 handling fee. If you choose to keep the credit on your account, the fee will be waived. NO REFUNDS are given after class begins. Refunds are processed through the Village’s Administrative Department and may take 4-6 weeks to be mailed.
