MAJOR PROJECTS We are investing in the future with more than $13.5 billion in major infrastructure projects planned, underway or recently completed, including a Light Rail network; an integrated health and knowledge precinct; and world class sporting infrastructure in preparation for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth GamesTM (GC2018). Major road and rail transportation are connecting the city’s education, business, health and entertainment precincts and increasing investment opportunities in the city.
G: Link Light Rail With 16 stations and a 13-kilometre dedicated light rail corridor linking Griffith University to Broadbeach, stage one became operational in 2014. The Gold Coast Light Rail is a $1.6 billion public private partnership with Goldlinq securing the rights to build and operate the system. Gold Coast Chinatown Currently under construction, the $6.8 million Chinatown precinct is an integral part of the development of the CBD as a thriving, multi-cultural city centre. Chinatown is being developed in partnership with the community, private sector and government. It will offer an authentic Asian experience and create a unique destination. Focused on Young and Davenport Streets in the CBD, Chinatown will be a destination along the G: Link light rail corridor that provides a place for the Gold Coast to celebrate its diversity through culture, design, people and food. At the heart of Chinatown will be an exciting mix of restaurants, cultural festivals and boutique retail offerings; a place of cultural indulgence and celebration. This modern representation of Chinatown will embody the Gold Coast spirit, encourage Asian tourists and foster international relationships. Chinatown will contribute to our strengths as a diverse tourism city and as a destination in which to live, do business, be entertained and educated. Chinatown will provide a sense of home to the strong Chinese and other Asian communities that permanently reside on the Gold Coast, including international students, and become a place of interest for the growing number of Chinese visitors.

UNDERTAKING DEVELOPMENT WITHIN CITY OF GOLD COAST Development Application In order to carry out certain types of developments, an application may need to be made for a development permit. The authority responsible for issuing a development permit is the Local Government – Council of the City of Gold Coast. In addition to a development permit you may require additional approvals from State and Federal Government such as Foreign Investment Review Board approval. Depending on the type of development proposed, the application may require information about what the development will look like when complete, the materials to be used, and any impacts the proposed development may have on the surrounding environment. Key development application steps include: • preparation • application/lodgement • information request (if necessary) • referrals • public notification • assessment and decision • appeal Should the site already have a development approval in place you may be permitted to undertake changes to the existing approval. Further discussion on any proposed changes would need to be undertaken with Council of City of Gold Coast.

Gold Coast CBD highlights The City of Gold Coast is working to revitalise Southport as the Gold Coast’s vibrant and dynamic CBD, with the recent declaration of Southport as a Priority Development Area (PDA). The PDA will remove barriers and provide assistance for developers, paving the way for new, streamlined business and development opportunities. Under the Southport PDA, the City of Gold Coast has earmarked opportunities for development of land within the Gold Coast CBD that focus on developing a world-class urban space and provide greater economic outcomes for the city. Along with the PDA declaration, the revitalisation of Southport is being driven by $5 billion in public and private infrastructure investment. Investment to date includes the development of the Gold Coast Light Rail, with four stations servicing the CBD and providing connections to the greater city transportation network, Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct, Gold Coast University Hospital and private hospital, Griffith University, Gold Coast Chinatown, Southport Broadwater Parklands, Gold Coast Aquatic Centre, Gold Coast Institute of TAFE redevelopment and sporting and cultural facilities for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth GamesTM.
