Introduction to the company.
The company “CONSTRUCCIONES MIGUEL MADRID E HIJOS S.A.” was established in 1979 with the merger of two building contractors (Mr. Gregorio Romero Rodriguez and Mr. Miguel Aguilar Madrid) whose experience performing works dated back to the years 1958 and 1964 respectively. This antiquity guarantees the experience and knowledge of the profession of construction by the company. In 1995, Mr. Miguel Aguilar Madrid became the only administrator and from 1999 the company gets its present denomination, when the second generation, his sons, joined the company. The basic activity of the company, from the beginning, is based on the performance of construction, refurbishing and maintenance in different public and private buildings and civil works of a wide range of types. The main work areas of the company can be classified into: Healthcare Facilities: Several hospitals and medical centers around the South-West of Spain like Hospital Virgen de la Arrixaca (Murcia), Hospital Los Arcos del Mar Menor (San Javier), Hospital Reina Sofia (Murcia), Hospital de la Cruz Roja-Red Cross (Murcia) have been improved, modernised and extensed for the last years with our works and services. Army and Defense Facilities: Academia General del Aire (General Air Academy) in San Javier– Murcia, Base Aérea (Air Force Base) in Alcantarilla-Murcia. Transport Facilities: various kind of works, from expansion and reform works to maintenance services, in public civil airports located in Málaga, Almería, Murcia, Alicante, Valencia, Barcelona and Gerona. Religious Buildings: there have been made several restorations projects inside and outside in temples for the Diócesis de Cartagena-Murcia (Catholic Diocese of Cartagena-Murcia) in the towns of Roda, San Javier, Dolores de Pacheco (Cartagena), Santomera, Avileses and La Pinilla.

Fitting room for the installation of a FLAP PANEL SIEMENS at Hospital Virgen de la Arrixaca, in El Palmar-Murcia 2008. The company has a wide experience in multi-locate equipment rooms for imaging and nuclear medicine.
In these facilities, the company performs the leaded of coatings or “Faraday cages” necessary for the proper functioning of the equipment.

The work ranged from the construction of the room where the machine will be located to the installation of the same. When a room is packed for this type of medical machinery, taking care of every detail according to the strict specifications of the manufacturer is completely necessary.

The works included the interior restoration of the bell tower with the main purpose to restore the brick and masonry to its primitive splendor. The renovation of the interior of the tower had as main labours: removing existing gypsum plaster on the walls, uncovering, cleaning and exposing the existing masonry full view by using grouted with lime mortar, white sand from certain quarries and special white cement.

During the restoration work, it was necessary to replace some elements that were too eroded by new ones by using construction techniques that equal the initial builders to give the appearance that there has not been any replacement. In other situations, the high cost of repairing some elements led to not to restore them, but to rebuild them instead, according to the same existing materials, as in the case of the plaster in the ceiling vaults using aged brick with plaster paste brown.

The restoration works included the formation of a new floor for the bells chamber with wooden beams and old brick ceiling, and strengthen the anchoring of the bells.

Occasionally, “new” materials were used with the intention of increasing the contrast with the old.
Partial demolition of the wall parapets of the stairs and subsequent replacement by adding new varnished fir handrail.

The church had serious moisture problems due to the advanced deterioration of its cover. At the same time, the appearance of the façace needed to be revamped.
