Introduction The purpose of this six-book series is to help Spanish speakers improve their English writing skills. The series uses a structured and systematic approach to teach the different writing skills. English Writing Composition for the Spanish Speaker Book 5 includes instruction and practice for writing simple, compound and complex sentences. It also provides instruction and practice for writing informative, operational, persuasive, and contrast/comparison essays. At the end of the book are the translations for the Spanish directions.

English Writing Composition for the Spanish Speaker is an excellent series to use with English Reading and Spelling for the Spanish Speaker and English Reading Comprehension for the Spanish Speaker series because the books in all three series use the same vocabulary. Use English Writing Composition for the Spanish Speaker Book 5 after completing English Reading and Spelling for the Spanish Speaker Book 5. By the time students finish the six-book writing series, they will be able to compose informative, operational, persuasive and contrast/comparison essays. As with all skills, it takes practice, practice and more practice to become proficient in writing. English Writing Composition for the Spanish Speaker series provides the practice and information Spanish speakers need to improve their English writing composition skills. Adjectives * Adjetivos Vuelva a escribir las siguientes oraciones usando dos adjetivos que describan los sustantivos subrayados. Nouns in a Series * Sustantivos en serie Cuando se listan varias palabras en una oración, se les denomina “palabras en serie”. Las palabras pueden ser sustantivos, adjetivos, verbos o adverbios. Appositives * Apositivos Un apositivo es una palabra o palabras que repite al sujeto o al objeto de una manera diferente. Ejemplo:

Thomas Jefferson, el tercer presidente de los Estados Unidos, envió a Lewis y a Clark a explorar la compra de Luisiana. Cuando no es necesario un apositivo para conocer al sujeto o al objeto, debe estar separado por comas.

Ejemplo:

Mi amiga María se rompió la muñeca el jueves. Cuando es necesario un apositivo para conocer al sujeto o al objeto, no debe estar separado por comas. En esta oración, probablemente el escritor tiene más de una amiga, así que es necesario añadir su nombre para indicar al lector cuál amiga se rompió la muñeca.
