INTERNSHIPS Mission: Artists Repertory Theatre challenges artists and audiences with adventurous and provocative plays staged in an intimate environment. Artists Rep feeds our community’s artistic soul with premieres, reimagined classics, new play development and educational outreach. Why intern at Artists Repertory Theatre: An internship at Artists Repertory Theatre is a valuable bridge between your academic and professional careers. It enables you to meet and work with some of the best artists, craftsmen, and administrators in a creative and supportive environment. The relationships you build during your internship can lead to future employment, professional associations, and even life-long friendships. Because we want you to be involved in and exposed to theatre, you receive complimentary tickets to all Artists Repertory Theatre performances as well as the opportunity for discounted tickets to other area theatres. You can also receive college credits, as arranged by your college or university. About us: Established in 1982 by a group of six artists looking for an opportunity to present the work of contemporary playwrights, Artists Repertory Theatre has grown from an upstart theatre company putting on plays at the YWCA to an artistic beacon and stalwart member of the Portland arts community. The theatre now operates under an annual budget of more than $2 million, is governed by a 15-member Board of Trustees, employs a year-round staff of 20, has a 4-person Resident Acting Company, and engages more than 100 artists in order to produce the 6-8 plays that reach almost 50,000 patrons each season. Recently, our facility has become home to 8 other arts organizations, as well. We now house Portland Shakespeare Project, Profile Theatre, Polaris Dance Theatre, Travelling Lantern Theatre Company, Portland Area Theatre Alliance, Portland Revels, and The Red Door Project. Engaging our audience is essential to Artists Rep. Not only do our patrons have access to our creative staff—through enrichment activities like post-show talks, discussion panels, workshops, and fun activities—but also we strive to produce the highest caliber thought-provoking plays, including awardwinning works and world premieres. Artists Rep offers art that questions assumptions and biases, sometimes pushing our audience’s comfort zones emotionally, intellectually, and physically. With two intimate, three-quarter-thrust stages, the 165-seat Morrison Stage and the 220-seat Alder Stage, Artists Rep demands creativity and resourcefulness in all our design and production elements, maximizing emotional impact while utilizing minimal time and space. This bridges the divide between the audience and the play, creating a richer, more immediate, theatre experience for our audiences. As Portland’s longest-running professional theatre, Artists Repertory Theatre is dedicated to enhancing the artistic culture of the Pacific Northwest through its diverse productions and imaginative educational programming.
