Director General, Robert T. Huang/Entrepreneurship Center of Kyushu University (QREC) Professor & Deputy Director General, Art, Science Technology Center for Cooperative Research, Kyushu University (KASTEC) Professor Toru Tanigawa joined the Japan Development Bank (currently the Development Bank of Japan) in 1973. As a member of the bank, he was involved in various kinds of activities, including credit analysis, management planning, and international affairs (his assignments include Executive Director of the Los Angeles office of the bank). After he left the bank in 2000, he went to the United States as a Visiting Scholar at Stanford University, where he conducted a study on business incubation mechanisms and industry-academia collaboration systems in Silicon Valley. While he was there, he also worked on establishing a support organization for entrepreneurs, and acted as an advisor to start-up companies. In 2003, he assumed the position of Professor at Kyushu University. Professor Tanigawa took the lead at the university in building industry-academia collaborations, one of which was the Intellectual Property Management Center of Kyushu University. He has been in charge of the establishment of QREC, the entrepreneurship education and research organization, since 2009. Professor Tanigawa s fields of specialization are regional economic policy, entrepreneurship, and industry-academia collaboration. Professor Tanigawa graduated from the Faculty of Law, Kyoto University. He is a member of the board of directors of the Japan Society for Science Policy and Research Management.

Dr. Robert T. Huang (USA) Founder & Former Chairman, Synnex Corporation Chairman, ThreePro Group Inc. Dr. Robert T. Huang found SYNNEX in 1980. Dr. Huang served as SYNNEX's President and CEO from the corporation's inception until November 30, 2008. He retired as Chairman of the Board of Directors in 2010. During his 30 year tenure leading SYNNEX, he grew the company to $8 billion in annual revenue and achieved a top 300 ranking in the Fortune 500 company. Dr. Huang holds a bachelor's in electrical engineering from Kyushu University, Fukuoka, Japan, a master's in electrical engineering and statistics from the University of Rochester, NY, a master's in management science from the Sloan School of Management at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and an honorary doctorate degree from Kyushu University. He was elected by Computer Reseller News as one of the 25 most influential executives in computer industries and inducted to CRN's Industry Hall of Fame in November of 2004. Dr. Huang serves on the Advisory Board of Sloan School of Management at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is a Kyushu Fellow, and contributed to the founding of Kyushu University Robert T. Huang Entrepreneurship Center (QREC). Dr. Huang was born in Taiwan.

Dr. Poh Kam Wong (Singapore) Professor, School of Business of National University of Singapore (NUS) Director, NUS Entrepreneurship Center Adjunct Professor, NUS Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy Dr. Poh Kam Wong is concurrently a Professor at the School of Business, as well as Adjunct Professor for NUS Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy . He has published in numerous international refereed journals on innovation policy, industrial and competitiveness policy and technology entrepreneurship, and has also consulted widely for international agencies such as the World Bank and Asian Development Bank, various government agencies in Singapore such as A*STAR, EDB and IDA, and many high tech firms in Asia. An entrepreneur who co-founded three companies prior to joining academia, he is now an active angel investor and/or board member of several high tech start-ups in Silicon Valley, Singapore, China and Malaysia. He was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at U.C. Berkeley and a visiting researcher at Stanford University and KTH, Sweden. He received a Public Administration Medal (Bronze) from the Singapore Government in 2005.

Dr. Ashir Ahmed (Bangladesh) Associate Professor,Department of Advanced Information Technology, Kyushu University Director at Global Communication Center Project, Grameen Communications Dr. Ashir Ahmed was born in Bangladesh. His research aims to produce and promote ICT based social services for the unreached community in the world. In 2007, he joined Kyushu University as a guest associate professor under the research superstar program by Japan Science and Technology Agency. Through this program, he developed a joint collaboration with Grameen and Kyushu University and produced numerous international projects e.g. GramWeb (a village information platform), ePassbook (an electronic gadget for unreached community), $300 portable clinic and IGPF (Income Generation Project for Farmers using ICT). Inside Kyushu University, he developed a team of multi-disciplinary researchers which ultimately produced two research organizations e.g. GCL (Grameen Creative Lab) and GTL (Grameen Technology Lab) in 2009. In 2003 to 2006, Dr. Ashir Ahmed worked for NTT Communications to develop SIP based applications for home electronic devices. In 2000-2002, he worked as an MTS1 in Avaya Labs, Japan to R&D Avaya s SIP based products for Japanese market. Dr. Ashir Ahmed received his Ph.D. in Information Sciences from Tohoku University in 1999.

Mr. Sungene Ryang (USA) The Managing Director of IDEO Asia, Associate Partner at IDEO Mr. Sungene Ryang leads the IDEO Asia (Tokyo) team in helping its startup, small- to medium- sized enterprise, and multinational clients define new offers and opportunity areas, foster creativity within individuals and organizations, and deliver innovation both inside and outside of Japan. Before founding the IDEO Tokyo office, Mr. Sungene Ryang was part of the leadership team of the Consumer Experience practice in IDEO s Palo Alto office, where he led the group s business in East Asia and served as a catalyst for IDEO s subsequent work in the region. Mr. Sungene Ryang has a proven track record in developing and launching new businesses for large corporations as well as start-up organizations, having successfully launched one of the first Internet companies in China and spun-off business initiatives for conglomerates in the US, Europe and Asia. Prior to joining IDEO, Mr. Sungene Sungene worked as a senior strategist with Samsung and British Telecom, where he specialized in value creation and led new growth and innovation initiatives in emerging markets He is currently also serving as an Adjunct Associate Professor at Kyoto University.

Dr. Peter McGrory (Finland) Professor at Aalto University School of Arts, Design Dr. Peter McGrory is a professor of Design Management, Head of the Industrial and Strategic Design Program, Director, International Design Business Management (IDBM) Program at the Aalto University School of Art and Design. Along with his position, Dr. Peter McGrory s research interests involve, amongst others, exploring the breadth and strategic potential of integrated platform strategies as the basis for gaining and sustaining competitive advantage in international markets. In the past years, Dr. Peter McGrory has worked for several design consultancies and business / manufacturing organizations in Europe and the United States designing and managing a variety of consumer and capital goods products and projects for companies such as Logstrup (DK), Morphy - Richards (UK), Hamilton Beach (USA), Glen Dimlex (IRL), Leyland - Daf and Shell Oil (UK). Dr. Peter McGrory received his undergraduate degree in Industrial Design from the NCAD Dublin in 1986, and master degree in Design Leadership from UIAH Helsinki in 1992.

Speaker DAY2 Dr. Huang, ChingYao (Taiwan) Associate Professor, Department of Electronics Engineering Managing Director of Industrial-Academia Collaboration Center Director of Technology Licensing Office and Incubation Center / National Chiao Tung University (NCTU) Dr. Huang, ChingYao is a leader of university- Industry collaboration (UIC) activities at National Chiao Tung University in Taiwan. He has conducted UIC related entities such as Industrial-Academia Collaboration Center, Technology Transfer Office and Business Incubation Center since 2007. Thanks to his leadership, NCTU became top ranked university in UIC activities, Taiwan. He teaches ICT at Department of Electronics Engineering as associate professor and has expanded UIC activities of NCTU not only inside Taiwan, but also overseas companies or universities. Dr. Huang graduated from national Taiwan University (B.S. in physics) and got degree in Electrical Engineering in US (M.S.E.E. at New Jersey Institute of Technology, Ph.D. at Rutgers University). He spent several years at AT&T or Lucent Technologies as senior engineer and a consultant at ITRI. He has achieved a lot of awards in his research and educational activities in Taiwan and US. Currently, he is focusing on entrepreneurship education using university incubators supported by private firms, such as Foxconn Technology Group. Dr. ChingYao Huang is one of Innovation leaders in Taiwan.

Dr. Shigeo Kagami (Japan) Professor & General Manager, Science Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development (SEED) of Division of University Corporate Relations (DUCR) at the University of Tokyo Dr. Shigeo Kagami has been Professor and General Manager ‒ Science Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development (SEED) of Division of University Corporate Relations (DUCR) at the University of Tokyo since 2004. He joined the university in 2002 as a faculty member at Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Before he joined the University of Tokyo, he had been a strategy and management consultant and an executive search consultant for more than 17 years. His professional experiences include a consultant at Boston Consulting Group, a founding partner of Corporate Directions, Inc. (CDI), and a partner of Heidrick & Struggles. Dr. Kagami is a graduate of Hitotsubashi University (BA in Commerce) and earned his MBA from IMEDE (currently IMD), and completed his doctoral work in management at Case Western Reserve University (U.S.A.). Dr. Kagami is responsibilities for Entrepreneurship education and its student business plan competition. Also, he is in charge of nursing university startups from Tokyo University. Dr. Kagami is a director of the Japan Academic Society for Ventures and Entrepreneurs (JASVE).

Dr. Ken Endo (Japan) Associate Researcher, Sony Computer Science Laboratories Leader, See-D Contest / Managing Director, D-Leg / Lecturer, MIT D-lab Ken Endo received BS and MS degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Keio University. In 2005, he began work on human biomechanics and development of transtibial prosthesis as a PhD student in the Media Lab's Biomechatronics group; he received his PhD in 2012. At the same time, He taught a course, Developing World Prosthetics, to develop orthopedic devices for developing countries as an instructor of MIT D-lab. Currently, Endo works on human physical augmentation with robotic technology as an associate researcher at Sony Computer Science Laboratories. He is also a co-founder and director of a non-profit organization, D-Leg, and leader of See-D Contest which coordinate a education program and business plan contest of appropriate technologies in undeveloped countries. He was chosen as one of the world s 35 most outstanding innovators under the age of 35 by Technology Review in 2012.

Mr. Daniel Bantel (Germany) Organizer, Startup Weekend Dusseldorf Startup Weekends are weekend-long, hands-on experiences where entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs can find out if startup ideas are viable. Startup Weekends are all about learning through the act of creating. They are kinds of educational projects for who would like to start new businesses. On average, half of Startup Weekend s attendees have technical or design backgrounds, the other half have business backgrounds. eginning with open mic pitches on Friday, attendees bring their best ideas and inspire others to join their team. Over Saturday and Sunday teams focus on customer development, validating their ideas, practicing LEAN Startup Methodologies and building a minimal viable product. On Sunday evening teams demo their prototypes and receive valuable feedback from a panel of experts. Startup Weekends were held in more than 140 cities and over 900 times in the world. Mr. Daniel Bantel is the Organize of Startup Weekend Dusseldorf. He will talk about the concept of Startup Weekend and indicate usefulness for entrepreneurship education.

Mr. Shingo Igarashi (Japan) Associate Professor & Deputy Director General, Robert T. Huang/Entrepreneurship Center of Kyushu University (QREC) Mr. Shingo Igarashi graduated from Otaru University of Commerce in 1983. He earned an MBA degree from the Graduate School of Business Sciences, University of Tsukuba in 2005. Before he joined Kyushu University in 2005, he had worked for the UFJ Bank (currently called the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ). As a member of the UFJ Bank, he was engaged in research and analysis of high-tech start-ups, and supported them in their business expansion, providing support to more than 300 new companies. He has served as a board member of the Advisory Board of the Japan Entrepreneurship Education Network for Higher Education (Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry), and has solid experience in entrepreneurship education. Currently, he is a board member of the Japan Academic Society for Ventures and Entrepreneurs.
