Edinburgh, Scotland’s Capital, is like a kingdom from a fairytale with ancient buildings, castles and palaces, surrounded by blue sea, green hills, wooded parks and twisting rivers. It is a city alive with history, mythology and legend, with tales of battles won and battles lost, where witches, kings and ghosts rub shoulders with assassins, paupers and ordinary towns-folk. Today it is a World Heritage Site and home to the Scottish Parliament, five universities and the world’s largest art’s festival. There are endless opportunities for exploration and discovery and it is the ideal setting for young people to learn and practice English in a welcoming and safe environment.
Loretto School
The Berlitz Camp is based at Loretto , Scotland’s oldest boarding school, in the town of Musselburgh only 30 minutes from Edinburgh city centre. The school is set within its own secure and extensive grounds with separate accommodation blocks, classrooms, dining hall, chapel, theatre and playing fields. Loretto School pupils are on holiday during the months of July and August which allows us at Berlitz to use the school facilities for our summer camp.
‘I had a fantastic time in Edinburgh. The camp was great fun and the teachers were brilliant. I used English every day and made lots of new friends.’ Anna Fischer - Germany

Loretto School is in the small, historic, coastal town of Musselburgh on Edinburgh’s eastern edge There are a good range of shops and cafes as well as beach and river walks nearby . The school is set in its own grounds and has both indoor and outdoor sports facilities including extensive grassy areas and a fully equipped gymnasium. There are opportunities for football, basketball, tennis and baseball as well as many other games and activities that are organized by the Berlitz staff. There is also a theatre on the campus as well as large indoor spaces for big group events such as dances.
Berlitz students have their own accommodation blocks with room sizes between one to four beds. Male and female areas are separate as are student and staff areas. The accommodation blocks also have areas where students can relax, play games, watch films or simply chat to their friends. The dining hall is close by and serves good quality, healthy food with a good choice of hot meals. Breakfast, lunch and the evening meal are all taken in the dinning hall.

Our Experience
The Berlitz International Summer Camp is a British Council Accredited language school.
At all stages of your child’s stay in Edinburgh their safety and well being, both physical and emotional are our first priority.
The focus of our teaching is to improve all aspects of our student’s English language skills and to improve their confidence and ability in using English.
Berlitz have been organising and running international language study programmes for many years now and our experience helps us to ensure the success and quality of the camps.
This means that we are regularly inspected by an independent organisation , The British Council, to ensure that our standards and quality meet a set of stringent criteria. The criteria apply especially to: • Appropriately qualified teachers • Teaching which meets specific standards • Accommodation which is regularly inspected and meets the standards • 24- hour supervision of juniors • Safe premises, with properlyequipped classrooms and areas for relaxation • Proper emergency procedures, known to staff and students. • Legal compliance
We ensure that all our staff are well trained, skilled and trustworthy individuals . Many of our staff members have worked for us for a long time and are well known to us and as a matter of policy we conduct background checks on all new employees.
Whatever activity your child is taking part in we make sure they are safe and secure and we are always at hand to help them if they encounter any difficulties or upsets. We have a series of procedures, policies and checks that exist to ensure all our students enjoy a rewarding and secure time during their stay in Edinburgh.
Our classes include input into building grammatical knowledge, as well as helping the students to become more fluent and accurate when speaking. We encourage them to use English whenever possible both in and out of the classroom. We link our class-room lessons to our social programme activities which helps to consolidate and build on the more formal teaching. The teaching and practice therefore continues outside of the class-room
We provide all of our staff with training before they start work with us and the training continues through their employment with us. Unlike many seasonal language schools a lot of our staff work with us year in and year out. This is because we run camps through the year and not just during the summer. Having experienced staff is an essential ingredient in the mix. We understand clearly the needs of younger learners and we spend a lot of time organising our camps to make sure that all of our students are catered for. We take into consideration all aspects of running camps for young people and we spend a lot of time organising in advance to ensure the success of the camps.

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” - Mark Twain
