Mr Jens Flarup Directo...
IDLS2012: Athens, Greece Tuesday 16th - Friday 19th October 2012
Background and History of IDLS • Brainchild of UK DPA and USN IPO
– Commercially initiated events were viewed as: • Very expensive • Poorly focused • Too frequent • Failed to attract the people who really needed to go • Co-managed by Government and Industry
– By the community, for the community • Level of global investment in Data Links warranted an annual international focus for networking and information exchange
• To deliver a well focussed, well managed, costeffective and well attended IDLS, thereby supporting the general international co-ordination objectives of the sponsor nations and the needs and aspirations of the wider international data links community
IDLSoc • International Data Link Society formed at IDLS 2003 • Incorporated as a not-for-profit company in CA, US • Provides continuity of support and focus to both the community generally and to IDLS: see www.idlsoc.com • Inexpensive to join • 700 individual members • 32 corporate members • Several national chapters e.g. UK, SE, AS/NZ, USA • Independent secretariat support • Member of the NCOIC

Safest approach – Live data is often unavailable/unreliable Reliability is key to demo and the exhibition There has been no decision on live capabilities Integrated with the main programme
• The aims are to : – – – – –
Bring in Operators/ Users / Government organisations Effectively showcase IDLS membership capabilities Have a common network, distributing operational data via JREAP. Have synthetic environments collaborating using DIS. To allow delegates to view equipment and capabilities when operating in a live/synthetic TDL environment
Security • Due to the fact that the MIDS terminals used for Link 16, as well as other equipment are categorised as CCI equipment, co-operation with a national or other crypto storage facility is essential.
