The OPAL plastic pipe collar is a powder coated mild steel or stainless steel casing containing OPAL graphite intumescent layers for Polypropylene, Polyethylene and ABS plastic pipes. OPAL intumescent is also suitable for uPVC pressure and non-pressure pipes. These layers expand at approximately 150oC to crush the softening plastic pipe and thereby close the penetrations through fire rated walls and floors.

and floors, OPAL fire collars have been tested at Warrington Fire Research Centre and Building Research Establishment Ltd. (BRE) to BS476 Part 20 1987 and Station d’essais CTICM 98-E-275 for wall collars and 98-H-276 for floor collars. OPAL fire collars meet both integrity and insulation requirements to this standard for both two and four hours, when surface mounted and cast in a concrete floor or in a masonry or blockwork wall.

The OPAL fire collars can be surface mounted and they can be cast in when fixing space is not available. Fixing is with non-combustible metal screws, anchor or cavity fixings.

Surface mounted to wall

The OPAL fire collar is fully tested for uPVC, Polypropylene, Polyethylene and ABS plastic pipes for both wall and floor penetrations.

Surface mounted to floor

The OPAL fire collar can be used through plasterboard, concrete, blockwork and brickwork constructions. The OPAL fire collar has achieved performance from 2 to 4 hours in tests to relevant British standards at approved laboratories. OPAL fire collars are available in all pipe sizes up to 315mm dia. (Remark: Size not mention may be Specially offered by the Manufacturer.)

BUILDING REGULATIONS To satisfy building regulation requirements on all penetrating fire rated compartment walls

Installation OPAL fire collars must be fitted on each side of a wall where both sides are at risk from fire. Penetrations through floors require an OPAL fire collar fitted to the underside only of each penetration. Non-flammable screws, anchor or cavity fixings must be used to secure OPAL fire collars to walls and floors.

The plastic bag with self adhesive tape is our original design for ease of installation. It can be removed away subject to project requirement. But our above required number of intumescent layers must be strictly followed and used to ensure the fire resistance performance.
