Installation and Operation Manual

Introduction Data Profiling is a capability that allows utility personnel to access and view customer water consumption data for further analysis by utility personnel. Data profile information is especially helpful when end water customers believe they are being billed for water they did not consume or when they wish to learn how to regulate consumption more effectively. Using Data Profiling, utility personnel can show customers their typical consumption patterns and explain how much water typical activities such as showering, washing clothes, or watering plants use.

Data Profiling Methods ORION offers two types of data profiling equipment. The first is the ORION Data Profile Transmitter which has been designed with the data profile feature built in to the transmitter itself. The second is the Remote Profiler, which is compatible with the ORION narrow band transmitters. The Remote Profiler is packaged in a separate, stand-alone enclosure. The Remote Profiler is moved from meter to meter, according to the needs of the utility and allows profile information to be extracted, even if your transmitters do not have the profiling option.

Handheld or Laptop Data Profile information is captured using ORION profiling extraction software running on a handheld device or a laptop computer.

Primary Profiling Activities There are two primary activities involved with Data Profiling: data retrieval and programming. Data retrieval is the process of extracting usage information from a meter. Programming erases an existing reading's record so a new record may be started.

About This Manual This manual is designed to help utility personnel employ data profiling using a laptop or handheld device that is running ORION profile extraction software.
