What Products Can be Used?
Secrets for shaping the face during the EVEN step
Contouring and highlighting products include all EVEN Step product categories. You can use any formula you prefer. Here are some Artistry® tips when choosing:
What is Contouring? Contouring means using products to accentuate or change the natural shape of a face—the contours—so they are more noticeable. Contouring is also known as “shaping” and “slimming.” It is often combined with highlighting techniques, which make parts of the face appear lighter and brighter. Customers may want to apply contouring and highlighting to their whole face or just to specific areas (e.g. make nose look more narrow, make cheekbones look more prominent).
How Does Contouring and Highlighting Work? All Artistry® Contouring and Highlighting Tips are Based on Understanding Light and Dark Facial contouring and highlighting follows the same shape-changing principles that you use with clothing. For example: black pants make you look slimmer, while white pants accentuate your curves. TECHNIQUES: 1. How to Naturally Contour Your Cheekbones and Jawline • Start by applying your perfect shade of Artistry Exact Fit® Powder Foundation all over the face. • To create a narrower shape to your face, use a shade of Artistry Exact Fit® Powder Foundation that is two levels deeper than your skin tone. • Apply the powder foundation with a brush. Start below cheeks; sweep the brush forward, starting at the ear, directly toward the corner of the mouth. • Sweep more of this deeper shade on temples and along jawline. • To seamlessly blend, follow with another application of Artistry Exact Fit® Translucent Pressed Powder to the top of your cheekbones and on brow bones. • Apply a light catching powder to the top of your cheekbones and above your brow bone.
3. Contouring and Highlighting with Liquid Foundation EXPERT TIP: Artistry® Concealer can also be used this way.
Contouring with Darker Foundation • Apply your liquid foundation as usual, using your favorite shade. • Select a shade of the same formula, two levels deeper than your shade. • Apply to area just under cheekbones (to locate, use the middle of the ear and the corners of your mouth as a guideline). Use your fingers, a foundation brush, or a makeup sponge. Sweep this shade from the middle of the ear toward corner of mouth. Be sure and blend the two shades together well so there are no hard lines. • To soften the jawline, apply the darker shade to the area just under your jaw, then blend to create soft contour. • To narrow a wide forehead, apply the dark shade to temples, then blend.
2. How to Contour Your Nose
Highlighting with Lighter Foundation Define the bridge of the nose, or narrow a wide nose and make it appear slimmer. • Select a powder foundation 2-3 shades darker than your foundation shade. Apply it to the tips of your index fingers. • Place fingertips on either side of bridge of nose (at inner corners of eyes), press lightly, and slide fingers straight down sides of nose.
• To create the look of natural highlights, select a shade of your liquid foundation that is two shades lighter than your shade. • Apply on the center of your forehead, to the tops of your cheekbones, and a thin line down the center of your nose and continue to the dent just above your upper lip. • Use a brush or sponge to blend well.
• Blend out any hard lines, and buff with loose powder to create a softer more natural definition.

Easy Eyelining • Using Artistry Signature Color® Longwearing Eye Pencil, line upper lash line first. Start at the inner corner of eye, work outward. • Use short, feathery strokes. Do not worry about creating a perfect line. • Smudge the line after application using the sponge end of Artistry Signature Color® Longwearing Eye Pencil. For longer wear, set in place by smudging a coordinating shade of eye shadow over top of the liner. • When finished, check the following: - Is your line a little above the lash line? If so, go back and fill in the gaps by smudging color down into the lashes.
- Is the line broken or crooked? If so, fill in the gaps to connect the line.

Basics of Eye Shadow Blending and Placement Here are the quickest ways to feel confident when applying Artistry Signature Color® Eye Shadow Quads: • Make sure the eye shadow is not applied past the outer corner of your eye. Keep the eye shadow inside the outer corner to add lift to your eye. • Make sure that you cannot see where one shade of shadow ends and another begins. Blending creates a soft and diffuse look. • Start with only a small amount of product on the applicator or eye shadow brush—it’s much easier to add shadow than it is to take it away. • To avoid redoing concealer, apply Artistry® Concealer and foundation after eye shadow. To collect extra eye shadow dust under the eye, first tap a small amount of an Artistry® eye cream under the eye; do not rub it in. Next, place a sponge over the area and press it into the skin. Goal: Lift the appearance of the eyes’ outer corners. • Apply a darker shade from an Artistry Signature Color® Eye Shadow Quads at the outer corner where the eye begins to droop. • Blend this color up and around into the crease to add a lift. • Apply Artistry Signature Color® Longwearing Eye Pencil to upper lids only; at outer corners, wing the eyeliner up slightly rather than follow the natural downward slope.
