I find it interesting that Jesus chose to enter His creation in the form of a baby. Most people like babies. We hold them, make funny sounds and try to get them to respond with a smile back at us. A baby is such a clear picture of a new beginning. As Jesus grew, He started a movement that changed the world. Time itself stands as a reminder that He is the centerpiece of all eternity. He is the dividing and defining moment of history. He calls for our trust, faith and allegiance to Him alone as our hope and security. In return, He promises us a world and life beyond our description. He offers us complete forgiveness and a forever friend in the Holy Spirit. As you celebrate this special season, I hope that you will see beyond the glitter, colored lights and beautiful wrapping to see Him again as the greatest gift ever given. He is here and He is still changing lives. I have enjoyed my service among the churches of Yates Baptist Association. Our Transition Team is close to a final document that will outline our journey together. It is intended to be both a unifying statement of commonly held beliefs and the five core values that YBA should focus on. There is still work that needs to be done in terms of implementation, but the purpose and intent should be clear. I commend you to the one that God has chosen to direct the work of Yates Baptist Association. Your next Director of Missions will be a blessed man. Beginning January 1, 2016, I will begin my service as Senior Pastor of Woodbine Baptist Church just north of Greensboro. I will conclude my official ministry among you December 31, 2015. I will be present at a couple of key events in the association in January. The Associational Board Meeting which will be on Tuesday, January 12 at 7:00 p.m. at Lakewood and at the Church Revitalization Forum to be held on Thursday, January 21 at 6:00 p.m. at Ridgecrest Baptist Church. Thanks again for the privilege of serving with you. Keep the momentum going forward so God’s kingdom will expand from the Durham area to the ends of the Earth. Merry Christmas! Thane Barnes, Associational Missions Consultant

The Associational Leadership Team and the Transition Team have been hard at work the past couple of months. We are excited to present to you all a single page document (below) that outlines the mission and ministry to pursue together in 2016. We welcome your thoughts which you can send to Teresa and she will compile them for the Leadership Team. We will present this document to the Association on January 12, 2016 at the quarterly meeting in order to affirm together the direction for 2016. Also at the quarterly gathering, we will discuss how we will move forward in partnership with the BSCNC for ongoing leadership until we complete the search for our Director of Missions. Please make every effort to attend the January 12, 2016 gathering at 7:00 p.m. at Lakewood Baptist Church, 2100 Chapel Hill Road, Durham NC 27707. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all this Christmas.
