EXPOSURE CONTROLS / PERSONAL PROTECTION

National Exposure Standards: No exposure standard has been established by NOHSC Australia for cadusafos or the other inert ingredients in this product. Biological Limit Values: This is an organophosphate pesticide and the NOHSC ‘Guidelines for Health Surveillance’ should be consulted for the requirements for Health Surveillance for organophosphate pesticides. Health surveillance includes Occupational and medical history; Physical examination; Baseline estimation of red cell; and plasma cholinesterase activity levels by the Ellman or equivalent method Estimation of red cell and plasm cholinesterase activity towards the end of the working day Engineering controls: Use in well ventilated area only. Use local exhaust at all process locations where dust may be emitted. Ventilate all transport vehicles prior to unloading. Personal Protective equipment (PPE): Work Clothing: Wear long-sleeved uniform of coveralls, head covering and impervious footwear. For large exposures (eg. Spills), wear full body cover barrier suit, such as a rubber rain suit. Launder all clothing before reuse (separately from household laundry). Leather items - such as shoes, belts, and watchbands - that become contaminated should be removed and destroyed. Eye Protection: If dust is present, wear chemical protective goggles or face shield. Respiratory Protection: For dust exposure, wear as a minimum, a properly fitted half-face or fullface air-purifying respirator which is approved for pesticides (Australian Standards). Gloves: Wear chemical protective gloves made of materials such as nitrile, Viton® brand or PVC when handling this product. Inspect regularly for leaks. Thoroughly wash the outside of gloves with soap and water prior to removal. Personal Hygiene: Clean water should be available for washing in case of eye or skin contamination. TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION

Potential Health Effects: Swallowed: This product is moderately toxic if swallowed. Cadusafos is a reversible cholinesterase inhibiting pesticide which elicits symptoms in humans typical of other cholinesterase inhibitors, including headache, weakness, abdominal cramps, nausea, excessive salivation, perspiration and blurred vision. More severe signs of cholinesterase inhibition include tearing, pinpoint pupils, excessive respiratory secretions, cyanosis, convulsions, generalised tremor and coma. Excessive exposure can result in death. Reduction of blood acetylcholinesterase levels can occur without symptoms of toxicity. Excessive cholinesterase inhibition can result in death. Acute oral LD50 (rat) = 666 mg/kg. Eye Contact: Minimally irritating to eyes. Product can be absorbed through the eyes. Skin Contact: This product has low toxicity by the dermal route. Symptoms of dermal overexposure are the same as if swallowed. With dermal exposure to Rugby® 100G, conditions of increased temperature and humidity facilitate skin absorption and, therefore, promote increased toxicity. The product is minimally irritating to the skin in laboratory animals. Acute Dermal LD50 (rabbit) > 2000 mg/kg Inhaled: The active ingredient in this product is toxic if inhaled. Symptoms of overexposure are the same as if swallowed. However, due to the nature of this product, ie a granular product, the hazard from inhalation is considerably reduced, an unlikely to be a source of exposure. Acute Inhalation LC50 (rat) = 0.032 mg/L/4 hr (Cadusafos Technical) Inhalation toxicity testing of this formulation is not able to be conducted as an aerosol cannot be successfully made from the granules. Chronic: No data available on this formulation. In studies with laboratory animals, Cadusafos Technical did not cause teratogenicity, reproductive toxicity, carcinogenicity. Chronic exposure of cadusafos to laboratory animals caused decreased erythrocyte and plasma cholinesterase activity levels. An overall lack of genotoxicity has been demonstrated in mutagenicity testing with cadusafos, although it did cause a positive response in the cell transformation assay, but only in the presence of metabolic activation.

SECTION 12

ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION

Environmental Properties: No data is available on Rugby 100G. Toxicity data is on the active constituent, Cadusafos. Cadusafos has a half-life in soil of approximately 45 days which varies with soil type. The hydrolysis half-life is between 29 and 35 days in the pH region of 5 to 9, but is more stable at neutral, than either acid or alkaline conditions. Cadusafos is moderately mobile in soil and has a Log POW of 3.9. This value, in association with a bioconcentration factor of 220, suggests that there will be little potential for bioaccumulation in the environment. Environmental Toxicology: With LC50 values of 1.6 µg/L to 170 µg/L, cadusafos is considered highly toxic to fish and aquatic arthropods. The aquatic arthropods are more sensitive than fish. Do not contaminate sewers, drains, creeks, dams or any waterways the product or used container. Cadusafos is moderately toxic to waterfowl (LD50 = 230 mg/kg, mallard), and highly toxic to upland game birds (LD50 = 16.4 mg/kg, bobwhite quail).
