INFERTILITY Infertility is incapability of the woman to conceive, after one year of regular sexual union without contraceptives, or to retain the fetus till childbirth is called as infertility. It is a problem, which not only affects the physical life of the woman but also disturbs the social and emotional life of the couple. The RUDRA’S Approach to Infertility The Rudra’s program for infertility is conducted under the supervision of an Ayurveda Health Consultant and draws on knowledge from Ayurveda, the world's oldest and most complete system of natural health care. Through its unique assessment of causal imbalances at the basis of a condition and its wide range of time-tested recommendations, Ayurveda provides the most comprehensive natural approach for infertility available today. Ayurveda Assessment of Balance and Imbalance in infertility According to Ayurveda, conception takes place due to healthy sperm, healthy ovum, and a healthy uterus. For both men and women, reproductive health depends on the health of the shukra dhatu, or reproductive tissue. In women the shukra tissue creates the ovum as part of the monthly cycle, and in men the semen is formed due to sexual stimulation. The shukra tissue itself is created as part of a long chain of metabolic transformations, starting with the digestion of food and including the transformation of food to nutrient fluid, blood, muscle, fat, bone, bone marrow and finally, to shukra tissue. Healthy shukra tissue, then, according to Ayurveda, depends on the health of all the other tissues in the body. The Root Causes of Infertility According to Rudra’s approach, the following general types of imbalances are responsible for chronic conditions, including infertility. While many of these factors do not directly involve reproductive organs the proper functioning of reproductive tissues is actually very dependent on minimizing these types of imbalances. 1. 2. 3. 4.

Toxins accumulating in tissues and blocking circulation. Poor nutrition. Poor digestion. Imbalance of the nervous system.

5. Accumulation of physical and mental stress. 6. Lowering of natural resistance and immunity. 7. Disruption of natural biological rhythms. The common modern medical approach to match drugs to symptoms does not completely address many of these factors. As a result, modern medicine often cannot fully remove the core problem and the condition becomes chronic. Chronic means that the condition persists over time even with the best modern medical treatment. Currently over 100 million Americans suffer from a chronic condition, indicating that some new approach is needed in our health care Factors Involved in Creating a Healthy Child According to Ayurveda, conception takes place due to healthy sperm, healthy ovum, and a healthy uterus. FEMALE FERTILITY The Ayurvedic view of the menstrual cycle: Average menses are considered to be 4-5 days, moderate flow, moderate colour, no clots and no discomfort. Kapha phase: End of bleeding until ovulation is a time of building the endometrium and increasing kapha. (Oestrogen is increasing). Pitta phase: Ovulation until bleeding. (Progesterone is high and is secreted by the corpus luteum prepares endometrium for implantation and breasts for milk secretion). Vata phase: Apana vayu (the downward descending wind) pushes the menstrum down and out, therefore emptying the contents of the womb. If there is any disturbance in these phases then they need to be balanced. The main problem with the female menstrual cycle is that the downward descending energy (apana vayu) is blocked. This causes all sorts of fluctuations from pain, bloating, dryness, anxiety, insomnia, scanty periods, irregular cycle, clots and infertility. The strategy is to first clear any obstructions and then to tonify with nourishing boosting herbs. A Natural Treatment Program for Infertility Following is a discussion of how The Rudra’s program for chronic conditions provides the most comprehensive set of natural recommendations available today to address the true causes of infertility.

These therapies not only effectively remove the imbalances at the basis of chronic disorders but also have no significant side-effects. The goal of this Ayurveda approach is to enliven the body's natural healing and self-repair ability not only to help restore fertility, but also to prevent disorders and create the highest state of health and well-being. The following comprehensive approach is considered crucial to removing infertility problems. According to Ayurveda, the body builds the essence of reproductive tissue function, sperm and ova, through a process that involves proper sequential functioning of all seven of its major tissues. Reproductive tissue function is at the end of this seven-step sequential transformation process. This means production of sperm and ova requires the good health of all the other tissues in the body. Lack of nourishment or blockage of proper transformations, in any of the seven tissues could result in disruption of reproductive tissue function. For this reason the comprehensive natural treatment approach described below is fundamental to restoring fertility in human functioning. 1) Removing the Buildup of Toxins and Impurities Most chronic disorders start when toxins accumulate in tissues and begin to disrupt the delicate biochemistry there. Toxin buildup can also obstruct the channels of circulation and elimination. This blockage prevents proper nutrition from reaching the tissues and blocks the processes that cleanse them of impurities. When this happens in reproductive tissues their ability to create healthy sperm and ova can be compromised. Your Ayurveda Health Consultant will provide natural recommendations to remove and help prevent toxin accumulation from: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

Foods poorly digested Poor digestion Poor elimination Improper metabolism Mental and physical stress

2) Creating Strong Digestion According to Ayurveda, good digestion and proper diet is especially important for fertility as sperm and ova are the end result of the proper nourishment of all the major tissues in the body. Poor nourishment of any single major tissue group could prevent the final product of their combined functioning, sperm and ova, from being produced properly. Our ability to properly digest food is as important as what specific food we eat. Incompletely digested foods create toxins and impurities that are eventually absorbed, travel throughout the physiology, localize in tissues and disrupt their functioning. This process plays a major role in a wide variety of chronic conditions, including infertility.

RUDRA’S KONCIV- INFERTILITY TREATMENTS Herbs are considered nutritional supplements in Ayurveda. Their purpose is to restore balance to the specific functioning modes whose malfunctioning is causing infertility. It belongs to Caesalpaeniaceae family. It is a very handsome, small, erect evergreen tree, with deep green foliage and very fragrant, bright orange-yellow flowers, which later turn red. The flowering season is around April and May. It is found in central and eastern Himalayas as well as on the west coast of Bombay. Ashoka is a Sanskrit word meaning without grief or that which gives no grief. Of course, the tree has many other names in local languages as well. One such name means the tree of love blossoms. The Hindus regard it as sacred, being dedicated to Kama Deva, God of Love. The tree is a symbol of love. Its beautiful, delicately perfumed flowers are used in temple decoration. There are also festivals associated with this flower. Lord Buddha was born under the Ashoka tree, so it is planted in Buddhist monasteries. The Vrikshadevatas--the gods of trees who represent fertility--are known to dance around the tree, and are worshipped by childless women. Herbally, the bark of this tree is a household remedy for uterine disorders. The essence also helps women to be fertile. It is said that 'weeping woman, weeping womb,' in that the woman's emotional state affects her reproductive organs. Therefore, the essence, like the herb, helps in the uterine problems like excessive bleeding, irregular menstrual periods and infertility. The dried bark of the tree constitutes the drug. The bark contains tannins and catechol. The powder of the bark contains silica, sodium, potassiom, phosphate, magnesium, iron, calcium, strontium and aluminium. A crystalline glycosidal substance has been isolated from the bark with galactose as the constituent sugar. Both the dried flowers of Ashoka and the bark have been used in Ayurveda for many centuries. The bark is prescribed in Ayurvedic medicine for arresting bleeding or secretion and as a uterine sedative. It is said to have a stimulating effect on the endometrium that is, the mucuous membrance lining the uterus and on the ovarian tissues. It acts directly on the muscular fibers of the uterus.
