Trail Boss’s Report Yetta Hey Princesses and Dads, It was great to see everyone at the spring campout’s. We had 209 dads and daughters at camp Fitch and 151 dads and daughters at camp Y-Noah. The weather turned out great at both camps. I did hear that a couple of cabins at Y-Noah had air conditioning “sounds like they were really roughing it”. I want to thank the Monarch Butterflies and the Zipping Zebras for putting on the Crooked River party’s at the camp. Good job guys everything tasted great. Congratulations to all the fishing derby winners and lip sync winners all the girls did a great job! Also a big thanks to our Firemakers Bernie and Ava Willoughby for putting on two great Council fires! I hope everyone made some lasting memories at camp whether it was doing a craft or one of the many activities throughout the day or just a walk on the beach with your daughter. There are a lot of fun events coming up this summer. The boat race and family picnic, Fourth of July Parade, Lake County Captains sleepover and the mid- summer fluff raid. What Outpost’s will challenge the Trail Bosses boat? The school year has just ended but we are looking forward to our annual recruiting for 2009. Phil Thorne will need as much help as he can get in order to cover all the school’s and get the word out about the Princess program. Please contact Phil to help out and to keep this organization growing. See you at the next event. Friends Always, Russ and Jessica Lakatos 2008 Trail Boss

Notes from your 2008 Assistant Trail Boss With the struggling economy and the high cost of fuel it is more important than ever that Fall 2008 is a very successful fund raising year in order to keep our event prices down to a minimum. Many of the Princesses families may be planning some home improvement projects, purchasing a new or used gas efficient car, or dealing with a business on a regular basis. In this issue of the Running Waters you will find the 2009 Program ad for Mardi gras party that we have every year. At this time we are only looking for new business that have not taken out an ad in last years program. In The fall of 2008 we will be soliciting those who have supported us before. Thank you Phil Thorne

Dear Business Owners, Outposts, and Friends of the Big Creek Frontier This is your opportunity to show your support of The Big Creek Frontier, Ridgewood YMCA Adventure Princesses The Big Creek Frontier, Ridgewood YMCA Adventure Princesses Organization is a non-profit group consisting of over 350 families in the Parma, Parma Hts., North Royalton, Seven Hills, Strongsville, and Middleburg Heights Communities. We are a father / daughter program sponsored by the YMCA since 1977. Our goal is to build a foundation of friendship and understanding between parent and child that can be built upon as the child grows and matures into adulthood. Our organization publishes a monthly newsletter and sponsors over 32 low cost events during the year, which serve as the vehicle through which the parent and child develop their relationship. In order to continue our success in accomplishing our goal we need donations from the community. It’s people, like you, and your companies that help support our organization and its goals. Our 31st Annual Princess Fundraiser Dance will be held on January 31st, 2009 at the UAW Hall in Parma. Your advertisement in the Dance program will show the nearly 400 people attending that night that you believe in our goals and are committed to helping The Big Creek Frontier, Ridgewood YMCA Adventure Princesses program. The program is also handed out and on display at Princess events with an average attendance of 250-300 families. Fund-raiser Dance Program Advertisement Prices: Photo Ready

The Story of the Storyteller… Everyone knows what the Storyteller is… right? After all, he and his daughter(s) are the ones out by the Council Fire telling us a story every campout. But why do we have a Storyteller? Why does it matter? But most importantly, is there really only one Storyteller?

A Short Long History Did you know that the first Indian Princesses group was founded in 1953? Even though the name changed to Adventure Process es in 2003 the concepts, values and traditions reach back fi fty-plus years.

Why Do We Have a Storyteller? The Storyteller is traditionally the keeper of the group’s history. Stories about the group’s adventures, important lessons and ideas were handed down from Storyteller to Storyteller. Please remember that in those times there were no computers, no Internet, no TV and no books. The only way to pass on ideas was to share them in the form o f a story. The same is true for the Adventure Princesses. The stories we share with each other about our adventures helps to keep the Adventure Princess Spirit alive. Have you ever shared a story about Adventure Princess with a fri end? Then you are a Storyteller!

Did You Know… “’Yetta Hey’ is the unofficial greeting of the Frontier. It started when the first Storyteller, Lightning Striker, first spoke it at a campfire many moons ago. From the Navajo, it is an Indian greeting meaning ‘it is very good to see you again’. It is meant as a happy greeting to a close friend. It may be shared by Princesses and Dads alike.” Adventure Princess Handbook, Page 19

What Stories Do You Have to Share? One day this past Fall Rebecca’s teacher overh eard her talking about getting ready for Adventure Princess camp. As they talked her teach er shared with the girls that fact that she was an Indian Princess many years ago. Rebecca has fun taking in her vest to share some stories of her adventures. In turn her teacher shared some of her favorite stories as well. In the sharing of their stories they both continued the tradition of Storyteller. So the question is… what stories would you like to share? Is there some special event or really amazing thing that happened to you or your outpost? Be you a first year or a fourth year I am sure something interesting has happened! Maybe it was the first time your outpost went hunting for another outpost’s banner? Or maybe when your outpost lost their lights at camp? (Did you tell ghost stories that night?) How about the time your cabin was so cold one winter that you went outside to warm up? Or the first time you realized that your outpost became friends instead o f just a group of people? (Dads too) If you would like to share a special story please e-mail ([email protected]) it to me. I plan on sharing some of your stories here in the coming months. Rebecca, Sarah and Bob Gulick, Storyteller

HEY THERE PRINCESS ES !!! My name is Karilyn Dunne. My dad, Mike and I are in the Rainbow Bandits Outpost of the S ky Nation. My princess name is Prairie Rose. I am 7 years old and in the 1st & 2nd grade, I am home-schooled . What I like most about school is math. My favorite TV show is S ponge-Bob Montana. My favorite books are the Little House on the Prairie series. My favorite song is Henry the VIII. M y favorite food is Macaroni and Cheese and I just love ice-cream cake for dessert. Besides Adventure Princesses, I am involved in a bowling league, Irish step dancing, camping with my family and swimming. My favorite Princesses event is Winter Campout and my favorite craft was the making my vest and headdress with my dad.. The most fun thing our outpost did was a bonfire. For a new Adventure Princess event, I think rocket building and launching competition. The funniest thing my dad ever did was when my sister yanked my dad’s pants down just as he started to sing on a cine. He laughed so hard, he lost his grim and he wiped out. He was scraped up and bruised. He had a bloody muddy butt.. The trail of fluffs on my headband is 3 feet. I have 9 patches on my vest and I have 10 beads

Adventure Princess Recycling Fundraiser

Don’t throw out those used printer cartridges and cell phones. Let us recycle them for money!!!

• Inkjet cartridges • Laserjet Toner cartridges • Cell phones Bring them from home, or see if you can get your business’ old toner cartridges. We can get money for most makes and models of printer cartridges and cell phones. If in doubt check out the qualifying list at: http://www.fundingfactory.com/programs/recycling/qualifying_items.aspx

It’s easy!! Just drop them off at any Frontier meeting, Officer meeting, or the Elder’s house we’ll take care of the rest. • • •

All money earned goes directly back into the organization. This is the easiest fundraiser we’ve ever done. This will be going on all year long.

Make some money for your outpost! We are running a special contest through August 30th, 2008 to see which group can secure the most recycled items. The Outpost that collects the most points will win $50.00 cash to use for whatever purpose they see fit!

Here’s how we’ll keep score: Inkjet printer cartridges = 1 point Laser printer cartridges = 2 points Cell phones = 2 points PS: When you s ubmit something, make sure your Outpost name is written on it!
