The information in this leaflet explains what you can expect before, during and after the work and what your responsibilities are. We will work professionally and courteously with as little inconvenience and disruption to you as possible. We will aim to keep you informed about what’s happening and will answer any questions.

WHO WILL COMPLETE THE WORK? We will complete all of the work except the flooring; one of our approved contractor will do this for us. All of our employees wear company branded uniforms and have an identification card. Always ask to see their identification. If you are in any doubt, do not let them in. Call our customer service centre on 0300 555 0500 to confirm who they are.

SURVEYORS VISIT A surveyor and kitchen designer will visit your property to conduct a detailed survey of the kitchen, identifying what needs to be done. This will include looking at your existing appliances and the location of your power sockets. If required, an asbestos check will be carried out in a separate visit by an external contractor. Until this is completed we are unable to carry out the work. The assessment will take up to one hour. Please ask any questions you may have. The surveyor will ask you about: ● Your ideas of the new kitchen layout, colour and finish choices, tiles and handles; ● Any problems you have had in your kitchen i.e. water leaks; ● If you are replacing any appliances with new ones; ● Where your gas and electric metre and stop cock are located;

CHP IMPROVEMENTS TO YOUR KITCHEN

● Where your gas appliance manufacturers manuals are; ● If you have a floor covering that you have fitted yourself (such as ceramic tiles) that you want to keep; ● If you have any plans, such as hospital operations or holidays, which may happen at the same time as the work. You will be provided with a detailed plan and a 3D drawing of your kitchen, along with approximate timescales. Please note: structural cupboards will only be knocked out when kitchen appliances are not able to fit in the space. The surveyor will ask you to sign and confirm the kitchen design and colour choices along with a disclaimer. Please ensure you have someone present who can do this on your behalf if necessary – your guardian, a family member or a carer for example.

We will contact you with a start date. If this date is unsuitable please contact our customer service centre on 0300 555 0500 to arrange a new date.

DURING THE WORK We will need access to your home between 8.00am – 4.00pm. All children (under 18) and pets must be supervised by a responsible adult at all time. We will have to stop working if children under 18 are left unsupervised. Our responsibilities: ● Removing and disposing of all old materials and items including the old cupboards, worktops, tiles and wallpaper;

ELECTRICAL WORKS Please make sure we can get to your fuse box or consumer unit so we can upgrade the electrics in your kitchen. Our electrician will advise you if we need to access any other areas of your property such as your loft. You may see cables being laid out in preparation for your new sockets.

RECONNECTING YOUR POWER AND WATER: We will: ● If it is safe and possible, reconnect your cooker at the end of each day if you have asked us to; ● Reconnect your washing machine over the weekend; ● Reconnect your water at the end of each day and leave you with a temporary sink big enough for washing up;

● Reserve the right not to connect any appliances that we judge to be faulty, dangerous or which may cause damage to the building such as flooding; ● Reconnect your old gas cooker; this is not the same as having it serviced. It is your responsibility to get your gas cooker (and gas boiler) serviced every year.

KEEPING YOUR PROPERTY CLEAN ● We will cover all working areas and pathways through your property with protective plastic; ● At the end of every day we will clean up, take away any rubbish and sweep up as much dust as reasonably possible; ● You may need to sweep or hoover up after the work has finished and dust has settled.

CHP IMPROVEMENTS TO YOUR KITCHEN

AFTER THE WORK HELPFUL TIPS ● Have some bin bags and a dustpan and brush available; ● Make sure your hoover is working and available; ● Do your laundry. Your washing machine may be out of action on some days; ● Plan your food for the next couple of weeks. We will reconnect your cooker and fridge as soon as possible, but you may be without them on some days; ● Get your essentials together, such as medicines, keys and money, and keep them in a safe place.

The work carried out will be monitored to ensure everything is being completed to a good standard and that you are happy with the job. We will ask you to complete a satisfaction survey to give us feedback on how we have done. If you have any concerns or complaints while work is in progress please phone us on 0300 555 0500.

CHP IMPROVEMENTS TO YOUR KITCHEN

FREQUENTLY ANSWERED QUESTIONS Why has my kitchen been identified for this work As part of our Decent Homes Plus Standard, we have identified your kitchen for modernisation and improvement. When will work start? We aim to ring you four weeks' before the work starts. On some occasions it may be less than this. Will I be able to have input into the design of my kitchen? Yes. We aim to accommodate your requirements, but the design must conform to health and safety, building, electrical and gas regulations and ultimately has limitations of cost.

How long will the works take? We aim to complete the kitchen refurbishment in 10 working days. The flooring will be fitted outside of this time. If additional work is required, such as plastering or removing asbestos, it will increase the length of time to complete the work. We will inform you of this immediately. Will there be a choice of finishes and colours? Yes. Please see the choices in the leaflet. During the work, what facilities will be provided? We will do our best to leave the kitchen with running water to a sink and basic cooking facilities at the end of each working day. Can boilers be boxed in? No. Gas safety regulations do not allow this, the pipe work below the boiler or flue may be boxed in.

CHP IMPROVEMENTS TO YOUR KITCHEN

Can I supply my own tiles / taps / sink? No, you cannot. Can I supply a cooker hood? Yes. We will provide an electrical outlet for you to install and connect a cooker hood to. You will need our permission to install the cooker hood and you must be able to provide its electrical certificate. You must inform the surveyor at the beginning of the work. Will an extractor fan be provided? Yes. Where possible we will either renew or replace an extractor fan. This will be in a suitable location for e.g. a wall or window.

When works are complete who is responsible for reconnecting appliances? We will reconnect existing white goods if they have successful passed health and safety testing. We will not connect any new appliances; it is your responsibility to arrange installation of new appliances with the supplier Can you take away old or broken appliances? No. The disposal of white goods is your responsibility.
