Cosplay Stars Focus The Cosplay community and culture is booming, but why do people hold this passion and hobby so close to their heart? Some of our cosplay guests shared with Becca, from League of Extraordinary Cosplayers ( www.leagueofextraordinarycosplayers.com) about why they cosplay and what it means to them. “Cosplay is my own little way of expressing my love for something while learning new skills and making new friends. I do it for the joy of making something out of nothing!” Stacey Rebecca “To me, cosplay originally was about escape. I had a pretty rough time as a teenager and it was a way to be someone else for an entire day and meet awesome new people. Now, it's about continuing my amazing friendships, meeting new friends and proving that no matter what your body size, gender, race etc. EVERYONE can cosplay and cosplay well” SJ Bonnar. “Cosplay has done so much for me. Not just for Artyfakes, but on a much more personal level. cosplay has given me not only the confidence to come out of my geeky closet but to embrace it. Without cosplay I wouldn't be true to myself” Tabitha Lyons. “Cosplay to me is a way to show my inner fangirl and become my favourite heroes, even if only temporarily. Cosplay allows you to don a costume, drop your everyday worries and take on the persona of your favourite characters for a day. This is generally a huge confidence boost, and gives you a common ground with which to meet and interact with new people... something that for the world of ‘geeks’ is often very daunting. I also love the sheer amounts of new skills the hobby has made me learn, things I never would have dreamt of, and I am constantly learning more and more. It's a wonderful hobby and I encourage anyone to try it!” Lisa Marie “Cosplay for me is a huge way of expressing creativity. It builds and develops on new and old skills which together allow me to create costumes of my favourite characters. I adore trying to replicate costume designs along with taking on the persona of the characters I cosplay - to try and make them seem more authentic. Making friends is one of the reasons I love cosplaying, being able to share passions, interests and ideas with everyone really makes cosplay so much fun!” TigerLily Cosplay “When you love something to bits you want to take it to the next level by cosplaying them, another reason for me is because I am a creative I need to channel it into my costumes, plus I get to meet so amazing people it’s a hobby that covers a lot of areas!” AlienQueen “I have always been a very creative person in many aspects of my life, therefore for me cosplay is another form of being creative – you do not only turn into a reflection of the character, but you also design the process of transferring it from 2D to 3D by your choice of material, shapes and colors. And in the end you be the character, your creation!” Cosbabe Hear more from our cosplay guests at the Cosplay Stars Q&A, 2pm Sunday!
