ANY OTHER BUSINESS Codes, recommendations, guidelines and other non-mandatory instruments Note by the Secretariat

SUMMARY Executive summary:

The document contains at annex a list of codes, recommendations, guidelines and other safety- and security-related non-mandatory instruments which MSC 83 requested that the Sub-Committee review.

Action to be taken:

Paragraph 3

Related documents:

FP 52/21, paragraph 2.5; MSC 83/28, paragraphs 22.3 to 22.9; MSC 82/18/1 and MSC 82/INF.12

1 The Sub-Committee, at its fifty-second session, noted that MSC 83, when considering the list of codes, recommendations, guidelines and other safety- and security-related non-mandatory instruments relating to the work of the Committee (MSC 82/18/1 and MSC 82/INF.12, consideration of the documents had been postponed from MSC 82 to MSC 83), referred the detailed consideration of the list to the relevant sub-committees for the identification of those instruments which might be relevant in the context of the collection of information on the implementation of such instruments, also requesting them to provide an input on potential users and requirements of the data scheme to be established (FP 52/21, paragraph 2.5). 2 In this context, MSC 83 noted that the Secretariat is developing a module of the IMO Global Integrated Shipping Information System (GISIS) on safety- and security-related requirements and recommendations applicable to all ships and certain types of ships, on the basis of an ACCESS database containing the information contained in MSC/Circ.815, which was created at the Committee’s request. When completed, the module could also contain information on the status of implementation of non-mandatory instruments to be kept updated by the Member States themselves using direct recording facilities. The module could also record, for each instrument, the national legislation adopted for its implementation, on a voluntary basis – including the ability to upload its full text – the application criteria and the status of the instrument with regard to its amendments.

For reasons of economy, this document is printed in a limited number. Delegates are kindly asked to bring their copies to meetings and not to request additional copies.
