If at any time you need assistance with your Pet Portals Data Transfer installation, please call Customer Support at 1-888-799-8387 ext. 0. To install the Pet Portals Data Transfer on your Avimark system, you must first choose a suitable computer on your network. The data transfer may be installed on either a workstation or server with: 1. Internet access 2. Access to Avimark. You must also have your installation key, which you should have received with your “Confirmation” email. If you do not have it or are re-installing the transfer, please contact Pet Portals customer support. Note: If your practice uses ‘Windows Terminal Services’ or a Citrix server the data transfer must be installed on the server. Before beginning installation, please find the windows ‘Administrator’ login password. This guide has three sections: 1. Installation 2. Configuration 3. Automation (one of these two options) a. Windows Scheduled Tasks b. Kirby Alarm

Installation Download and run ppsetup.exe for Avimark from http://www.vetsecure.com/ppsetup/avimark/

Click on “Download Setup” to begin the download. You may either “Run” or “Download” the installation file. We recommend you download the ‘ppsetup.exe’ file to your desktop and run it from there by double-clicking on it once the download has completed.

The data transfer installation window will start. If you receive an “insufficient privileges” message, please check with your network or computer administrator to find out how to log into Windows using the “administrator” login.

Click “Next” to begin the installation process.

Click “Next” to accept the default installation folder. In very rare cases this default folder needs to be changed. If this location does not work for you, please call Pet Portals Customer Support at 1-888-799-8387 ext. 0

Click “Next” to accept the default program group.

Click Next to begin installing the data transfer program files.

After the base program files have been installed you will be prompted to install the Java Runtime Environment. Please check the “accept” box and click “Next” to begin the installation.

Please choose “Typical” install and click “Next”.

When the Java Runtime Environment has finished installing (This will typically take between 1 and 4 minutes) click “Finish”.

Click “Finish” to complete the Pet Portals Data Transfer and Java Runtime Environment installations.

Note: The Java Runtime Environment installation may suggest that the computer be restarted. This is not immediately necessary, but if the installation is being done on a

workstation (not on the server), we recommend restarting the computer following the next step (Microsoft.net framework installation).

A browser will automatically be launched to the Microsoft.net framework installation page. Please download and install this package, accepting all default settings.

Configuration Register the Avimark Comserver path. Right-click on the “Avimark” icon on your desktop (the one that you would usually double-click to start Avimark). Choose “Properties”. Copy the information in “Start in:” EXACTLY. This is your “Avimark path”, which we will need again later in the configuration. Either write it down or highlight the information and rightclick on it, and choose “copy”.

Click your “Start” button and choose “Run”. In the box that appears type:

regsvr32 “avimark path”\avimarkcomserver.dll where “avimark path” is the information we have already copied. If the installation is on the server & the avimark directory is c:\avimark, then the line would read: regsvr32 c:\avimark\avimarkcomserver.dll If it was on a workstation and the path to the avimark.exe was: \\server1\avimark\avimark.exe, then the line would read: regsvr32 \\server1\avimark\avimarkcomserver.dll

You should receive a ‘succeeded’ confirmation shortly. If you do not, check the spelling and try again. If you still do not, contact Pet Portals Customer Support for assistance. Note: Make sure to read the confirmation box carefully to make sure it says ‘succeeded’. The ‘unsuccessful’ box looks very similar.

Data Transfer Program Configuration Start the Pet Portals Data Transfer by double-clicking on the “Pet Portals Data Transfer” icon on your desktop. Note: If you accidentally double-click the “Pet Portals Setup” icon, that is ok, just cancel it. You may move the “Pet Portals Setup” & “dotnetfx.exe” files to your trash bin at this point if you wish. It is recommended that they be removed from your desktop at some point to prevent possible future confusion. This is not necessary if you chose the “Run” option instead of “Save” during the installation. The Data Transfer program will start (displaying the green ‘splash’ screen) and will load a ‘pass-phrase’ screen.

This will only display the first time the transfer is run (or if the program is being re-installed). Locate the passphrase from your confirmation email. 1st word in the 1st box on the left, 2nd word in the 2nd box, 1 number (in order) in each of the 4 small boxes. Click “OK” You will receive a ‘key identity’ confirmation screen. The “CN=” line may not exactly match your website domain, but should be recognizable as pertaining to your hospital. Click “Yes”. The Pet Portals Data Transfer window will appear. Click on “File”, then “Settings”. The data transfer settings window will appear. Put a check mark in each of the 1st 3 boxes at the top of the settings window (Autostart, Autoquit & Autoupdate). Locate the avimark_path box and fill in the path to the avimark directory on the server (the same path used to register the dll minus the avimarkcomserver.dll, so in the 1st example the avimark_path would be “c:\avimark” (without the quotes) & in the second it would be “\\server1\avimark” (without the quotes). Click “Save”.

Click “File” and “Update”. Close the Pet Portals Data Transfer by clicking on the red ‘X’ in the top right corner.

Restart the program by double-clicking on the “Pet Portals Data Transfer” icon on your desktop. This should start the avimark_export.exe shell command within the transfer box. It should say “Running against 172+ release of Avimark” and then start extracting Clients.

There are 5 csv’s total that are extracted. The last and by far the largest is services. Services tends to be about 10 times the size of the others combined. After the csv’s are extracted, the transmission to VetInsite’s receiver server starts (It is named flounder, in case you see that in the window). The entire process should take between 20 min. and 80 min. depending on the size of the clinic and speed of the server. While the transfer is running, you may proceed to the “Automation” section.
