Gold Coast Learning Centre is pleased to announce that from September 2013, we will be introducing different levels of IELTS to accommodate students from Elementary to advanced levels of English. The courses will be running both FULL and PART‐TIME with experienced examination teachers.

IELTS Preparation
GUARANTEED OUTCOMES Gold Coast Learning Centre guarantees successful outcomes for every student who participates in one of GCLC’s IELTS Courses. We guarantee: To provide the teaching methods, strategies and tools necessary to prepare students for taking the official IELTS test at a realistic stage of their studies; and To focus on achieving results at all levels via pathways to higher levels of IELTS study ; and To enable students to take responsibility for self study and self‐ assessment in a supportive, structured environment so that they can monitor their own progress; and To prepare prospective IELTS candidates by improving all their language skills according to individual needs, regardless of the module & band score required; and That students, in consultation with the Course teacher, will achieve the IELTS overall band score needed in a realistic time frame provided the student: o has a minimum of 80% attendance over the full length of the course; and o completes homework on a daily basis; and o passes the relevant GCLC IELTS Course Test prior to taking the official IELTS test with an overall band score equivalent to the official IELTS test score required; and o attends two‐weekly self‐ assessment sessions with their course teacher. If the required IELTS Test overall band score is not reached at the first attempt, the student may return to the same IELTS Course they were attending pre‐test for a period of one month – free of charge. This period may be extended at the discretion of the Manager, Gold Coast Learning Centre in consultation with the student and course teacher.
IELTS Preparation Course Descriptions LEVEL 1 1. INTRODUCTION TO IELTS Course For Elementary ‐ Pre‐Intermediate students Aim: To introduce prospective candidates to IELTS’ content at an early stage of their studies in order to reach band 4.5 before progressing to GCLC’s IELTS Preparation Course. Minimum Enrolment: 6 weeks Minimum Entry requirements:
Must attain a minimum score of 36/50 in GCLC’s Elementary/Pre‐Intermediate Placement Test OR have completed a minimum of 160 hours (10 weeks) in GCLC’s Level 1 General English Course AND progression to the Introduction to IELTS Course must be supported by the Level 1 teacher. Course Book: IELTS Introduction (Macmillan Education) Course length: 12 units ‐ 20 weeks x 15 hours per week (over 3 days) = 300 hours Teacher’s Supplementary materials: IELTS Introduction Study Skills On‐going assessments:
(a) Students will be responsible for completing IELTS Course Assessment forms (IF 2) in consultation with the teacher throughout the course. Individual students can then compare their results at regular intervals to a list of course outcomes, which will be displayed in each classroom. This process will allow students the responsibility of being more able to assess when they are ready to level up or take their IELTS test. (b) Before progressing to the IELTS Preparation Course, students must pass an Introduction to IELTS Course Practice Test with an overall Band score of 4.5.
Other: An IELTS Course Registration Form (IF 1) should be completed before prospective IELTS students are accepted into their first IELTS Course, regardless of level and the form may be updated as students progress to higher levels. This procedure will help IELTS teachers in assessing the needs of individual students. On‐going assessment records will then be maintained by students in conjunction with the course teacher.
IELTS Preparation LEVEL 2
2. IELTS PREPARATION Course For Intermediate students Aim: To prepare Intermediate level candidates for their official IELTS test in order to reach overall band scores of 5.0 – 6.5 before progressing to GCLC’s IELTS Advanced Course. Minimum Enrolment: 4 weeks Minimum Entry requirements: Must have a minimum score of 36/50 in GCLC’s IELTS Preparation Entrance Test OR have completed a minimum of 160 hours in GCLC’s Level 2 General English Course AND the progression to the IELTS Preparation Course is supported by both the General English Level 2 teacher and the IELTS Preparation Course teacher OR, having been in the Introduction to IELTS Course, have passed an official IELTS Test or an Introduction to IELTS Course Practice Test with an overall band score of 4.5. Course Book: IELTS Foundation 2nd Edition (Macmillan Education) Course length: 12 units = 12 weeks x 20 hours per week = 240 hours Teacher’s Supplementary materials: IELTS Foundation Study Skills (Academic) IELTS Foundation Study Skills (General Module) On‐going assessments: (a) Students will be responsible for completing IELTS Course Assessment forms (IF 2) in consultation with the teacher throughout the course. Individual students can then compare their results at regular intervals to a list of course outcomes, which will be displayed in each classroom. This process will allow students the responsibility of being more able to assess when they are ready to level up or take their IELTS test.
(b) Before progressing to the IELTS Advanced course, students must have passed an official IELTS Test OR an IELTS Preparation Course Practice Test with an overall band score of 6.5. LEVEL 3
IELTS ADVANCED Course For Upper Intermediate – Advanced students Aim: To prepare Upper Intermediate – Advanced level candidates for their official IELTS test in order to overall band scores reach of 7.0 – 9.0. It is envisaged that this course may suit students who need to improve their IELTS score because of recent changes to immigration laws, those who need to pass their IELTS test for work‐related certification or residency purposes, or university students who wish to undertake post‐ graduate studies. Minimum Enrolment: 4 weeks
Minimum Entry requirements: Must have already passed the IELTS test or an IELTS Preparation Course PracticeTest with a minimum band score of 6.5 AND/OR have spent 160 hours in GCLC’s IELTS Preparation Course and the progression to IELTS Advanced must be supported by the IELTS Preparation teacher.
Course Book: IELTS Graduation (Macmillan Education) Course length: 12 units = 20 weeks x 12 hours pw over 3 nights – Evening classes Teacher’s Supplementary materials: IELTS Graduation Study Skills Advanced Academic English with IELTS Practice Online On‐going assessments: Students will be responsible for completing IELTS Course Assessment forms (IF 2) in consultation with the teacher throughout the course. Individual students can then compare their results at regular intervals to a list of course outcomes, which will be displayed in each classroom. This process will allow students the responsibility of being more able to assess when they are ready to take their IELTS test.

IELTS Introduction
LEVELS | IELTS BANDS 3 to 4 AUTHORS | Sam McCarter IELTS Introduction is a brand new course designed specifically for low‐level students wishing to take the IELTS exam. The 12 units aim to train students within an IELTS band of 3‐4 in the skills required. Each unit contains a wide range of IELTS tasks, with exercises aimed at developing listening skills, speaking skills, reading skills as well as providing extensive writing practice; all of the material any beginner level student will need for IELTS success!
