Ice on Whyte Festival Background The Ice on Whyte Festival began in 2003 when a group of local ice carving artists partnered with the Old Strathcona Business Association (OSBA) to present a winter festival that featured ice carving in a family-friendly outdoor setting. Visitors enjoyed the event and the OSBA recognized the need for an annual winter festival in a community known for its summer festivals and continued to support the event. In 2011 the Ice on Whyte Festival Society was formed to ensure the continued success of the festival. The festival has since out-grown two local parks and is now home in End of Steel Park located on Gateway Blvd and Tommy Banks Way. The festival has since increased audience capacity and presented a more visually pleasing event in a visitor friendly environment. Accessibility is greatly improved for physically challenged visitors. Children enjoy the larger play area. Programming has expanded with more family oriented play and interactive artistic elements.

“The Ice on Whyte Festival Society’s mission is to present the Ice on Whyte Festival, Sand on Whyte and Ice on Whyte in Your Town in an interactive format that engages their target audience of families, young professionals and new Canadians in a celebratory experience that encourages the appreciation of and learning about art, culture and local heritage in an outdoor setting.”
